I do not think I have ever made a hardware comparison based on how quick a web app refreshes a pic on a screen. Yes, you convinced me to pay $2950 in AUS Dollars on a 2022 MacBook Air. I did the same your export test with 14" Macbook Pro M2 Pro 10-core CPU 16-core GPU, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD. Another great video! Unlike other channels, you guys give a thorough comparison of the pros/cons, and internals rather than just listing the new specs. Often new specs (on paper) aren’t necessarily better in action.

IMO for completeness and fairness you could/should have shown the battery info data from both devices (for example using Coconutbattery or other tools). Cheers!
Yeah that was my concern too. The 14in M1 Pro is likely going to have some battery wear and tear that the M2 Pro model just won't have and that will effect battery life
Thank you for the detailed review. A small suggestion: It would be helpful to start off the video with the configurations for the macs you're comparing. Which CPU + GPU + SSD + RAM model you're comparing.
That was an impressive review. I decided to go with M1 Pro 1TB 10 core cpu 16 gpu instead of basic 512GB M2 pro. The price is literally the same in my region for these two models

After watching your review I will be pursuing the M1 Pro. I cannot justify the significant price increase for the M2 Pro. I feel the M1 will be more than sufficient for him.
I love how much you go in to detail with your reviews, I have the 14 M1 Pro and I don't see enough differences to consider the upgrade. Instead the slower SSD makes me prefer my M1. Great video guys!
Hello, I like how you do the comparison. That helps a lot. But I think If testing CPU & GPU together. the result of M2pro shouldn't be that bad. Also, for the writing & reading speed, it also depends on whether the disk for transferring is SSD or not. If not, it shouldn't have much difference comparing to M1pro & M2pro chip. especially the SSD disk is much more expensive than the regular one tho. But yea, Apple is obviously saving the cost to make more profit, and not surprised with this, since it's Tim Cook... and it's also very possible that they're even have quality difference with the same size of 512GB SSD on different levels of the new MacBook Pro. who knows? Based on the global situation, the inflation rate, USA interest rate, and so on, people in USA are lucky, they still get the same price, but not for people from other countries. and if their sales drop this year due to the price increased globally, won't be a surprise, either. and even in the future, and of course, overall, they shouldn't increase the price for other countries at all, especially when they're basically just upgrade the chip for M2Pro which probably not even much better than M1pro since they're both 5nm from TSMC even M2pro is the 2nd generation which mostly just help to improve the battery life. But it seems like Apple designs the M2Pro model to put GPU on the priority for workload. So, for people who only use it for normal tasks, shouldn’t have too much benefit from that. As for the 16GB memory that’s divided by 4GBx4pcs like on those articles say, I didn’t see you show it on the video, is it possible that you can also make a video of that to prove if it’s true ? As for the question, if people should buy the new MacBook Pro with M2pro chip or not. I think, the price, the speed are not the only main reasons for me tho. I’d also put the quality control into consideration. Especially with the global economic situation like I’d mentioned above, also the labour cost, the shipping cost are needed to be considered as well. I really doubt that Tim Cook would really put the quality first, and profit next. This is not the first time that Apple keep asking suppliers to lower the price. And TSMC is def going to increase the price, that’s for sure. And for the long-term, it’s very possible that they will lose a lot of profit for just manufacturing in USA. Like there’s a saying, There's no such thing as a free lunch. When Apple make suppliers to lower the price, of course, they eventually will agree cause they don’t wanna lose such a big client. But then, the quality will definitely be an issue. And I think, we already seen that for the products that are released in 2022. I personally would purchase at least 4units for the exact same models for comparison. For the M1pro MacBook Pro, I noticed that, for the keyboard, the F key, has an issue, that 3 of the models are more loose. Only one of them are tight. And you can hear the difference with the sound when you type. And for the coating, if you comparing with previous old models, they already change the way they do the coating. And you can see the details when you do the comparison in the sunlight, and indoor, then with the flashlight. I think it’s possible because of the environmental friendly reason. Same as the glasses nowadays. If you buy a metal like aluminum glasses, the frame will easily have Color-off issue if contacted with the skin or sweat. Cause they’re now only do 2 layers of coating instead of 4 layers like in the past. and since Apple’s other iPad and MacBook Air have coating scratch off issue like on those news, it’s possible due to the coating layers. Anyway, Tim Cook, once again, don’t forget where he’s coming from. Hahaha he def put profit for priority , that’s for sure. So, I suggest people who really wanna buy Apple’s products, not just only comparing the tech, but also better to put the quality for long-term into consideration as well. Thank you for reading my such long long comment. Have a nice day !
I would love to see two things: if this slow ssd problem comes only with the base models or if the ssd are different. Also, would love to see every test that can be made with mac mini m1 pro. Even compare it with the macbook. I’m very curious to say the least. Love your hard all the way geeky tests!
