More recent versions of WoW were made for people who don't like to play MMOs. I'm one of them - a lot of the things that people say they miss about classic WoW were some of the things that made it incredibly tedious. A lot of the design was obtuse, involved far too much grinding and I think many people mistake liking classic for simple nostalgia. If you asked me to pick one thing that was wrong with modern WoW (which could be Cata onwards by some definitions), I think they add too many systems to each expansion (including dailies). I also think to keep the game interesting, they should add procedural dungeons and a bigger dungeon pool in general - more ways to do PVE and forget all the annoying rep systems.
