The problem with this approach is that I really have come to a oppose doing research for cold calls. Roughly four out of every 30 calls you make even answer the phone, so the vast majority of your research is a waste. Second, not everyone has a trail on the internet. Many leads you go after it will have no LinkedIn page and will result in nothing if you do a Google search. And finally, knowing something about a blog post the person made, or their favorite ice cream, for all practical purposes in the real world means nothing when you're actually talking to a prospect on the phone. You're trying to sell to them, they know you're trying to sell to them, you actually come across as more phony when you try to hide it.
