A quick tip; avoid the 1.2 puretech at all costs. The timing belt runs through oil which accelerates wear. This can clog the oil filter and leave you stranded, also possibly with no brakes if you're unlucky. This can happen on cars with as low as 20k miles.

The one you need to really avoid is the VAG 2.0 TDi, some of those have a rubber oil pump belt, no service intervals, at some point it will either break or clog up the oil filter, you can't check it, it doesn't get replaced and if you wanted to do it, be prepared for a very large bill as it's a nightmare to do.

I have a 2018 1.5HDI GT-Line with 46k on the clock which I am about to sell due to a company car coming. I’ve owned it since mid 2021, so 2 years and although it’s a lovely car in terms of looks and interior, it’s had quite a few issues that I don’t think should be present on a car with less than 50k. Mostly electrical issues with the radio not working sometimes, car going into neutral whilst driving at lower speeds even though it’s an auto box. I had an oil leak right at the back of the engine which was costly to repair because of where it was. I came from VW’s and Honda’s beforehand and doubt i’ll ever own another Peugeot. You live and learn though, it’s a lovely car when it’s working fine.

From about 2014 on Peugeot have really come good after a lean period of about 14yrs. I have a 2017 308 GT Line SW and it's been totally reliable, comfortable and good build quality, certainly better than the last BMW 3 series I owned. I think the diesel's are still a good buy 2nd hand and Peugeot have for along time built the best diesel engines. Mine's got the 150bhp diesel and the torque for overtaking is brilliant. I like the little steering wheel but the instruments took a bit of getting used too but after 2yrs driving anything else it driving a HGV!!!
I must admit that when I was driving back from Spain recently through France I was thinking just how smart the current gen of Peugeot look. Especially the black plastic round the reg plate. Looks even bettter with a French plate on imo. Great review!
Fun fact 1.6 puretech engine is used in some BMW's in markets like Turkey India Africa... like the 320I we get the 320 with a 1.6 Peugeot engine and 1.6 puretech is a great engine just with a stage 1 tune in a 508 or a 320i you can get 250 HP or even more
@@Insetta stock 320i is 170 HP And for the Peugeot 508 180 for base spec cars and 225 for GT line 1.6 engine in the 320 already has a great setup in it like the cooling system so even with a stage 1 it will have 250 HP the engine code is "N13B16" for the F30 but in the G20-G30 they use the "B48B16'' N13B16 is the PSA engine aka 1.6 Puretech you guys get the B48B20 and N20B20 in the 320i (just found this in Google you guys did get the N13B16 in the 316i we did get that engine too with 116 HP same as yours but ours came with the turbo in the 320 so 316i can have 250 HP too)
You're right ... my neighbour bought the early 3008 PURELY for the split tailgate versatility ... he's still got it 8 years later and dreading when he parts company.
No interest in buying one, but it's still interesting to know what Peugeot are up to these days. Your videos have a sensible format whether in the market for one or just mildly curious.
I've never been interested in owning a French car but having owned a couple of Saab's I do like quirky. If I was half my age with young kids I would give this car some serious thought. Nice styling inside and out. Good job, Peugeot.
I said I would never get a Peugeot...but I ended up with a Pug 208 Tech edition with a wee 1.2 turbo pumping out 110 bhp .....actually very nippy, smooth and all over pretty good....even has auto parking, love sitting back watching the steering wheel work on its own
These like to go through Top Mounts on the front suspension for some reason. Also, the puretech engines are terrible. But the Diesels tend to suffer from blocked DPF filters. Might be how they are driven. These are also expensive, especially second hand, some of these have fetched just north of 20k. That is Evoque territory.
Had mine almost 6 years from new and had no problems at all. The auto is just superb, well it does come from a racing heritage. Generally average 57 mpg per tank of diesel. Mine has the opening panoramic sunroof and electric tailgate. Trouble is they are almost impossible to get new. Steering wheel is brilliant! You either love it or hate it simple.
@steven moran you seem to have the only 3008 which hasn't had the common issues. Is that a GT line you have? Must have been pricey considering the pan roof and electric tailgate.
6:27 not being picky, but assuming the same Peugeot had twice larger fuel tank, it would not make it anymore less economical overall. It would just add extra ability to cover longer distance on 1 tank of fuel. Likewise, 50% smaller fuel tank would only make cheaper to fill up at the pump, but lots more more pain to live with.
Do this check yourself (I'm a long time subscriber) interestingly, in addition, note your comments at 5 minutes. You are spending more and more time with your eyes off the road lately (do the comparison yourself), you were careful in earlier videos but just take an honest hard look at this one, be careful my boy love your channel to bits, don't want to see you suffer.