So glad I got the M1 Pro 14 inch on sale. New. Sealed packed. For the price of similarly spec-ed M2 Air. When the test started and we went to speakers first, I thought okay, M2 will have marginally better speakers but boom! I was confused if the left one was newer cause the M1 sounded clearly better. Then the most important part. The SSDs. I knew I was anyway gonna buy the base model, whether M1 or M2 so it doesn't matter if SSD speeds match on a 2TB config. It matters for me on the base model and specially with 16GB RAM, I am way better of for my work flow which is RAM heavy with these double speed SSDs on base model. And CPU and GPU differences were insignificant considering what I have is already extreme. Battery life, the difference I feel is even lower than what we got in the test as M1 macbook is older and battery health decreases even though not much but at least 2-3% in a year so _M1 Pro is still the _*_beast_*
I gotta say, you guys do such a great job. you do the tests that I am interested in not the standard benchmarking that are whatevs. You guys also present this in a way that shows that your open to different tech like Apple, Samsung, etc. and don't come off as an Apple fanboy. I love all tech... and whatever does the tasks that are near and dear to my heart better is usually what I go with, I don't care who makes it. So again, great job fellas!
So, if the base m2 pro is slightly faster than the 8-core m1 pro in video rendering and export, and the 8-core m1 pro has the same 10-core result (as demonstrated by your channel in another video) it means that the base m2 pro is slightly faster (but still faster) than the full version 10-core m1 pro. Apart from this, this speakers demonstration is useless at all. The difference between the two MacBook is the bass, much better in the latest model, but with a test like this you can't highlight it and it only seems that it sounds lower. You should also know that it is misleading
Great video. I've been hooked on your videos for 2 weeks because I realized Macbook Pros are the best performance per dollar I can get with professional portable computing. I'm looking to buy one because my Dell XPS isn't powerful enough for my Revopoint 3D scanner. I'm also done with the overheating and TDP requirements from intel. I need a laptop so I can 3D scan car interiors to prototype emotionally intelligent AI integration inside of cars.
Needed to watch this… been looking at the M2’s since they dropped! This has just proven to me that there’s not a significant change since the M1… especially for what I’d be using it for. Just got to save my money now for a new laptop 🙏🏻 thank you for the extensive review guys!
I really appreciate your comparison videos. As a person who doesn’t understand a lot about tech, your videos are really helpful and I can actually understand what you’re talking about. ❤
I snagged a 14” M1 a 4 or so months ago from Costco at a $350-ish discount and couldn’t be happier. I run Creative Suite primarily and it screams compared to my 2019 27” iMac with 40 GB of RAM.
I just bought a 14 M2 Pro, not by choice but because I broke the screen on my 14 M1 Pro. I have noticed the M2 Pro runs way hotter than the M1 Pro. The M1 Pro never had any temperature, the M2 Pro heats up even when doing basic Xcode builds now. The battery life is also considerably worse when running Xcode builds, perhaps 20-30% worse or more. I was wondering if I was just crazy but this video explains a lot. I will certainly be returning this computer and looking into repairing the screen on my M1 pro instead. Wow.
Wow, what a comprehensive and informative comparison video! Max Tech has done an incredible job of breaking down the differences between the M1 Pro and M2 Pro 14” MacBook Pro models, and providing viewers with all the information they need to make an informed decision when purchasing one of these powerful machines. From the detailed benchmarks and performance tests, to the analysis of key features like battery life, thermals, and display quality, Max Tech has left no stone unturned in this ultimate comparison. As someone who is in the market for a new MacBook Pro, this video has been incredibly helpful in understanding the differences between these two models and which one might be the best fit for my needs. Thank you Max Tech for this amazing content - keep up the great work!
Great to see the blender test in there. Tear down is always good to see. Such a shame about the ssd in the m2. I wonder if that is the same across all lineups of the m2 range, or specific to MBP.
So it is higher temperatures/better performance/longer battery life vs lower temperatures/slower performance/shorter battery life. Thank you for this detailed and very useful comparison.
It's kind of hard to make a statement regarding to the speakers quality, there are many factors that may affect the sound, including the acoustics of the room. A more objective way to measuring it would be making a frequency test to see which frequencies get coloured and which ones get cut in comparison with the original track frequencies.
Wow! This video makes the decision between M1 and M2 much easier. Love the comprehensive analysis and in-depth testing with standard benchmarks. Thank you.
When I watched some other channels for some reviews, I stopped halfway through and said, "I'll wait for Max Tech's in-depth review". Truly you guys go deep in reviews with good-quality number comparisons.

