Dorr, being from Tacoma, should tell the story about 15 Rangers taking on the crips street gang that totally ended the reign of terror on Ash Street in 1989.
for me it's really inspiring to meet a fellow Washingtonian/Tacoma resident like Dorr that became a Navy seal, although I am an aspiring Ranger it's nice to hear that a person you look up to came from the same place you did.
Respect to anyone that aspires and follows through on whatever is most important to them. Be sure to notice when your priorities change and act accordingly and decisively.
the rangers were in iran, during the iran hostage rescue ... they did their job. there are actually 3 levels of rangers. school trained, regiment, and the tier 1 rangers within the regiment. RLTW 2/75 1979-1985
My son was at Army jump school at Benning in 1991 and watched a platoon of Marines make their first jump . Two of the Marines had their chutes stream. One of them had the wherewithal to cut away his main and open his reserve but hit hard and broke his legs. The other Marine froze and went in hard. My son said to me , "Dad , I didn't know a human body could bounce like that !" The Marine died on impact . A profoundly sobering experience . My son said it really took some talking to stop that platoon of Marines from going to the rigging shed to "get some answers".
The other thing a lot of people don't realize about the 75th is that even if you go through RASP and get your scroll, a lot of people still don't do Ranger stuff. They have cooks, mechanics, riggers, etc
I lived in Santa Maria, which is just a few minutes south of Pismo Beach, for 8 years and just yesterday while driving through a city in Ohio I saw someone wearing a Pismo Beach T-Shirt. Just kinda crazy for a pretty small town.
Each group has 3,000 "green berets," so there are around 16,000 green berets. Everyone and their mother is a green beret. It is easier to become a green beret (50% make it) than becoming a marine marsoc.
I wasn't a Ranger, but I knew a few, and there used to just be one school Ranger Indoctrination Program (RIP) that was mostly a selection course but followed by actual Ranger training, as I understand it. Then they opened it up to everyone and it got changed into the school it is today, over time. So the Rangers still needed the program they lost for their new prospects and created RASP. I don't even remember what it stands for now. Anyway, that is pretty much the old RIP and only available for Army dudes there to become true Rangers. The graduates of that go on to a Ranger unit and get the scroll. The jokers coming out of RIP just get a tab that means they graduated that school. This is why you see quite a few with the tab that may not even be combat arms. This is how it was when I was in but things have changed quite a bit since I got out in 2009. The worst of it to me is that there's those vets with a tab that really means they served as a Ranger, because of when they were in, and then you have the ones that just played the part for a bit and went home without ever learning anything about being a Ranger. It's a bit like how they stole the black beret from the Rangers and issues one to EVERYONE in the army. As I predicted, the Rangers adopted the tan beret to have something that means something. We all hated that decision because we didn't EARN ours like they did.
So interesting, thanks from a guy who didn’t serve. Should be mandatory for one or two years, the country would be a better place. Can’t thank you guys enough.
During my time in the Army as a regular Mech Infantryman and in an Airborne Infantry Battalion, the cultures were different. When I got to Airborne I got to meet SF and real Rangers who were known as "Scrolls" and "Tab:" guys who were usually NCOs who were never in the Ranger Battalions. On my level we had the guys who had Ranger contracts but failed Ranger Indoctrination Program and sent them to us the Airborne Infantry, these were some angry and bitter fuckers because they were already parachute qualified. They already came to us already angry and got into trouble and hate the world and eventually get kicked out of the Army. Now there is real hatred between "Scrolls" and "Tabs". Both went to Ranger School but both went their separate ways after graduation, one went back to their battalion and the other went back to their home unit. "Scrolls" will have to serve time in Big Army as a squad leader or platoon sergeant in regular infantry or Airborne. This is where the war begins when they both meet, the "Scrolls" who were in Ranger Battalions would argue and fight with the "Tab" guys, these are usually NCOs. The "Scrolls" would talk to us soldiers what life was like in the Ranger Battalions. Life for a Private after passing "RIP" was brutal, because discipline in the Ranger Battalions was very harsh. Any mistake will cost you to be punished with no mercy and get kicked out real quick if they want to get rid of you and send you to regular Airborne Infantry or other regular Army units, very heart breaking for guys who were in the Battalions for a while. Every soldier was expected to excel above standards everyday. The Ranger Batt Privates got their asses kicked everyday until they passed Ranger School when it was their turn and life would ease up a bit because you got the Ranger tab and graduated and were put in a leadership position. Some "Scrolls" who did time in the Battalions that went to Airborne and Big Army to become squad leaders or platoon sergeants were some real hard fuckers but more chill than they were at the Batt. They got to be more relaxed and not stress but they had super powers as senior NCOs. The Special Forces guys were a totally different breed of soldiers. Totally very cool and they had a very professional aura around them of confidence. We never tried to fuck with them or even the "Tabs" or "Scrolls" to even one up them. The SF guys were like the Jedi Knights of the Army, nobody fucked with them, their demeanor was far more subtle and relaxed than Big Army or Ranger Battalions. Fucking true professionals to the core with a great sense of humor but totally professional attitude when they taught you on anything from weapons to explosives, and tactics. When they talk, everyone listens.
My favorite SEAL vs Army SF story, and most telling, is that one day on the range, SF was routinely outshooting the SEALS. But when ENDEX was called, the SEALs packed up to head back to the hotel and kick back… while the Army was still picking up their brass. 😂
I was going to school with a guy that was in a Ranger Unit as a Comm RTO. He said by the time they had to jump they were itching to get on the ground so they could piss. Respect for all. Big Army has lots of big stuff to bring to the fight when they are allowed to use them. You could have a daily video on the stupid stuff Marines do. One question. Did the Green Berets sell their cookies when they were in Afghanistan and Iraq? Asking for a Friend. 😳 Great Video!!!
In Nam we all helped and appropriated each other. This sounds like crap talk, come on folks. At 72 yrs old things are coming and we will all need each other.
Went to Ranger school, 12B, Sapper, back in 96, TAB kinda meant something back then, but you weren't a Ranger without that scroll. Today they label graduates as Ranger qualified, and the entire thing loses its effectiveness if they just keep letting you try until you pass. Guys would recycle back then but that rate is way higher today. Scrolled Ranger are highly motivated young men and like Marines they do what they're told and do so with tenacity.
My brother served in Iraq. 1/25 sbct and said that the rangers he dealt with were premadonnas. He also said that there was a team the picked up, that he thinks were delta because they had no identifying labels, were cool.