Its a decent car and doesnt rob you blind with badge being the only reason you'd buy . This and the 5008 have a style of a evoque with a mix of a lexus RX . Maybe a updated version would come with split taillift or one piece dependant on a button on remote .
The first Peugeot that I ever drove was back in the sixties, a 204 with a column gear change. This was far superior to the similar gear change offered in various Austin/Morris cars and vans. The strangest gear shift was in the NSU RO80, a pressure sensitive micro switch in the gear knob disconnected the drive to let you change gear, but that rotary engine was so unbelievably smooth.
I have had my 1.2 petrol now for 4 years. Car has been faultless apart from a worn seat bolster that was changed FOC despite the car being out of warranty. As for the 130bhp engine. This is the same output as a 2 litre car I once owned
Peugeot hired 2 members from Audi a few years ago. A designer and an engineer. They basically told the firm to change the electrical wiring to create reliability and paid more money for better quality materials. The designer had cart blanch to create something and so far, it's been improving more and more.
You're wrong pal as They started doing Mk2 3008 in 2017 when it becomes European car of the year 2017. I had 3008 on my holiday for 3 weeks and it was such a nice drive! 2l HDI GT model I had. Really nice car
The Grip Control is an optional extra, had it on my first 3008 (the first one out of my local dealers show room), a 150 manual GT Line 2ltr HDI, and it is really good, you need the right tyres on there, so replacing the ones on there with summer tyres really would be shooting yourself in the foot. Sold that 3008 for a GT 180 HDI 3008, lovely car, fully loaded and saved quite a lot from the dealer on it 😊 No grip control on this one but it had pretty much everything else, including the auto box. Sold that and ended up with a hybrid4, lovely car, only had it 10 months, small fuel tank didn't help with the odd long run and the battery range wasn't great in real world driving, it didn't suit my driving but would be great for someone doing more town or shorter distance motorway driving.
I agree with you on the manuals on Peugeot and high clutches, I can remember test driving a year old 2008 with 6,000 miles. I thought the clutch was on its way out. I asked the salesman about about it and said all Peugeots are the same.
Only if it's been Car Horizontal checked ✅. It's very important to do a Car Horizontal check✅ checked in 72 countries MOT stations. One serious question I have about Car Horizontal check ✅ Does it tell you if the car has 4 factory original car mats? And the condition? Thanks.
I love cars like this - premium cars without the premium badge. I've done several thousand miles in a top spec Honda Civic and loved having that quality experience without shouting about it. As opposed to the A Class/1 series/A3 brigade who buy cars for the badge, not the quality. After all, you spend more time experiencing your car than looking at it. And that premium experience is what matters to me.
One day we'll convert you to French cars! I currently have a 2022 Peugeot 208 (having never ever previously thought I would be a Peugeot driver) and it's brilliant. Everyone who has been in it has been seriously impressed and can't believe it's a Peugeot!
You should review a mark 5 Ford Mondeo Vignale. It's by far the most car for the pound. The estate model is ridiculously roomy and looks excellent with its dual exhaust.
I drive a peugeot and have driven lots of things over the years including lorries. I can honestly say I have never thought God I could do with a larger steering wheel.
Hello matt!! Well done on 300,00 thousand subscribers. As one of your long term viewers ive been on this journey with you. Crazy to ssee how far we have come. Nice video matt!
Thanks for this video. Like you, i have been sceptical about French cars for a long time so this video has prompted me to open my mind a little. Love the comment on the 50p steering wheel!
I have both mark I and mark II. When I am using mk 2 I miss split tailgate and when I am driving mk 1 I miss small steering wheel. Both are quiet and comfortable on the motorway, the road type which I am mainly using.
We have a 1.2 puretech gt line 3008. It's absolutely amazing, and the small engine uses very little power, has no problems with motorway with 4 people in and full boot. It's cheap to service, to run and road tax is cheap, and performance with the EAT8 gearbox is also good.
@@S-Ltd1000 In fairness all these highly stressed tiny capacity turbocharged engines are not destined for long lifespans. They are inherently flawed in that regard.
Matt your wrong about the 1.2 three cylinder engine, Iv got the 1.2 GT spec face lift 3008 and its brilliant great on performance and fuel you need to test on you will be surprised
What a lovely looking car. I too see plenty of them over here on the correct side of the Pennines aand I guess they are popular for a reason. They are both stylish inside and out, reasonably frugal and pleasant to drive. Win win all round. Thanks for a great review.
