The M1 Pro 14-inch Macbook pro can be found on Apple's Certified Refurbished Store for $1539, or 1729€ in France, considering that this is the closest to brand new that used products can be, it's a significant discount and is worth considering over the M2 Pro. After watching this video, I picked up a new 14 inch m1 base model from Best Buy for $1600. I had $275 in Best Buy gift cards and along with being a total tech member, it came with apple care plus for free. ~$1483 after taxes (with apple care plus) is not too bad. I am upgrading from a 2016 15 inch MacBook Pro (I have had the butterfly keyboard repaired 5x times; I got it back from the apple repair center today). Thanks again for the video!

I would consider it, but I can’t justify it. The slower SSD + I don’t need the extra efficiency cores. Anyways, what are your thoughts?
Hi, thanks for providing this user case (and my apologies for reacting so late). Both MBs would be fine for you as the technical differences are limited, but there are two things to consider. Cost saving of course (I expect up to 400 usd difference), but the longevity of the M2 will be somewhat longer.
LOVE these comparisons! I just ordered a M1 Pro 14 inch from Apples refurbished website. Good savings! One correction: These are taller than 16:10 displays. They are basically 14:9 displays. 16:10 is all the older MacBooks.
I chose a brand new completely unbinned M1 Pro MacBook Pro, with16gb Ram, and 1 TB SSD, for $1999.00, so saved $500.00. With the 10 core CPU, and 16 core GPU, it is lightning fast, compared to any intel machine I've ever had. You should have mentioned the larger heat sink and the louder, better speakers in the M1, than the M2. Otherwise, a great comparison video, Dion. Shame on Apple, for their cost cutting measures, that downgrade, rather than upgrade, they're awesome new silicon laptops.
My Goodness everyone keep repeating what THE ONLY guy on the Internet (max yurev reviews) said regarding the speakers and the heatsink which are TWO idiotically mistakes. I bought a week ago MacBook m1 pro 16”. do you think it is appropriate to come back and get a new model with m2 chip? in the country where I live the two have a difference of $326.85
I recently bought a 14 m2 pro base (512gb ssd), found it new for €500 less than Apple site (a real bargain!). I am extremely shocked by the performance of this Macbook, higher than I thought!! I deal almost exclusively of advanced video editing, with Final Cut and Da Vinci Resolve (4k, 6k, raw, 10 bit..), the fluidity of workflow and the export and rendering speed is truly incredible. The SSDs are not 2 vs. 1 module. The M1 Pro uses 4 128GB ones while the new one uses 2 256GB modules. That's why the new one with 512GB is about the same speed as the MBA with 512GB. If it only had one 512GB module, it would be slower than that. Hi Dion, would really appreciate your feedback 😊 I’m beginner in coding what would be best for me M1 Pro base model with 16gb/512gb or M2 pro base model with 1TB ssd? Coding being cpu intensive which one will I benefit from? Will M2 thermal throttle for me? Or is MacBook air m1 with 16gb ram with 512gb sufficient? Cheers
Great and very useful video! So, in every test the M2 pro is definitely faster. The slower ssd doesn't negatively affect anything, not even startup & login and All App launch (unbelievable!). In other tests they even showed how file transfer from external to internal SSD is equal or even faster in the m2 pro. Especially now that several months have passed since its release and it can also be found new for €400-500 less than Apple site, why should you still buy the m1 pro?
I am in the look for an upgrade to my very old Intel Macbook pro. I've been looking at both the PRO and MAX of the new M2 14", I may go for the M2 PRO, and wonder if I should go for 32 GB RAM or 2 TB SSD ? I see you have chosen 2TB SSD on the M2. WIll doing mainly Lightroom classic and some film editing. Worry that 16 GB RAM will not be enough?
@whiskeyhandsome Great video. I still have a 2017 MBPro (Intel cpu) and on the fence whether I go M1 or M2,.. I dont need the performance (I dont push my machine that hard) but I do like future-proofing as I do tend to keep my Laptops for 5+ years and who knows what software demands will be then.
@shamirqushairi I'm rarely impressed by Apple's hardware but their in-house silicone will always have my jaws dropped. It's crazy to think that they're always a generation or two ahead of the competition. 🤯
