We don’t know what ‘Indian’ music in 3000bc sounded like as there is no record of Harappan or other IVC music and this was 500 years before the Aryan invasion. The earliest record of Indian music is the Samaveda which is probably 1200bc or later

I feel like India has so much cultural heritage and so much concerning ancient music. Yet no one has made a ‘historically informed’ performance of anything. Best I’ve heard is the gundecha brothers’ recording of certain dhrupads from the 16th century. I think this is a really underdeveloped area and perhaps in future we could hear these pieces performed as close as possible to how they would have been heard.

I feel like India has so much cultural heritage and so much concerning ancient music. Yet no one has made a ‘historically informed’ performance of anything. Best I’ve heard is the gundecha brothers’ recording of certain dhrupads from the 16th century. I think this is a really underdeveloped area and perhaps in future we could hear these pieces performed as close as possible to how they would have been heard.
Most of these songs are palyed in india daily. Most of them are hindu religious hymes which we still play in temples.
