Couldn’t agree more! Once I picked up a baritone, it really inspired so many new ideas and sounds when writing. Great video man!
I thought the intro was going to be "Hey you stop playing with yourself".
That would’ve killed me😂😂
That’s what Jesus said 🙂
your videos always feels like hanging out with a good friend and geeking out to guitar gear, which is awesome !
Baritone guitars are really inspiring, not only for metal. There is something in tuning a Standard scale guitar down to B Standard or drop A. The works of Tom gabriel Fischer (celtic frost, tryptikon and hellhammer) are build on an iceman tuned to B and the guy has a huge guitar tone.
The only downside for people like myself is the limitation to those low frequencies. I gravitated towards eight string guitars, not because i want to Show off my skills or be some sort of guitar god but because i just need one guitar for everything. For Sure, i love my 6 string guitar but if i had to choose in terms of practical use for modern styles of music the 8 string baritone is my go to guitar.
What a nice Video ray! I hope you had the Chance to recover a bit from your traumatic experiences. Whish you all the best for your future brother !
Can u drop C on the Baritone guitar?
Awesome clip and guitar, ray 😎🤘🏻🎸 the silver burst finish looks pretty cool. And I see what you mean. I’ve been playing 5-string basses and 7-string guitars exclusively for a long time. Especially since it is inspiring for me to play songs in a drop B tuning. And yeah baritone guitars aren’t oftenly seen a lot, but I can easily see how inspiring they can be. And I’m all about being different and creative. Be as creative as you want to be. Even if it’s with a different instrument.
I have a 7 string I never play.
I got a squire jazzmaster because you made me fall in love with the tone of the pickups.
My next purchase will be a baritone.
Which one I don’t know yet.
😂
It's true, I get excited any time I pick up my baritones to play!!
I love my Schecter c-1 apocalypse baritone. It’s allowed me to play drop tunings without losing clarity. I’m not a fan of 7 strings just because their necks are really thick and awkward, my baritone lets me keep the 6 stings and go into drop G and drop F. So I say for me, it’s my best guitar.
I have one too.....It's Fantastic!!
I love my bari and my 7 string
I bought a jazzmaster a few hours ago thanks to your videos
I just picked up Ibanez axion label baritone with fishman fluence pickups and I love it.
Love your passion, ive never played 1 and never knew about them til your videos,i love the drop tuning chugs and that ,i play guitar to and love creating chunky rythmic riffs, but have a regular scale ltd purple burst guitar, dont get me wrong i love my guitar but heavier gauge strings on it doesnt have the clarity that your talking about, anyway thanks for the inspiring videos and i cant wait to try a baritone out
Baritone guitars are super cool, lots of tension and definition
Get one! Got my first one 15 years ago. Still love to switch it up
Great video man! Did you happen to see that 29" Solar that Ola was playing? Saw it was a flame top silver burst as well....
I just got mine a few days ago. I like it so much, I've been thinking of getting one of those Fender Subsonic necks and converting Sancho the Stratocaster to a bari as well.
I love my baritone! I have an LTD model George Lynch flame baritone. 27 inch scale in G standard.
I have two seven string guitars and I usually go for the baritone first.
I accidentally bought a baritone (Harley Benton Amarok and I put the wrong SKU in the cart). Anyway, I'm glad I got it. The strings feel great (12's) tuned down two whole steps (I'm going to go further to try it out). You also don't get that weird "sag" immediately after you hit a string. Even though the 12's are kind of "heavy" for normal guitar players, they don't feel any different than 10's on the baritone. Baritones are a ton of fun to play - they do have that clarity and they're very inspiring.
" Normal Guitar players " you mean people who can actually play guitar & they dont only play very basic riffs ? Thats what you should be saying . Another bedroom guitarist, its so easy to tell by your stupid comment .Riffs aren't a song did you know that bedroom boy . Reply if you feel so inclined , but I will not read it.
I purposely bought the Amarok baritone and couldn't be happier with it. I have tuned to drop A and it sounds fucking massive through my 6505
already have one, PRS SE 277 baritone. Love it.
