My favorite fantasy book this year has been The Fox and the Dragon. I randomly got it and the neighborhood "take a book, leave a book" library. I love it when the fantasy world is extrapolated from myth and it was great to read an epic-style fantasy that wasn't Eurocentric. Does anyone else have similar recommendations?

It's kind of a weird reader habit but I love books with ghosts!! My favorites are "The Ghost and the Goth," and "The Ghost of Buxton Manor." They kind of face death in a real but gentle way and like you said they end up somewhere completely different from where they started. Let me know if you do try them, that would make my day!

The past couple of months I realized I was by mere chance picking up so many books with grief as it's main focus. While I enjoy hard topics it starts to drag me down if it isn't balanced out, now I'm reading house of salt and sorrows and it's the perfect balance.

My friend and i had a book club that we'd read a non-fiction and fiction book thar we'd pair tpgether based on subject/theme and Poppy War was one of those books. The non-fiction was The Rape of Nanking by Iris Chang and I read it first, so oof did certain parts of TPW hit hard when we got to them. There were also a couple of places that didn't hit quite as hard bc as gruesome as what happened in the novel was, Kuang's description was tame compared to the actual, real life descriptions by witnesses. Highly recommend if you're interested in history or dissecting US imperialism at all.

Sutanto, The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks, and I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy . Currently I’m reading 📖 This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El Mohtar and Max Gladstone btw I’m so happy you read The Poppy War I’m definitely excited to read it too.

My fave read this year is "welcome to the hyunam-dong bookshop" by Hwang Bo-reum. It's not a heavily plotted book but sure is calm and relaxing. People who enjoys slice of life story without heavy drama will love this.

I'm currently reading yellowface by r.f. kuang it's my first book by her because it was the least intimidating one and i am really really enjoying it, I also wanna read the poppy war but i think I'll read it side by side with some cute romance to balance things out.
some faves from me are the Semi-Definitve List of Worst Nightmares by the same author as house of hollow (which i haven't read so i can't say if they're similar), Forget Me Not by Alyson Derrick and Firekeeper's Daughter by Angeline Boulley.
You keep me company while I'm stressing out over writing (i try to get back into my story and the habit of writing its not easy) and you're definitely one of my favourite youtubers and i think the first one that i started watching.
ps I am also not always great at keeping up with series my reason always is "I don't wanna get burnt out from the story and get a reading slump"

These are not new, but probably will be new to you.
If you're interested in something challenging and weird and wonderful--take a look at Kathy Acker. She was punk in literature. A post-modernist. Incomparable.
I was fortunate enough to meet her and talk to her a couple of times and she was powerful and gentle, savage and cultured.
My first book of hers was Blood and Guts in High School, but maybe Pussy, Queen of the Pirates or her re-take of Great Expectations would be better.
