    Im at this rank for a quite some time, and here are the interesting things i noticed in this series of videos:
    1. You dont flip when its not needed
    2. Your usage of 50s is so good, you keep control of the ball in a lot of situations when i wouldve lost it;
    3. You are very patient, and combined with ability to get favorable 50s it lets you keep good control of the game in general, not overcommit and prevent dangerous situations from happening.
    So these subtle things actually make a huge difference, i'll try to implement it in my gameplay, thank you

    I feel like that kind of video is a big trap for those who are trying to learn, because it makes things that are very difficult sound easy. Sure, doing a front flip is easy, doing a simple aerial with no air roll is easy. But all this is really not enough without
    * the backboard save at 1:53, which is clearly not easy to a D2 player, where on top of actually getting a touch on the ball, you get it on the side of the car for the ball to fly high past the net, followed by a really good air-roll based recovery.
    * The challenge with a single jump at 1:59 is great.. provided you can perfectly wave dash to recover. Otherwise, the time loss is monstrous considering the car position and this is just giving back the ball to the opponent
    * The chip at 2:04 is genius (although technically hard to time for a D2 player) but should be a pass at that level. Jumping *instantly* for the follow up and outspeeding the opponents is not D2-level, and will just result in a bad double commit, potentially leading to a goal for the opponents oncounter attack, in such a lobby
    *perfectly executed wave dash kickoff at 2:26: I am in c2-c3 lobbies and I don t see players doing wave dash kickoffs remotely as good. The problem is not the speed flip, it s the perfection of execution of both speed flip and wave dash, that is clearlynot reachable for most D players (or C players even).
    * casual speed flip into zap dash at 2:30, increasing momentum without any boost and making "being fast" look easy while it is very hard in that position. Most people would be much slower to get boost/get around the field without the zap dash and would not have the same point of view on what follows, resulting in a wanky/maybe failed save at 2:33
    *The perfect wall read at 2:36, confident enough to single jump in order to shoot the ball at net perfectly, is I think very hard for a D2.
    This whole gameplay sequence is not just "two basic front flips" executed with consistency. It s a display of GC-SSL ground/recovery mechanics, that together with a great vision of the play and an ability to read both the opponents and wall bounces( hard for any player I d say) lead to outplaying the opponent by a hair to score a perfect shot, which is itself as well a display of GC-SSL mechanics, but applied to a simple situation/aerial. And all of this is only the first 47 seconds of the game. All that to say: if you think airroll should not be necessary at that rank, then you could try to unbind it so that "accidental" perfect recoveries using it don't happen. Also, not wave-dashing, zap-dashing, or doing perfect backboard touches might help simulate more relatable gaming conditions. It's like a "basic shadow-defense on a shot": the aerial itself is not hard, but reading the ball and the camera to get it right is very hard, and just reducing it to "it is a basic aerial that everyone can do" is just sweeping all the issues under the carpet.

    • @capest2831
      @capest2831 9 місяців тому +11

      @@IAmProcrastinating Exactly! Flakes is probably the exception to that, as he *actually* shows relatable gameplay and does not go for shots that would require to be better - but his shadowing abilities, prejumps and his sense of timing on powerslide cuts are still a little too unrealistic. Leth also does a pretty good job at not being too mechanical, but I think Leth' s issue is that he'll try not to lose a little too much and ends up saving crazy shtuff as well. Really hard to find "good pro-made material" to improve. If things come to that, it's probably more instructional to have them play "at their level" and own the smurfing instead of pretending that anyone can just replicate it.

    • @Theprinceofopposites
      @Theprinceofopposites 9 місяців тому +11

      @@capest2831 well said on all points. This kind of game play just isn't replicable for someone actually in these ranks. Especially because of his god tier game sense, reads, and consistency. For an actual player in D2/3 they're gonna make bad reads, miss, and be in the wrong positon or over commit, and if it's not them it'll be their teammate. These kinds of videos have a lot of value but they have to be executed properly, playing with less than rank appropriate mechs to make up for their massively superior game sense and focusing on explaining how to develop that kind of game sense. Flakes def does a good job of it but even then, he always knows when to fake challenge and cover the shot and make the save, which most players below gc will struggle with. Not to mention his almost prescient ability to know when the opponent will challenge and to powerslide cut, it's fun to watch but again hard to replicate. I don't want to see pros smurf with "basic mechanics" I want to see how they rotate, position, and control the pace of the game in a way that is replicable. That being said, I still learn a lot from these videos. Especially the back wall best friend bit and the rule set around when to challenge or not based on who is closer to the ball, and we definitely need more of that game sense focused advice

