Cool, thank you for a great reaction. You can hear with this song how Rush updated their sound in the 1980's to emphasize song-writing skills and to bring more emotion and feeling to the music. I love 80's Rush! So many great songs.
This is one of the most haunting songs they've recorded. Even my late partner, who was more into classical music and not a rock fan, very much liked this.
It's not just WWII, it'a still happening today in China with the Uighurs. And just like 80 years ago, no one is doing anything about it. History truly does repeat itself...
Such an interesting choice of guitar tone by Alex, which somehow fits the subject matter of the song portraying the danger, uncertainty, fragility of the situation described in a very soulful way...
Very well said. Alex’s adaptation of his sound on this album was remarkable. Won Guitar Player Magazine’s Rock Guitarist of the Year in the same year a certain EVH had a big record because Alex was so innovative and creative.
This is an interesting WWII documentary: Night Will Fall (2014). Here's the description: Researchers discover film footage from World War II that turns out to be a lost documentary shot by Alfred Hitchcock and Sidney Bernstein in 1945 about German concentration camps. It would make a very interesting reaction. Even if you don't do movie reactions, I recommend watching it.
tbere's a couple of UA-cam videos of Geddy Lee being interviewed about his parents being in the concentration camps. Dan Rather interviewed in Geddy's home.
Also I would recommend "Rush-Time Stand Still". It a documentary from their last tour, from the band, crew, and fan's perspective. I'd known about it, but had been avoiding it. I watched it today for the first time. Im a 51 year old man. Fought in 4 separate wars ( Iraq 1 and 2, Bosnia, Afghanistan) and i just spent 90 minutes pretty-much sobbing. Seeing Neil talk on screen was...a lot. The band that is/was the soundtrack of my life, just...over. sad.
if we forget who and what we were we will never know who the hell we are

I believe Neil wrote this based on Geddy's parents experience in prison camp during the holocaust
coRRect 🙁
Some of Neil's deepest lyrics. Great review.😎👍RUSH on...

My Uncle was born in Germany, emigrated to US as a child. He was a B 24 bomber pilot and bombed the shit out of Germany and France.

Great song, very sad.
You're to be commended for your interest in history but you'll have to dig deeper than Netflix and mainstream media to find the whole story.
