  • Zephyr was a blues-based hard rock band formed in 1969 in Boulder, Colorado by guitarist Tommy Bolin, keyboardist John Faris, David Givens on bass guitar, Robbie Chamberlin on drums and Candy Givens on vocals. Although the charismatic performances by Candy Givens were originally the focal point for the band, it was the flashy guitar work of Tommy Bolin that the band is best remembered for.[1] After Bolin left, he was replaced by Jock Bartley, and the band recorded the album Sunset Ride, their second for Warner Brothers Records. The album is still in print and is much loved by a small but loyal following. On Sunset Ride, Candy Givens displayed her gifts as a singer, composer, and harmonica player. The album was produced by David Givens who also authored the majority of the tunes. As a result of his stint with Zephyr, Bartley went on to a successful career with Gram Parsons and Firefall and drummer, Michael Wooten, went on to play for several years with Carole King. Various versions of Zephyr continued to play in Colorado until Candy's death in 1984.

Drive that bass! (Memories...Candy & I, in the Bayou! Lmao! Muddy, murky ass water, couldn't see your hand beneath the surface. We wanted to go explore that island!!! We get about halfway across...them Cajuns were hollering! "Wot chu duuuinnnn?" Candy & I looked at each other, we heard "ALLIGATORS!!" "GATORS!!!" We did an about face...and swam fast as Olympic swimmers back to the shore!! Odd, we didn't converse much that evening...? We just looked at one another...and Knew, 'chit~man we could get in alot of trouble together'...hahaha! But...we actually never got into very much trouble. We had Bubba G. to keep us aligned. David Givens has the best Eagle hug throughout the land! I miss those days alot...She could honkin' Wail! Much love all
I'm gonna ride this out...the time in New Orleans! Candy & Bubba G. went in a shop to get us Shrimp Po'Boys. Couldn't roll the windows up in that old beige van, the heat was excruciating. So I stayed in the van w/equipment. Back door OPEN! Finally they came back...Candy had a bucket of raw oysters. Before I knew it...'O you have to try these! She slipped...one into my mouth! In that HEAT, plus slimy cayenne - STUCK!!! In my throat for hours...!! Even the most astute gagging mechanisms that I know of, I couldn't get that SOB to budge. No amount of water, nothing would work...I think we could have been laughing too hard or something! We became 'kids' easily together. Good friends, priceless. They live in our memory banks. Mine is a large vault!!! Hahaha! Much love y'all! XOXOcrow