"Best Baritone Guitars for price" video next? :)
Just found you out man. Love this. I am now looking for my first baritone guitar. By the way what guitar is that?
Caught my attention immediately with the title. I was like wait, what? Get one, do t get one haha
I love my baritone 7 string!
I need a guitar with p90s first no time for a baritone right now
Solar just announced a 29in baritone with evertune (6 string) . Very tempting for my situation
Once I tried a 7 string, 27 scale I've been hooked. I don't think I can let go of the high string coz I need my weedily weedily shreds, but I still think 27-28 scale length guitars are the best! That low tuning clarity and growl are addicting.
That guitar looks amazing. I appreciate your videos a lot. I want to have a gutiar set up for A Standard tuning. I play primarily metal. I'm not a shredder. I just love heavy and sometimes thrashy riffs. Would you suggest a baritone guitar, or getting a guitar with a 25.5" scale and having it set up for A standard? Thank you.
I have an LTD Viper baritone. The 201B. I installed some sperzels and a het set. I was basically going for a Grynch copy minus the graphics. It’s actually a really solid guitar for the price, but when I got it new whoever set it up at the factory tried to tune it to standard with 12’s. The G string was broken out of the box. Apparently even the people that make them aren’t too familiar with baritones lol.
Love the sales pitch in the beginning lol. Are you high? LOL
For me... 6 string baritone feel weird. It feels as if I am playing a bass. However, I do play a 7string baritone and to me it comes very natural to play.
I don't know why that is the case but I'm glad that Ray is bringing this to the table.
I think it's just an adjustment period thing. My 27" felt huge at first, but I've now got a Gretsch 29.75" and after playing it for a while, the 27" baritone feels normal/easy to play. And plus, now any regular 6 string in a normal tuning feels like butter to play; my Mustang feels like a toy after playing the Gretsch lol
That’s odd. I’m thinking of getting a 6 string baritone in place of a 7 string. Hopefully it doesn’t end up that way for me
Love my 8 string
yes sir, organize a giveaway with some ;)
I have a Reverend Descent too. I felt it didn't work all that well as a baritone, so I set it up for drop-B. I was really not a fan of the SIT strings that were originally designed for it.
You gotta try a 29” baritone from Element guitars. They’re a fairly new brand and offer some cool shapes.
Ray, you’ve got to try an aluminum neck guitar at some point. Aluminum baritone even. There’s just something about it that’s so different and distinct in a way similar to how you talk about baritones. I personally play an acrylic bodied aluminum neck 25.11” scale guitar down in Ab Standard. Even with it not being a baritone, it can just handle the low tuning so well. Clarity and sustain for days. Peace!
Ray have you heard of the builder from Fender that went out on his own and is doing primarily baritones named Carlos Lopez?
First..jk love the vids! Looking to get into baritone instead of extended range.
Hey thanks for hanging! I really appreciate you. Yeah extended range is where it’s at
Honestly idk how I really feel about baritones. I love the sound of them, but I really don't have much use for one. Whenever I need a lower tuning I just use a pitch shifter, however I would like to invest in a baritone 7 string further down the road because i feel like it would be pretty cool to play. I've only played 2 7-strings, and I've never played a baritone, but I love the feel of a 7 string and the sound of a baritone, so I feel like it would be cool to have a baritone 7 string.
I’d say get a baritone simply because it’s more familiar feeling rather than playing an 8 or 9 string but you still get that heavy down tuning,
I just got my first one not too long ago and I’ve been tracking with it almost exclusively
And if someone wants one for cheap just to get a feel I would recommend the subzero paradigm 27 inch scale, I got mine for 300 bucks and it was worth every penny
I use 10-52’s with my guitar now (drop C), if I were to try a baritone, would you recommend a different gauge?
You have a baritone and were you able to tune it to drop C?
U had to change the strings of course
I’m sure you’ve mentioned somewhere but what model is this? Plus, what are your fave makes of baritone?
I have an 8-string guitar. Remove the high and low strings, eyyyy now it’s a baritone. I’m covered. Lol
☝️😬
I’ve seen more than a few eight string guitars that were standard 25.5 fender scale though lol. So not automatically true lol.