0:16 I'm not a French car fan either, although I did buy TWO brand new Renault Laguna's (long story) and I do like the look of the Pug RCZ but that's where I get off .... wait .... I'd love a Floride / Caravelle.
Thanks for this review Matt, very honest and helpful. I am scouring the market at the moment and prices have outpaced value, so I came across the 3008 and couldn’t believe how much car you could get for not-crazy prices. Then I saw your review so I am now seriously considering this car as 1.6 GT model.
The small steering wheel divides opinion. I have it on a 208 and love it; looking at the instruments over the wheel rather than through it is exactly the sort of quirky French approach to design that I love.
I have just purchased a 2022 3008GT. Made sure I drove it first. I am 6ft tall and my wife is 5ft2" The dealer was 5ft 6". I wanted to see what the argument was all about re the steering wheel. We all got into our driving positions using height adjustment, back & forward adjustment and steering wheel height/length adjustment. Guess what - absolutely no difficulties with any of us - we could all get a comfortable driving position where we could see the instrument panel. It is a issue for people who don't appear to know how to adjust to get a good steering position. The small steering wheel is so easy to use - light - direct. Took me 30 sec to get used to it. @@derekburgess
I am a huge fan of you, but always had to keep a bit quiet as I drive a 2020 5008, having had a Grand Picasso before, so was nervous watching this given your past opinions on French cars ... The interior is stunning, especially at night. I agree about the tailgate being not as good - you can also get rid of the rev counter by changing the mode of the display, you even get a Saab-style night mode (I used to have a 9-3). You do get used to the steering wheel. The seats took 20000 miles to give!!! The 5008 GT line gets the pan roof... I agree about the touchscreen, you have to time it when driving to use this safely. The auto gearbox is superb. The drive is really easy, and actually much more fun than a Skoda equivalent which has less fun steering, I had a Kodiaq on holiday recently. Great balanced review, you are beginning to see what French cars are about, it really has been the best family car for us, and looks so cool, we get lots of compliments, which we would not have got getting a Skoda or Seat..
Great video again, just one point may help you sell, the AGC is non standard, it is a rare option, i tried for weeks to find even one that had it, the Sheffield dealers all said there were few 3008s out there with it. You may want to push this point. Lovely car and great video!
My next door neighbour had a two year old 3008. Kept it for a year and part chopped it because he couldn't live with all the rattles and it failed its first MOT with underbody corrosion (can't be bodywork ... can it?). He now has (since last week) a Volvo XC40 Hybrid .... seriously, we all take note of what he buys so that we can buy something else.
I've driven new Peugeot and it's all true what you said. Can't stand to rely on the touchscreen for climate though. That's too distracting and a no-no to me.
Hi Matt. That stitching really reminds me of the Toyota Rav4 interior. Talking of the Rav4. It's interesting how you have never reviewed one. They are incredibly popular both in the USA and here in Israel. Honestly, you see loads on the road. I don't suppose they are that popular in the UK.
Here in the UK I have a 2013 Rav4 icon Auto, and i love it, there are plenty of them on the roads, but as with most Toyotas here they are seen as a boring, and uninteresting car, I have driven used Toyota cars for many years, and I have never had a mechanical problem with any of them, just an occasional new battery, and in a couple of them new brake pads and discs, and some tires, other than that, nothing. Love them to bits.
@@daneelolivaw602 I live in Israel but have been renting out a Rav4 Hybrid in the UK every year since 2018, to travel from London and drive around Scotland visiting whisky distilleries in the winter weather. For the price, it's the only car I trust to get me up and down those steep icy roads to and from remote distilleries and eats up the miles on the A74(M), M6 / A1(M) to and from London. The huge boot space is perfect for week long trips. I loved the car so much that I bought one here in Israel last year.
A colleague had one as a company car, the biggest annoyance with this car being is sat in the passenger seat; the floating dash really digs into your right leg
I had a 1.2 auto for 5 years and thought it a great car, from my personal view it was too big for my garage, the suspension is quite stiff being a SUV, and I never felt confident at junctions as it was hesitant at pulling away, I also prefer separate temperature controls, apart from that it was comfortable.
You hit the nail on the head. I’m not interested in how a car feels when it’s been thrashed round the Nurburgring. That’s why I like your reviews. I’m interested in how a car drives for everyday use and that’s exactly what you do and it’s impartial. Keep it up
Just drove a brand new one with AWD and...300hp I believe it was. It was comically bad at putting the power down on a wet surface. But no actuall buyer will actually push a car like that. Other than that, pretty nice car, for when you give up on life goals, interiors are really nice these days on Peugeots
I was loaned one of these after my Peugeot 5008 was written off after an accident. Have to say, although initially it was pretty cool, I didn’t love it. Maybe I was just used to the more spacious 5008. I do think Peugeots in general though are rather good cars
This one, and all the other SUV's like the Qashqai, IX35, Sportage etc cannot sit 3 adults comfortably in the back. My family and I spent 2 hours walking around every car in Motor Range, and the overwhelming issue with every car was that 3 tall children could not sit side by side in the back. I've gone with a Grand Scenic because of the 7 seats.