Damn right.

Absolutely love Coch and Dorr’s attitude.
Two super cool guys.
When we were young boys we wanted to be soldiers, policemans, firemans, cowboys. Now boys want to be girls and wear dresses. 🤣🤣
Even Navy SEALs need Heros

POPO MEDIC has a good video on the Army Rangers that got into a gunfight with some Crips in Tacoma.

"You can only talk about doing girls in the butt for so long before you need some adult conversation" 😂😂😂 that sums up most of my Army experience.
Grew up in Seattle area and remeber the ranger vs hill top crip shoot out. Good times
My dad was a green beret 1965. Could still kick my @$$
Hey Coch I was up in your old hood of Pismo - Had a meal at Splash Cafe and the Old Fashion Cinnamon Roll Shop!
I love these talks you guys have. I don't have any old Navy dudes around so if's fun hearing your stories.
I was a PFC in jump school. Never did a thing but run eat prepare for the next day. Details in zero week.

I grew up in the Tacoma area too, went to Stadium High School c/o ‘03. The Old Man was Air Force.
Like you guys stories and attitudes the best !
Nothing like the old T10s to realign that spine.

Im Nam era and it all sounds the same lol. Semper Fortis T-man
I was actually able to work with a legit ranger, he was a cool dude and helped me overcome recoil anticipation over the few months I worked with him
This was good! Love you guys
My father in law was a Ranger, and I had a friend that was a Seal. I learned dlnot to mess with either unless you enjoy pain.😅
Awesome discussion, ty guys!

Looking forward to the MC video Dorr eluded to. (Any stories/interactions with PJ's or USCG MSRT?)

Ranger Tab = anyone whose been through Ranger school
Ranger scroll = someone assigned to Ranger regiment aka a "real" ranger.
Tab is a school, scroll is a way of life!
