It's hilarious seeing these screens, specially the GRID one sold for 400€ without shipping, all using the same 50€ VoCore display, some 5€ arduino based pcb, 1€ worth of leds and still dependent of SimHub...
If you like to make your own projects and have a printer just make one yourself. Multiple designs shared around or design one yourself. I made myself a perfect Cosworth ICD replica and it's exactly the same as all of that for like 60€.
A Bosch DDU5 replica doesn't seem too hard to do other than a 10€ laser cut Lexan sheet.
I understand there's people not looking for too much of a hassle and purchase everything plug and play, but a benefit margin of ~600% in the case of the GRID is absolutely crazy for me.

I feel this, bought plans of cults for a dash + leds. easiest project ive ever done. Hardest part was finishing the PLA 3d printed case and making the plastic look not 3d printed lol
Some people know how to cook some people don't and buy overpriced fast food. If you know how to do this kind of stuff and you have the time, definitely build your and maybe build a couple more for some profits.
I just got the telemetry display from MVH for ~$130 which is a reasonable price. It even works with certain console games. Only downside is you're limited to one of their 3 pre-built dash designs, but for the price to be able to just plug it in and have it work was nice. No way in hell was I going to spend $400 on $60 worth of parts.
I'm also under the assumption most of these things act as yet another monitor, which I definitely don't want to deal with. The MVH one is independent, though fed by simhub over wifi

15:00 where it makes sense to me is unless your monitor is low, with the wheel covering quite a bit of it, the camera has to be set unnaturally in order to see the monitor's Dash.
Or if you're playing RF2 where the Dash shows you basically nothing.😅
I ended up buying a USBD480 LCD screen a few years ago for around $90 USD and had a mount 3D printed for $35 USD. Works perfect with SimHub and zDashboard and works off just a single USB connection.
I went with the DS1-S from simcore as I wanted a screen without leds. very happy with it.
JRT’s dash overlay is a cheap and easy to use alternative. Lots of configuration possible. There’s also a setting which automatically hides the dash when you’re not in the car.

I specifically like driving cars like the Porsche 718 GT4 or McLaren 720s because of the onscreen dash. I used a dash like these at one point in time for F1…..but as you said they are annoying anytime you are not using them as they block the screen.
For sure you don't NEED one but I think its just so more immersive. I use the Grid DDU5 and love it.
Considered a display screen but determined it was redundant with the in game dash if playing in cockpit view and prob unneccessarily takes up pc resources. Nevertheless, I appreciate the review!

DDUs are really helpful if you drive formula style cars as they don’t have the dash that gt cars have if you fully remove the steering wheel from the screen

I use a old phone as a dash. Is usefull when you got a smaler screen where the in game dash isnt fully show.

not only that you cannot move the replay controls, you don’t get any live data for tyres on external dashboards in iracing, in 2022… But as long as you can mow the gras and gain time with it, this “simulation” is seen as the holy grail by the most…
They all ship globaly??
Sim Racing Addict makes better dash options for same price as the lower priced unit.
If I could program the dash with custom data that I actually wanted, rather than just a duplication on what's on the UI, sure.
Other than "the look", never got the point of a dash that wasn't fully customizable as a mini third screen with the related software.
I think you can customize the dash via simhub
Yeah as Rodrigo said you normally can custom configure all of these screens per car layout. The one that I don't get are the wheels that have the screen built in. Why do you want a screen that you can only read while driving straight because it's moving all over the place in turns?
I mean ... how often do you try to read your dash while driving a corner? :P
If you like GT racing, lovely dashboard is better than anything including the real cars DDU

To be honest I've never seen the point of these as the sims we drive already have the correct dash for the car, RaceRoom excepted, but there's still a dash.
Also if you're a VR user like I tend to be then they're absolutely useless.
And this is a personal thing - having used the Thrustmaster SF1000 formula rim, my poor old eyes couldn't focus quickly enough on the inbuilt screen when looking away from the main monitor. These are probably great for younger people, but the older you get the more inflexible your eyes get. Just to quickly mention that this doesn't happen in VR as everything you see is at a fixed focal length, therefore your eyes don't need to refocus.
For me it's not useful in all sims, but in iRacing and Dirt 2.0 often you can't see the incar dash (I remember seeing this with TCR cars + triples). ACC gets this right.
@@buttdyno Ah well there you go. iRacing I don't use as it's rather old and showing it, and with DR2 I'll be in VR.

I dont get what you guys are saying, with the correct camera height and correct field of vieuw you dont see your dash parameters, so i think these displays are useful