    something that I've noticed with people that are less consistent mechanically (myself included at c2) is that your level of awareness is limited because of how much mental energy your spending on simply hitting the ball the way you want it to. Its something that I think is underestimated when people say to just focus on game sense and positioning because improving your mechanics can free up your mental capacity to actually focus on those things. I'm starting to turn towards learning more freestyle mechanics just so I don't have to struggle so much in normal gameplay.

      I see a fair amount of flip resets from Diamonds and Champs. It's not a mechanic I can do as my mechanics are closer to gold, but they're pretty common at those ranks now to the point where it doesn't particularly impress me anymore. A big difference between those guys and higher level players is they don't always know what to do when challenged in the air. Their Freeplay mechanics are quite good, but just fast aerial at them and they panic.

    I know this is super late but the reason that the comments are saying that diamonds have “crazy mechanics” is because diamond is this magical rank where you’ll find players with 2 of 3 things: mechanics, consistency, or game-sense. For example, you’ll have players who are always where they need to be and get some crazy air-dribbles, but miss easy hits. Or someone who can’t do a basic dribble but is patient and always gets a good touch when they go. Champ is where people start to put all 3 together, and Grand Champ is where people have all 3 together, and add speed.

    D3/ C1 player. You’re definitely right about people being within their correct rank. It’s just so frustrating because when I watch you beat these kids you make the game look so easy and make them look so slow by controlling the tempo of the game. But if I try to take my time and take a slow approach, I just get beat to the ball every time. And in ranks like these people don’t respect someone having possession, they just chase or cut off when they’re not “supposed” to. And not be one of those people but trying to watch objectively as I could so i can compare to my gameplay, and it just doesn’t seem the same. For instance at 2:39, when I play, someone will already be up there to challenge that 9/10 times.

    Watching the second game, and hearing you say you havent seen any of the "mystical diamonds" that we talk about slightly bothers me. I love your videos squishy, you are a GOAT. But keep in mind, in these games, even though you are holding back massively, you are that mystical diamond we run into. Your rotation is flawless and your recovery times and accuracy, whether you are trying to be mechanical with your plays and movements or not, the natural mechanics you have with all of your hours really take over.
    Yes, there are some diamonds that can consistently speed flip, sure. Even a few that go for flip resets or ceiling reset shots and can attempt air dribbles. Their consistency is not great at these ranks, which is why us normal diamonds can sometimes still defend and even maybe win. they might score a few, but maybe more than half of the time, they overcommit and lose their control and give up the ball. People can do higher level mechanics and still suck.
    When I see Fast, Consistent positioning, and start feeling like I cant get more than a defensive touch that I cant control and the opponent controls the pace of everything.. then I start questioning them being in the same rank as me. When I see mechanics come out, such as directional air rolling air dribbles into a flip reset, and even something as small as the subtle air roll before taking a shot to add power or direction, all of this on top of being a fast and accurate player is when I decide somebody is Champ or above.
    Another side note, when you are doing a Road to SSL, on a new account, the MMR scaling is curved to give more MMR because of your lack of losses. It takes at least two wins for us just to get one division up all the way until roughly mid-champ, without winning consistently we spend hundreds of games in one rank. If a random you played with in one of these videos had the same mod to allow you to see MMR gains at the end of a match, they could easily see you are a new account based on everybody else getting 9 points of MMR while you get 30+. You can't fairly judge how a rank is these days when you aren't even in it for more than a few games when you keep a 100% win rate.
    I enjoy watching the games and getting tips, but there's such a bias from pro players about the different skill levels these days.. and having pro players in our lobbies, and hearing them saying they don't see any of the smurfs we talk about is crazy. No offense to you intended, but I just want to raise some awareness.

