    I recently purchased a 1997 Club Cart DS and plan to change the oil, oil filter, and differential fluid. I downloaded the owners manual as well as the service manual supplement. I am studying those along with watching repair and maintenance videos.
    I think your golf cart repair and maintenance videos are the best ones on UA-cam. You show and explain the details of the repairs, which is really helpful. Your camera angles and audio are excellent.

    Spring is always the PITA. Can be done when fully installed. Every owner knows.

    My neighbor is a 77 yr old cancer victim, her CLUB CAR DS sat for 2 years while she had her surgery and went through Chemo and stayed with her kids for a while. She is finally cancer free and she has gotten back in to her home... she tried to drive her golf cart but it wouldnt start...so she called me. 1st thing was that the battery was shot, so 1 replaced it. 2nd thing was to drain the old gas, which i did via syphon, i got out as much as possibly by syphoning, then pulled the fuel line off the carb and turned over the engine to pump out any old gas in the line (this also helped me verify that the fuel pump was working...which it was). 3rd thing was to check spark which looked real good, but i replaced the plug anyway. Next was to replacing the air filter then adding fresh fuel....once all that was done, i tried to start it...but, NO START. Engine has compression, air, spark and fuel...so i pulled the carb to clean it..float and pin looked good and with the exception of a small amount of light debri in the float bowl it looked pretty good, but i went thru the entire carb and made sure every orifice was clean and reinstalled it and tried to start it again...still, no start. I put my hand over the top of the carb and it sucked my hand right down to the carb, i left my hand there for about 20 seconds, then pulled the plug to see if it was wet...it was not wet. Also, if i shoot a quick shot of starting fluid in to the carb throat, it will start for about 5 seconds... but it wont run on its own fuel...or should i say that i suspect that its not getting fuel in to the engine even though i know its getting in to the carb. I know this because i can unscrew the float bowl drain and gas comes out. Ideas? I'm stumped.

    Good video! I’ve still got quite a few ds carts to keep running. A couple things to consider; 1. I don’t remove oil pan plugs anymore. I got tired of the mess, crawling on the floor, and most importantly wrench monkeys that over tighten or worse round off the hex. All my oil changes are with a dipstick vacuum now. Just the hand pump type. It takes a few minutes, but there’s plenty of other things to do. I can do 5-7 oil changes before emptying the globe. 2. I’ve had backfire from the linkage bracket on the carb being bent or warped which causes a small air leak. It’s mostly from golfers sticking a club in there to try and get more speed. They also seem to bust the yellow wire off the generator that way too. 3. I like to use a longer 3/8 bolt on the batteries with side terminals and then put a nut on. Bottom out the bolt then tighten the wires with the nut. That way I can get rid of the crappy ring terminals and put on heavy duty lead ones and still have room for other accessory wires. It’s also easier to hook up a charger or load tester. Hard agree about the battery hold downs. They are always buried in dried mud. 4. The fuel filters that came from the factory are serviceable. I hardly ever change filters.
    Enjoyed your video. Keep on wrenching!

    I had backfire going on , well I finally figured it out . The top of the carb was extremely dirty, I sprayed it down with carb cleaner , let I sit for 5 minutes and hosed the carb off with the hose , sprayed it down with W-40 . Had to let it sit for a hour because I got the magneto wet , oops . But it runs better than ever now . No backfire issues

    Great video! I have a 1999 Club Car with hydraulic valves. The compression is only 110. I saw in one of your comments that it should not be lower than 125. The problem I am having is the engine does not want to take the gas without choking. If you pop the air filter open so it can draw air in it runs fine. The carburetor appears to be sucking really hard because it will actually hold the choke button in , then you have to pull it out with your hand. There is no blockage from the choke button to the carburetor. I am confused as to the low compression but the strong suction when choking. Any suggestions would be appreciated. (New carburetor, pump and filters). Thanks Lao

    Hey Kevin, I have a 2000 Club Car DS. I bought it from a guy who's son, 14 year old, got ahold of it and adjusted everything out of whack. When I got it, it would go full blast as soon as you stepped on the accelerator pedal. I took to a friend of a friend who swore he knew how to get it running right and now its really jacked up. When the accelerator pedal is stepped on, it doesn't even want to run, I noticed he had adjusted the accelerator pedal, the governor, and the metal rod connected to the accelerator pedal. Can you tell me how to at least get it where it would run? Thanks man! I wish I lived closer to you, I would just bring it to you. I'm in the midwest. Your help is greatly appreciated, Love your videos.