I love your channel and after this video I am 100% sold on my next mac being (drum roll): M1Pro 16 GB RAM and !TB Hard Drive. I'm sure I'll get lots of use out of it. What do I use now? A base M1 Pro with the Touch Bar, 8GB RAM 256GB Hard Drive. I've beaten the crap out of the M1 MacBook Pro and it's been a solid performer, so I can't wait to buy my next one in February 2023. Great job on this video!😃
I loved the review. Seems that you have found that the M1 is still holding strong against the M2. My concern us the speed of the storage and hope Apple can work through any speed constraints. The tear down was surprising with the thermals, but at the end of the day no major impact. I bought the MacBook Air M1 when it came out and have been very pleased, but I am feeling constrains because I need more than 16gb memory for my VM’s and video rendering. I am going to upgrade to the MacBook Pro as soon as I can save the money for it. Again, thanks for the thorough review. Very helpful.
I always watch your reviews because you guys talk about so many details about the product and honestly tell the difference which helps the consumer to choose wisely. keep it up!
Thanks for all of these mac videos! As a student who is about to enter university, I really needed something liike this so that I could make the best decision on what computer to pick up and take with me for the upcoming years~
First, I love your thorough comparisons. They were instrumental in my choosing which Air, and then which Pro I should buy. Ultimately, I chose to buy an upgraded version of the M2 MacBook Air, and then a brand new M1 Pro, also upgraded, foregoing the M2 Pro MacBook Pro .I was able to find good deals on both. I wanted to let you know, though, that your math is off, on all your comparisons. I thought it sounded funky, so I did the math, myself, and you consistently inflated the difference, between the machines, by 3 or 4 %. The real numbers were exactly what Apple stated. If you need a math lesson, on how to figure out percentages, hit this gal up!
I think the whole ssd issue is they sometimes times try to hard to make these machines more efficient with less and keep costs down but in the end don't fix something that is not broken in this case more is more not to do more with less poor move in their part
Thanks for your video! Please add an overview of the display cable design ? Is there a difference between Apple silicone models and Intel models? As we all remember, Apple began to use an unreliable display cable that was integrated into the display, which resulted in a very expensive repair, the cable ran along the top of the loop and can be seen from the back if you open the laptop, crumbs and dust fell into this slot on the cable from the film and he was torn after half a year and even earlier. Repair cost a full replacement of the display, which is very expensive. For this it is important. Sorry for my English.🙂
Just to report my MacBook Pro M2 Pro with 3.47MHz 32Gb RAM and 2 TB memore scored higher in all tests compared to your equivalent 14inch M2 in your tests. For example, my Cinebench R23 Score on multicore was 14371 never exceeded 57C, Single core was 1582 never exceeding 47C. Not sure why the 16 inch model did better than the 14inch model, could just be variation in CPU bins.
Great video. Thank you for the comparison and teardown and testing. So since the chip seems to be overclocked and Apple used a heatsink that is half the size of the one used in the M1 Pro which is why there were spikes of over 104 degrees wont these extreme temperatures be detrimental to the chipset decreasing the life span of the processor?

I've been waiting for this review for days, especially for SSD speed tests. Thank you for these extensive tests and your hard work :)
Insane level of effort put into these episodes. It’s a pleasure to watch your videos. Great work guys!
It seems that Adobe hasn’t optimized their software for M2 yet. Unless slow swap memory is the culprit. 🤔
Man… this is why I love your channel! You go into details no one else does! Everyone else just cares about pushing out their videos the earliest.
Would have been nice to see performance comparisons between two equivalent machines in terms of cpu and GPU cores.
Second this, hopefully they can follow up with something very similar, difference then may by minute
Glad to see a comparison. I’m thinking of buying a M1 now that they’re a bit cheaper.
Just got base model m1 pro refurb and it rips. Very happy with my purchase.
Definitely a great idea
Would be nice to see the benchmarks run on the M1 and M2 at the same clock speeds. See how much of an improvement to M2 actually is.
Why are such useless comments? Are you a rating cheat bot?
@@yuriiabc2029 Fuck are you taking about dude? What are you like the bot police? Just an honest comment.
You should also know that it is misleading
we need a m2 pro 14 inch m2 pro 10c vs 12c pro temperature and battery life test!
Let’s give a moment of appreciation for the amount of time and work that goes into these very detailed videos.❤
Cringe comment
@@urigeheadmot1196 thank you
Great video.
Exactly save your money and get that M1, no use paying Apple luxury tax for a device that offers such small upgrade.
In my country M1 Pro is 6% cheaper than m2 pro
Which one should I buy
M1 Pro no question
I'm starting to consider replacing my old (but gold) MacBook Pro 2015, this new M2 Pro seems to be a pretty good deal
I need to upgrade my old one mid14 MacBook pro 15” i7 2.8 , 16GB and 1TB ssd to New one… thanks for your video! It helps me to decide.
Wow.