    Hey Squishy, after watching this video I hopped onto rocket league and implemented this playstyle. No joke, I went from c1 d1 to c2 d1 in around an hour and a half. I won 15 games and now at my peak. This playstyle is actually very good, considering that you don't really even need good mechs to play like this. Squishy, thanks for the informative video. Will continue to get better.

    • @Theprinceofopposites
      @Theprinceofopposites 9 місяців тому

      what parts of his playstyle has helped you the most? I'm sitting around c1 myself, and wondering what I can be doing better

    • @Vull1fy
      @Vull1fy 9 місяців тому +1

      @@Theprinceofopposites I mostly just go for touches that are necessary and don't go for air roll aerials. I only use air roll for when im trying to re-adjust my car for recoveries or in the air so my car is in the right angle. I hit some of my best shots from barely using air roll. Also being patient is a great factor in the playstyle. Trust me, if I went for 2x more shots that were given to me it would've just ended in a waste of boost or being in a bad position. In summary: just use air roll for slight adjustments, be patient with the ball, let your teammates ball chase instead of yourself because you are given more opportunities if you sit. Defence is a important part of the playstyle because my defence is the main reason why we score. Champs like to overextend to our side and when they are confident, just hit it away from them and they lose possession, thus increasing chances of scoring. I can't remember fully every thing from the playstyle that I implemented, but I simply just played smart and only went for the touches that were necessary. In the end, champs are just diamonds who know a bit more mechs and are a bit more consistent. Pretty much meaning that they will still make mistakes. Find those mistakes and play off them. Your challenges are also really important. If your teammate is back at net and your playing shadow defence, go for the ball. It will make your teammates job easier. The main 3 things is work on your challenges or 50's, they are really important. Play patiently, let the enemy have the ball if its in a bad position, and play simple. Sorry for being a bit repetitive, not really good at explaining.

And me personallly felt for a long time that i was much better than the people i was playing against due to me not seeing my opponents do the mechanics i have done. Obviously, someone like you will be able to handle a smurf easily and it might not be as apparent to you but I swear there is at least 1 person every game or every other game that will flip reset, air dribble, power flick, etc... There are even quiet folks (playing like yourself) that just have unbelievable control and you can tell they are holding back because while we suck, we can tell who a good player is even if they aren't being saucy

    A tip that helped me in freeplay is high intensity intervals. Go super sonic and hit the ball and add challenges to it, don't let it bounce more than once and then go for PB's of how many consistent hits you can get hit. Then go slower, add mechanics or ball control. Simply add speed to anything you do and then you slowly get better at it

Even though you aren't doing fast shots, they are still well-placed. Also, with how few games you are spending in each rank, there isn't a chance to see the variation in players. My games feel like plat with some players and champ with others. TLDR: MECHANIC CONSISTENCY WINS

    I really appreciate this video Squishy.
    I am diamond 3 in 3s and it makes a lot of sense when you say don't use air roll yet. You're awesome bro. I would love to play 🫶

      As much as I love Scrub’s 1v2 he’s too inconsistent and gets tilted way too hard when he hits low GC. So he always ends up quitting early.
      Squishy would absolutely absolutely roll up to high GC3. It would be his best series if he did it but I don’t know if that’s his style. Kinda have to be aggro like Scrub I think.

      Agreed, would be cool to see if Squishy could get past GC 2 which I think is what Scrub got to?

      Squishy won't reach gc2 ( EU ) at any point if we talking 2v1 buddy let alone High gc3@@msayenkomsayenko

      The 1v2 series is some of my favorite rl content. Would be nice to see someone do it who isn’t as washed as scrub

    I love the content squishy!! I thought the bronze league and silver stuff was fun to watch but at the same time I’m thinking “does anyone who watches squishy really need bronze level tips” lol. I would love to see a 3v3 solo queue series as well!

    me watching this having been a d2 not too long ago and also being able to consistently fast aerial and speed flip and half flip and seeing squishy saying “i think some diamonds can speed flip” “oh wait that guy fast aerialed, we can fast aerial.” man squishy have some more faith in us, man really thinks we’re just absolute bots 😂💀
