To update everyone here who didn't already know, he's banned now.
Obviously just one match and Harry had bad draws, but interesting to see that MH2 cards dominated and the banned cards outside of probe were hardly relevant.
if Harry had a turn 1 chalice hand on the play, game coulda been pretty different I think! we might have seen Twin come through in that case lol
@@axvd2105 Decklists also are by far not optimized. As they said it was a very spontaneaus thing. I think for example the new affinity lists with mox or kci with saga and stuff could be a real problem

After release of MH2 I doubt that we really can justify that most of the banned cards are still in the ban list xd
Back in the day the mono red deck spashed green and blue for Oko
Now simic Oko decks should splash red for Ragavan
That was a lot of fun to watch. I would like to see more No Ban List games in the future just to see how broken the format really could be if left unregulated.

It was way too much for me. I agree voice over would have been easier to watch, for me at least. I like having interesting lines explained, but not every single decision on the game. Also, having it cut away made it feel somewhere between a reality TV show and trying to watch Crunchy Roll without paying for the service. No offense to the players or anything, just my thoughts.
as someone who doesn't play modern I think the extra detail really helped me understand what was going through their minds and that gave me a lot more entertainment value than if it was just a couple complicated lines being explained or if it was a brief voiceover during the game
@@regular_ian to be clear, I don't suggest the voiceover explanations to be shorter than what they did. I would just prefer a freezed boardstate screen instead of cutaways to people talking, so I can follow what they are saying more easily.

I think the silent MVPs here were the counterspells, a lot of the broken banned cards are a lot less unfair when you have cheaper interaction.
I'd add the pitch elementals to the list as well for how good they are as answers.

Would love to have seen some Uro action, with Mystic Sanctuary, Top, Oko, GitProbe, CCommand, Counterbalance, JTMS, Mental Mistep etc. The artifact angle was cute, but clearly not strong enough. Perhaps next time ask to take a current T1 deck and allow banned cards to improve it as building a deck in 1 hour with no meta is quite hard.
the artifact path is actually really strong. you can T1 oko, and idk if youve watched some vintage with oko, but a t1 oko is devastating.
I've waited a long time for a solid paper modern or pauper gameplay show, came upon this show about a week ago, and I think it's great! Good fun episode too. The end bit was so corny and I loved it haha.

Instead of a no ban list Modern, how about we have a no Modern Horizons 2 Modern, Jesus, the banned cards barely did anything.
Modern horizons destroyed modern. This format has become very expensive in addition of being homogenized by mh1/2 cards.
@@abusus75 except for the vast majority of people that actually play modern think its the most fun/ diverse that its ever been
with the exception of perhaps ragavan, most of mh1/2 opened up new archetypes. in particular the pitch elementals have really interesting gameplay

i would love to see jeskai phoenix or izzet storm in a banless modern video. I think those decks could be extremely fast and fun with some of the banned cards like: gitaxian probe, faithless looting, rite of flame etc

I get that both of these guys are known for playing the kind of decks they came up with here. Still, in a new format, I would go for the fastest combo deck. Unsure whether that's Hogaakvine with Death Rite Shaman, Blazing Infect or Storm, or maybe even KCEggs (I actually think Hypergenesis is quite a safe unban), but I am surely not playing a control deck in an uncertain meta.

I would like to see: No ban list modern VS MH1 and MH2 modern...
So you can play any banned card, even if they are in MH1 or MH2, but none of what we can play today of this sets (no ravagan, no elementals, etc). And the other deck can play "normal modern"..

Looking at the modern banlist, they both probably could have played the good cantrips, like ponder and preodain and the delve big card draw spells, treasure cruise and Dig through time, especially without Merktide in the deck. Expressive Iteration might still be better, though 🤔

The camera transitions seemed like they were upside down from the top down view. I thought when it was panned out that they were in opposite seats every time. It took a while to get used to it but at the start it was very jarring.

i dont get it. how did he cast emry on 7:43 ? he sac the food to produce blue, so emry should cost 2 right?
You are allowed to make mana with mana abilities during casting the spell (as opposed to making mana before casting it). Determining the amount of mana you need to pay happens in CR (comprehensive rules) 601.2f. This happens before actually making the mana, which is in CR 601.2g.
this proves that splinter twin doesnt need to be banned anymore
Really curious how he sacked the treasure for blue and cast the emry for 1 with only 1 artifact in play game 1
The rules on casting spells are as follows: declare the spell, declare costs, pay costs (tapping necessary lands, etc). So when you declare the cost of emry, you count the top AND the food token, even though you're sacking the food token, since sacking the food token is step 3. You can see this demonstrated in MTGO especially.
Would have preferred to see decks built around cards that were never legal... Skullclamp.. Full power affinity.. Full power dredge.. (or some decks that use cards that were banned after a month)

I'm curious. How do you guys record the midgame through process commentary? They sound so in the moment during it. Do you drag them out of the room mid game to give their thoughts, or is it recorded afterward?

Monkey dies to every removal spell ever, that's why it hasn't been banned. It isn't even over represented in the meta game.

Mistepp is a fundamentally broken card, that is why it is banned in every fomat except for Vintage, where it is restricted
Probe + drc is NASTY good lord I’m all for a smaller banlist but one of those has to be/stay banned

This really illustrates to me a thought I've had for a while now. Oko shouldn't have been banned. He's really good, but hardly unbeatable. Infact, he's super easy to play around. WotC just knee-jerk reacted to the card and banned it.

to me, this shows how much bans shoudln't be a thing. I hate bans, this was the most interesting game to watch on your channel so far imo.
The reason for the ban is how it warps the meta. You would only be watching the same deck over and over again at tournaments
Mystic Sanctuary Loop (rip) for days. But i bet no banlist modern could be a real format alongside current modern. I'd play both personally.

Honestly at this point, half of the banlist could be unbanned and Ragavan/DRC/elementals/cascade/EI would still be the best cards in the format. At this point Twin is so far from bannable it's funny, Dig and Cruise are not obviously better to be casting than Murktide Regent, Deathrite would not even the best 1-drop in the format, hypergenesis is just worse than footfalls or living end... Obviously a lot of the cards on the banlist would make the format worse even if they wouldn't be overpowered, but it just goes to show how insane MH2 was.
I have no idea why play Goose over Deathrite Shaman if you are in no-banlist anyway. Seems like a no-brainer upgrade, even counting with the oko-food interaction.

17:49 if you try to float the mana from the saga you lose it on the end of your draw step no? Then how is he playing karn for 4 mana with only 3 lands and none floating? Cardmarket thats 2 missplays already
@@anomalieno27 Both of these plays are legal. Sacing the food is in the cost of paying for the spell meaning Emry has the recduced cost. Urzas Saga triggers in your mainphase not drawstep. None are misplays

You could essentially just play Legacy UW miracles in this format. Jace, Top, Ponder, Preordain, Mystic Sanctuary, and miracles. Mental Misstep, Counterspell, and MH2 cards to interact. Seems good.