M1 Pro is literally better it’s crazy 😂
The difference of sound is great especially when watching the review on iphone with defective speaker.
Best channel for someone looking to buy a mac.
Always good to know that i can come here to get a detailed analysis.
So it was a good decision to wait. I recently got the M1 Air instead of a Macbook M1 Pro so the wait will be better for the 3nm generation.
I consider the base M1 Pro with its current lower price is still a better buy, despite not being AS fast the M2 Pro.
It's kind of hard to make a statement regarding to the speakers quality, there are many factors that may affect the sound, including the acoustics of the room. A more objective way to measuring it would be making a frequency test to see which frequencies get coloured and which ones get cut in comparison with the original track frequencies.
Fantastic review filled with detailed information that helps find the right product for every use case - keep it up!
The only one you need to watch if you want to see real tests and assessments
clearly the best Mac site 🤘
Thanks guys
like how you guys go into details that others don't.
Wow! This video makes the decision between M1 and M2 much easier. Love the comprehensive analysis and in-depth testing with standard benchmarks. Thank you.
Atrocious move by Apple, to put a slower SSD into such an expensive machine and lower the quality of the speakers.
Perfect testing from a perfect channel 😍😊
Thanks for such a detailed comparison! The comparison charts reminded me of the comparison charts in Dave2Ds video!
When I watched some other channels for some reviews, I stopped halfway through and said, "I'll wait for Max Tech's in-depth review". Truly you guys go deep in reviews with good-quality number comparisons.
my 2015 Mac book pro died … just got a m2 Tb ssd 12 core… I’m blown outta the water with how fast it is, but I’m used to ancient technology lol
Great comparison video, Max! Thanks for all the time you put into this!
I love the details of this video. Planning to get an M1 Pro soon. I’m sticking with that choice
I upgraded from 2015 MBP 15" to latest MBP 16" M2.. so happy 🙂
Your in depth reviews are out of this world
Just purchased the M1 with 400 discount from Best Buy. Thanks for the comparison!
I am confident that I made the right choice in going with the M1-Pro, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to review your thorough and insightful comparison. I appreciate your commitment to providing the most detailed and accurate information, and I am so glad I followed your advice. Many thanks.
Same!!! I got mine for $1,549 in the refurb store. Hopefully people are aware of that so they can save some $$.
@@jeffvalentine9947 they are as low as $1390 now with 512gb storage
@@JackCarter911 no makes no sense
I appreciate how you opened up the machines and compared the internals
here ever since max yuryev channel! love to see you grow a lot!
Think that the speakers change will make the new Mac's speakers last for longer in higher volumes
I got a new 14" M1 Pro 16GB 1 TB SSD because of your video, thanks a lot 😁
I love your channel and after this video I am 100% sold on my next mac being (drum roll): M1Pro 16 GB RAM and !TB Hard Drive. I'm sure I'll get lots of use out of it. What do I use now? A base M1 Pro with the Touch Bar, 8GB RAM 256GB Hard Drive. I've beaten the crap out of the M1 MacBook Pro and it's been a solid performer, so I can't wait to buy my next one in February 2023. Great job on this video!😃
Great video. Still happy with my 3 months old M1 MacBook Air (base model).
Please do a video where u improve the thermals using heat pads and liquid metal if possible
Please add Davinci Resplve tests while a lot of pro's use this software and it could work differently than Final Cut performance wise
I don't know how you find the time to make so many in depth videos, but keep it up!
Oh, cool! I always wanted to have one of macs with modern arm soc's. Fingers crossed!
I always watch your reviews because you guys talk about so many details about the product and honestly tell the difference which helps the consumer to choose wisely. keep it up!
I'm looking into upgrading my old macbook pro, your reviews greatly help with my decision making process!
I’m waiting for your review just because i want to change my old 10 years old macbook air into this M2 Pro chip machine!
How good is this, I need an update from my 2012 Retina MBP 15inch. The newest 14inch would be absolute perfection!!
Your videos are very helpful for deciding on the purchases of new Apple macs. Thank You
Thanks for all of these mac videos! As a student who is about to enter university, I really needed something liike this so that I could make the best decision on what computer to pick up and take with me for the upcoming years~
watching this video with mbp15" 2013. 10 yrs old laptop. Still good for daily use. Need to replace the batery, but the rest is all good.
I find it really cool that you also give us a look under the hood of the devices
😂😂😂 good catch + dedication to do your own math
Thanks so much guys, really looking forward to getting to the bottom of the NAND configurations with the SSDs. Great insights so far!
Great video. Thank you for the comparison and teardown and testing. So since the chip seems to be overclocked and Apple used a heatsink that is half the size of the one used in the M1 Pro which is why there were spikes of over 104 degrees wont these extreme temperatures be detrimental to the chipset decreasing the life span of the processor?
you provide the most extensive coverage on the new Macs