The M1 Pro is good enough for 99.8% of people, there is absolutely no reason to get the M2 unless you need those precious few seconds when it comes to export times lol
@konradappel I just bought the base 14” MacBook Pro with m2 Pro. It’s just great. Its much better for blender than the M1 Pro even the M1 Max. And if you start to try to get the best version with faster ssd, full m2 pro and a bigger ram size you pay 1000€ extra. But I think the base model is just great value
2000$ for 16" m1 pro 16/512 vs 2500$ for 16" m2 pro 16/512 Both are basic models, and i think m1rpo rly best buy, saving 500$ and fast ssd BTW, 16" m2 pro 16/1TB price is 2800$, for same price i found 16" m1 max 64/1TB - again older macbook wins
Just bought the 12-core, 16gb, 1tb version of the M2. Xcode, games, and light photo/video/graphical work is what I'm trying to future proof for. I'm returning my M1 Pro 10-core, same specs otherwise. Refurbished, the difference comes out to less than $150. Can anyone tell me what they think of my choice? I can still go back lol. I'm mainly afraid of the 1tb ssd being significantly slower than higher storage option ssds and 16gb of ram not being enough.
@nnnphu I really appreciate your comparison of these 2 machines. I'm planning to buy a mac for work in the future, however apple's decision to slow down SSD speed makes me extremely hesitant. Do I need a machine that is a bit cheaper but still powerful, or buy M2 pro for extra performance in the long run? Damn you apple ☠️ . Good video. Keep up the good work 😉
Hi, I will be the last one to defend the Apple price policy, but as far as I know the taxes in India for imported tech products are insane, and thus contributing to a large extent to the very high prices in your country
@anglmn1.lm What do you think about the 2023 M2 Pro Max 30 core GPU vs M2 Pro 19 core GPU 14 - inch? Also I am thinking of getting the M2 Pro but should I upgrade the GPU from 19 core to 30 core? Right now have the Lenovo 920 so I think anything would be an upgrade. @lamiafarjana Thanks for the comparison video. Been waiting for this. Yes it's sad that they went for single SSD for M2 Pro base model.. making the buyer to choose higher spec SSD forcibly if they want higher SSD speed. So that's a dealbreaker for some who are on a budget
@katadoto (fingers crossed lol) . I’ve been fortunate enough to own the M1 Pro 14 inch MacBook Pro thanks to the company I work for buying it for my use and it has been the best computer I’ve ever owned. The screen, speakers, battery, performance on battery have all been stellar. I haven’t felt the need for an upgrade since this machine destroys the video editing I currently do so definitely buying it at that discount refurbished is still the best deal for content creators
Your analysis claiming the allegedly significant superiority of the 14-inch Macbook Pro M2 over the 14-inch Macbook Pro M1 is completely contradicted by another presenter. I therefore invites everyone to see the reverse demonstration which shows that the purchase of the 14-inch Macbook Pro with M1 chip is much more recommendable than its new M2 version. The same youtuber have recently released a video in which he admitted he was wrong about m2 pro 14 base and recommends its purchase. WIll doing mainly Lightroom classic and some film editing. Worry that 16 GB RAM will not be enough?
If you edit huge projects, then going for 32 GB of RAM is better. Otherwise the 16 GB version is good for the majority of demanding tasks.
I agree with Gehad
@@gehadsheha4775 Thanks Gehad, then might opt for the 16 GB RAM over 2TB SSD :-)
Just got a refurbished 14 inch M1 Pro for 1539 USD straight from Apple.
Good price!
@stefjumper
Thank you so much for this video, I have searched for one about a direct comparison of both laptops for sooooo long :)!
@shamirqushairi
I'm rarely impressed by Apple's hardware but their in-house silicone will always have my jaws dropped.
It's crazy to think that they're always a generation or two ahead of the competition. 🤯
The M1 Pro is good enough for 99.8% of people, there is absolutely no reason to get the M2 unless you need those precious few seconds when it comes to export times lol
@endpThnk you so much for this video, all the way from South Africa!!
Thanks, greetings to South Africa, a country I would love to visit
@@DionMedia that be so awesome!! And be great to show you around!