      I can't say for sure since I've rarely had to adjust valves on any Yamaha cart. You can remove the valve cover and see if it has any adjuster screws on the rockers. If it does, then they are adjustable. If not, then they are hydraulic lifters.

      Pop the valve cover off. If you have adjuster screws, then you have adjustable valves. If there are no adjusters, then you have hydraulic lifters and automatically adjust with oil pressure. FE120-FE290 engines with adjustments should be .0047" (.12mm).

      These valves self-adjust and there's no adjustment needed. The oil pressure from the engine is what keeps them adjusted properly. Make sure your oil is always clean and filter is changed regularly.

      Make sure all of the gaskets around the intake are good. It doesn't take much of a rip or missing gasket to cause starting issues. By design, these engines don't idle so you may have something else wrong if your engine is idling.

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  2 роки тому +1

      No. Top dead center serves no purpose for valve adjustment. It will keep pressure on some valves. The valve rocker needs to be loose to properly adjust it. The cam lobe MUST point straight down away from the rocker.

      Javier Reyes is the fuel pump getting fuel to the carburetor? Sounds like it could be a blocked fuel line or weak fuel pump. You can remove the pulser line that comes from the engine to the pump and be sure it's clear. Sometimes it blocks with oil residue and stops the pump from working.

    • @javierreyes4236

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  6 років тому +3

      Javier Reyes it should be somewhat steady. It will pulse but you should have a flow. If there's a leak on the supply line, it will pull air and not pump properly, same for the pulsar line. Also check the siphon tube that goes into the tank. Sometimes they fall off into the tank and will not let you get fuel. Open the gas cap and see if it runs. If so then you have a blocked tank vent. You can use a vented gas cap of the tank vent is blocked.

    i have a 2009 turf 1 with the 350, runs great just backfires every once in awhile going down hill. would you say it needs cable adjustment or butterfly valve not closing all the way? just had a full service done but dont think they touched the carb. ive never touched a carb on one of these but was thinking of at least draining the bowl from it, any input id appreciate.

      Backfiring is usually from a worn drive belt or accelerator cables out of adjustment.

    To make those adjustments to .006 how do you know where the valve is supposed to be? or get it to where it's supposed to be? I saw a video that says to turn clutch until the piston is at the top of the compression stroke. How will I know that? Thank you in advance.

      Should be at top dead center on compression stroke when setting valves.

      @@mikenelson1004 what does that mean? how do you know it's in the correct position to measure/adjust? Both lifters all the way up and basically in the same position?

    What does adjusting the valves actually do? And when i changed my oil, same model and year, the manual recommended sae 30 for higher temp regions. I live in florida, so i did. Would you recommend 10w30 as a default? Appreciate any feedback

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts

      Adjusting the valves keeps the gap between the cam shaft and rocker set correctly. When the gap decreases (gets smaller), it causes the valves to not close completely. This can cause loss of compression and incomplete combustion. When the gap increases (gets bigger), it doesn't allow the valves to open enough. This can have the same effect. This is something that should be performed annually on the 2 cylinder Robin engine. If you use the cart daily and it works hard, I would use 10w30 or 10w40 conventional oil. I typically run 10w30 in all the carts I service, unless they call for synthetic or special oil.

      @@Kevinsgolfcarts thank you so much for your response. I changed the oil a couple months ago and put sae 30. Should i wait to put 10w30 or change it asap?

      You should be fine running that until your next oil change. Thank you for your kind words! I hope to be back up and running very soon making more videos. Its very slow this time of year.

    When putting the carb back on how do you know the adjustment screws are correct and set right or do you adjust it after it’s running? I’ll be installing a new carburetor and I can’t find how to adjust once it’s done.

    • @Kevinsgolfcarts
      @Kevinsgolfcarts  6 років тому

      There's typically only a mix screw on these carbs. They don't have a Hi or Lo adjustment. They are usually set from the factory and are pretty close. If I completely remove it, I turn them all the way in, and back out 1.5 turns and go from there.
