    I swear Coch and Dorr seem like the two dudes who would be in a gunfight cracking jokes and yelling at the enemy that they suck while sending rounds. Thanks for the outstanding video, you dudes are epic.

    I keep going back to what Coch said is the bigger the bag the more crap you don't need you are going to fill it with. With Cold weather stuff you don't have choice. I like the line you want to leave the water with the water. However if you were doing what Dor was doing and using it as a suitcase then it is perfect. I like the gray man concept that you also talked about. However, knowing what the locals have you can't always find out until you get there. Funny how the Alice Pack still works for all those field ops like jumping and swimming. Somethings just don't change. I love the verity of gear you guys have. I get ideas for gear without have to learn the hard way you guys did. You do a videos on civilian bailout bag for deserts and snow country for what you only need to survive 72 hrs with no support. Great Video!!!

    10:24 the previous version before the Mystery Ranch was issued was made by „Bergans of Norway“. Maybe that’s the reason why they called it still bergan.
    Many thanks for all the Rucksack information.

    •  Рік тому +1

      I was issued a Bergans of Norway “Bergen” during my time in the Swedish Marines, and while I do not know the complete history of rucksacks it’s not hard to imagine that they made the original if that style. Or at least perfected and popularized it.

      The original large packs issued to British troops were by Bergans of Norway. The name stuck and now all large packs are called bergan's its funny seeing the term has migrated across the pond to the US, lol.

    The marine bag is the ilbe. Replaced by the filbe because the internal frame is not friendly with body armor. It was designed by arcteryx and made by propper. Sell for 125- 150 ish. The assault pack attaches to the outside via side buckles on the main pack. Holds 125 lbs. Key point is setting your torso length and strap height. Otherwise it will hurt you with weight and distance like any bag. Awesome video.

    • @jeffmonson2073
      @jeffmonson2073 Рік тому

      I used to have an ilbe pack but they’re not meant for tall people and I HATED it! I’m 6’3” and adjusted the torso as tall as it would go, but it was always torture on my shoulders. Couldn’t get the weight to transfer to my hips so I sold it

    Thanks for posting these awesome video's. I work in a sporting goods store in Portland OR and I've been getting a lot of questions about "Bug out bags" and I draw a lot on, not only my own brief military experience, but I also re distribute a lot of info I get from video's like these. Thanks again for all you guy's do!!

    These were all great bags and rucks! I especially loved the woodland MARPAT ILBE and whatever that AOR1 ruck was. If you guys haven't heard of them yet, check out Crossfire Australia, I own a DG-16. It's my best ruck! Next time they have a sale, or maybe even sooner, I'm going to get they're largest size. Which is 120 liters I believe. The DG-16 I bought is 80 liters. But when you throw a couple of the full size MOLLE 2 sustainment pouches, and the FILBE, or MOLLE 2 hydration pouches, or you can use all sustainment pouches for more storage space. Either way, each pouch probably adds another 10-15 liters of space. So the 80 liter has suited my needs for the most part. But on a week long hunting, camping, or especially cold weather hunting, camping, or worst case scenario combat, you definitely want as much space as possible. If you want to see what the Crossfire Australia rucksacks look like you can check out they're UA-cam channel "Crossfire Australia". They show their rucks and even have some reviews from people testing them. They made them for the Australian military, and have moved some of their production and sales here. Brent0331 on UA-cam did quite a few videos on a few of they're rucks, including the biggest one. So check them out, they are loaded with features, and have the most comfortable rucks to wear with body armor, chest rigs, h harnesses, Rhodesian chest rigs, and even water bladders. Which makes them the best combat rucks for the money in my opinion. You should talk to them, they are really cool. They'd probably even give you a ruck to review. Take care, thanks for the video and knowledge you guys share!!!!😎🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅👊👊

    The name Bergen came to be a term in the military as it was adapted from the town named Bergen in Norway as it produced a mountaineering rucksack that was popular amongst outdoorsmen pre WW2. When the British Commandos recruited outdoor adventurers in the UK, they brought this style of pack with them.

    I think if you're serious about backpacks (or really any kind of tactical textile gear) you should be serious about learning how use a sewing machine. The ability to not just repair but also customize your backpacks or other gear is a real game changer.

    Great video. Brought back so many memories of my own bags and deployments. One of my favorites was my large Alice pack streamed in from 100 feet when my lowering line broke during a jump. Pack and radio survived. MREs in outer packets did not. Lol.

    As far as Greyman thing goes, it depends also on your area / community in which ones lives, and travels in. My area Pinellas County Fl. tactical military looking backbacks are the norm, however across the bay in Tampa, it would be out of place. That fickle finger of X factors I guess. I usually carry the radiomans medium ALICE pack with no frame, it doesnt get attention on either side of Tampa Bay.
    But the way I see it, in bad times one is a target no matter the kind of backpack, just keep clear of crowds at all best possible, ( SERE ) and stick to the shadows.

    Hi. I think 'bergen' originates from Norway. It's associated with a Norwegian guy surnamed Bergan. Maybe the Brits got it from the days when they used Norwegian guides for mountain climbing in Europe.

    If I could kill the ILBE Sustainment Ruck and “Assault pack”, then I could move on, but ILBE just keeps going like the day they issued it to me. It wasn’t too terrible for intermediate swim qual, about on par with free diving with the Alice ruck. Arc’Teryx designed, manufactured by Proper. Kelty makes a one for one identical pack. I did crack a Kelty Internal Frame Stay by putting another persons pack on top of mine when I had to, this didn’t happen when I did the same thing with the ILBE Sustainment pack. The FILBE felt better over my Flak. The Alice Ruck just won’t die either, I just put it on different external/ meat pack-out frames these days. Would love to use the Crossfire DG3 with my belt and harness web gear and/or Flak, as it is intended and purpose built for.