so not base models then they are upgraded
correct

Hi Victor, thanks for pointing out! Yes, terrible there are scammers around. I report them and wished that UA-cam did more about them

why not have a equal 1tb comparison
Hi Jigger, it is about the comparison of both devices. The storage is just one element

m1 pro 16GB 512GB is now $1550 in my country. sadly its hdmi is 2.0
that is a lot!
How is the Audio quality?
@@narendrakaushik27 Its just amazing.
The problem is the base 14 inch hard drive speed is half of that of m1 pro
2000$ for 16" m1 pro 16/512 vs 2500$ for 16" m2 pro 16/512
Both are basic models, and i think m1rpo rly best buy, saving 500$ and fast ssd
BTW, 16" m2 pro 16/1TB price is 2800$, for same price i found 16" m1 max 64/1TB - again older macbook wins
Thanks for sharing your insight!
My 2012 rMBP last 9 years. These machines can definitely last longer than that.
Yes, they can, but at a certain moment less and less functions are being supported
@joshjeebles
I would go with the m2 pro but for the right price it would be silly to pass on the m1
Brother, I am giving you a subscribe for your cool review video!!!
Hi, appreciate that! Glad you liked the video
Used to windows
Not a big fan of macbooks but just look at those 🤩🤩🤩
Ah, you changed your mind :)
These are MeanMachines period.🔥
@nnnphu I really appreciate your comparison of these 2 machines. I'm planning to buy a mac for work in the future, however apple's decision to slow down SSD speed makes me extremely hesitant. Do I need a machine that is a bit cheaper but still powerful, or buy M2 pro for extra performance in the long run? Damn you apple ☠️ . Good video. Keep up the good work 😉
Aw you compared base models :(
+ extend storage

M1 pro for me
Apple is charging a lot in india. Bring your price down apple!!
Don't get me wrong Lenovo 920 has been a great computer for me but for me it's time to get all my devices on the same page by going all Apple.
Hi Lori, I do not know enough of the Lenovo 920 to give a good reaction
Did you say you got a MacBook Pro M1 14" on sale for $800
@lopezkiketbe
Great video! Definitely helped me decide on which MacBook to get.. Going for the refurbished MacBook Pro M1. Gotta save some money during hard times😕 Thanks for this video 💯💪👍
Thanks!
Valid point there, Lamia

The link is here : ua-cam.com/video/WLe1eIic62Q/v-deo.html
The same youtuber have recently released a video in which he admitted he was wrong about m2 pro 14 base and recommends its purchase.
Anyway, also the Zone of Tech tests confirm that performance is better with 14 m2 Pro base, especially in video editing, photo editing and 3D (from 1.3 to 1.6 faster).

Hey Dion,
@bramfolbert
I cant find my first comment again so I decided to post a second haha. Very interesting video about the Macbook Pro versions. I am considering buying a Macbook, however I'm in doubt about getting an Air or Pro. I mainly use my laptop for light work (think about Word and Excel) I therefore don't feel I need a Pro version. But I don't want to feel limited when buying an Air haha.. Struggles
Hi Bram based on your information the Air seems more than enough to me
@bharathmenon09
The fact that Apple is constantly updating the Mac is indeed a great thing. The M2 chip offers even more bang for your buck IMO.
@angelfatel
Considering both options now. Thanks for the video. Very clear.
@nageshbrn
Great comparison and thanks for clearing all my doubts and helping me to purchase right product .
Thanks.
@sgtzeus
personally, i’d like to own an m1 pro, since it is still a powerful device but it is less expensive than the m2! unfortunately, i couldn’t find stores that still sell the m1 😭