Now why the hell would they make a standard scale length eight string? Nobody knows…. But it’s dumb… it’s so dumb.
@@beastlybeast2716 - Good thing mine is a multiscale. Lol. 26 to 27.5. Baritone is not about scale length. It’s the range. E to e is normal. A fourth lower B to b is baritone. Lower than that is considered bass territory.
I got the esp ec 1000 baritone and have had nothing but issues with it in drop A# even after set up.
It’s buzz city.
13-62 should be fine for that tuning and I even tried a 64 on top string.
I might be returning it to replace it with a Jackson pro plus baritone but I dunno. Always been an esp guy.
Thing with those are tho I can’t change tunings as easily as the ec 1000 has the same style of bridge the one in this video does.
Random question what’s the highest you’ve ever tried to tune a baritone and it sound OK.
I know you don’t have to do this on a baritone and I used to do it all the time with standard guitars, but have you ever tried to tune a baritone up to drop C?
I was just wondering if I could get away with that since I have a few songs in that tune and do not want to have to go buy another guitar or borrow one lmao
I have never played a baritone. They seem really interesting . I'm in a rock and Roll band and they seem fun to play and an interesting song writing tool .
Make sure you play one in person first. It could save you alot of money. Baritones are usually a bit pricey and are hard to sell.
@@EXSENTRIX oh yeah for sure. Idk if my guitar center has any in stock, casue it's a whole in the wall. I'm for sure gonna do research
Aye all my Baritone Boiz in the crowd.
Personally I live for my Baritone at this point. In my band we use Baritones for Rythmn, in Drop A. But every lead guitar is a regular scale guitar in the same tuning
Itd be cool if epiphone put out more baritones
I agree with everything point in this video. Baritones have honestly changed the way I play guitar now. Now I refuse to pick up a normal 6 string bc I just get the cocky obnoxious urge to shred (I can’t shred for shit but I personally don’t like when people shred) 🤣
Why did Ray say there’s less strings to worry about when a Baritone still has 6 strings? Am I missing something?
Since the baritone goes to lower ranges most players tend to think of 7 or eight string guitars rather than the scale length. Which is something that honestly doesn’t get talked about enough.
Anyway… if you want to down tune and don’t want a seven or eight string then this might be the guitar you’re looking for. From that perspective it’s less strings.
@@beastlybeast2716 thanks! I figured that’s what he meant, but he made it sound a little like it has one string less lol.
I keep wanting learn how to convert a 25.5” until I get a bonifide baritone someday. Like properly convert. I hope Ray will make a video to show how to do it. Which are the best strings for the job, other mods that can/should be made, etc.
Can anyone tell me the brand of the guitar in this video ?
Only real reason to buy that Reverend you got there is to cover The Devil Wears Prada ✌🏽🥹
Tho here in Peru 🇵🇪 we will have problems with baritones cuz there’s very few string gauge variety and stores don’t sell singles :(
SPEAKING OF BARITONE, SOLAR RELEASED A 29 INCH SCALE 6 STRINGER
Someone should buy my baritone guitar...
Squire vintage modified jazzmaster...
You have less strings to worry about??? Wait, What??
I think he means less than a 7 and still gettin them lows
I still think I like 7 strings are better, It takes a few years to play right…
Quick question for you man: Why do so many baritone guitars come with single coil or any kind of "non-metal" pickups?
Since its a lower pitch, you really don't need the bass of a humbucker.
What is the "standard" tuning for a baritone guitar?
I believe a perfect fourth below standard. A lot of people tune it to where you have a seven string tuning without the high E. But baritones are very cool for tuning experimentation in general as their longer scale length means you can use lighter strings than a standard scale and you can intonate the shit out of it.
Well, that's why i have a multiscale guitar :)
I thought you’d play it, at least.
You definitely don't need to tell me twice
Can I tune a baritone to e standard?
Heavy picking hand? I play like a gorilla. Maybe I should get one, bigger strings and string spacing too should be nice.
weed face strikes again😶
I have one word on why you SHOULD get a baritone guitar... Whitechapel. Go listen to the tone on Our Endless War.
Unsubbed.
Bruh why