Well check out Matt with the fancy CGI effects at the beginning! You really sneaked that in, would be great to know how many people actually noticed your little effect, you can clearly see that you're getting the hang of this editing lark! 😂😂😂😂 I agree with you about the design of the newer French cars, Peugeot and Renault have some very nice looking cars.

The lean period finished well before 2014. Late 90's to early 2000's was when quality control was not brilliant.
I must admit that when I was driving back from Spain recently through France I was thinking just how smart the current gen of Peugeot look. Especially the black plastic round the reg plate. Looks even bettter with a French plate on imo. Great review!
The seats in the back,
I found we’re really uncomfortable and after just over an hour my back was in bits. I’m 6”2 and found my legs had no support.
Real world review for real world people. You hit the spot again Matt. Hot presenter, hot info, hot channel. We cannot ask for more :)
Fun fact 1.6 puretech engine is used in some BMW's in markets like Turkey India Africa... like the 320I we get the 320 with a 1.6 Peugeot engine and 1.6 puretech is a great engine just with a stage 1 tune in a 508 or a 320i you can get 250 HP or even more
What's the stock hp? 250hp from a stage 1 seems farfetched
I said I would never get a Peugeot...but I ended up with a Pug 208 Tech edition with a wee 1.2 turbo pumping out 110 bhp .....actually very nippy, smooth and all over pretty good....even has auto parking, love sitting back watching the steering wheel work on its own
ye, until the timing belt breaks apart in your engine
@@foolish5551 yeh. The wet belt is in the back of my mind.......but so far. No issues. I will change it at 6 years though
We have a new style 2008 which is very similar to the 3008. Nearly 3 years old now and nothing gone wrong. Very good car.
@@joelbrown2782 And what are the common issues?????
6:27 not being picky, but assuming the same Peugeot had twice larger fuel tank, it would not make it anymore less economical overall. It would just add extra ability to cover longer distance on 1 tank of fuel. Likewise, 50% smaller fuel tank would only make cheaper to fill up at the pump, but lots more more pain to live with.
I always catch on that, its doesnt really matter does it😅
Yeah... With the weather we're getting these days...... the cactus setting sounds really useful.........
300K! So well deserved, fantastic, congratulations Matt. I was a subscriber well before you were at 100k,I won’t be going anywhere.
I hired one in Spain for a couple of weeks and loved it, cracking car. If I were looking to replace my 508sw this would be the one.
Hi Matt good review looks impressive inside as you said steering wheel looks small for the rest of the car 10/10
I just got the little brother the 2008 gt face-lift version in black love how comfy it is
The timing belt issue has been sorted now on the 1.2 engine.Regular oil change is very important on this engine.
Sold that 3008 for a GT 180 HDI 3008, lovely car, fully loaded and saved quite a lot from the dealer on it 😊
No grip control on this one but it had pretty much everything else, including the auto box.
Sold that and ended up with a hybrid4, lovely car, only had it 10 months, small fuel tank didn't help with the odd long run and the battery range wasn't great in real world driving, it didn't suit my driving but would be great for someone doing more town or shorter distance motorway driving.
Great to see 300,000 subscribers! And counting!! Well deserved…
I love the 3008 . My buddy is in the police said they have had nothing with problems with the fleet though. Unreliable as hell.
We have a Peugeot 208 GT Line as a company pool car and it’s a brilliant drive apart from the small steering wheel and it feels like it’s in your lap.
One serious question I have about Car Horizontal check ✅
Does it tell you if the car has 4 factory original car mats? And the condition?
Thanks.
It's does, also reports on what it smells like 😂
@@MichalSposki
This is why Car Horizontal is the best!
That engine was not designed with longevity in mind, it's a ticking time bomb.
Reading your comment and then the comment above about avoid the 1.2 at all costs
@@Insetta It's good for my familiy, since we drive so little.
@@S-Ltd1000 Not if you drive s little as we do.
Well done Matt on reaching 300k subscribers. You deserve it !!!
The small steering wheel divides opinion. I have it on a 208 and love it; looking at the instruments over the wheel rather than through it is exactly the sort of quirky French approach to design that I love.
That's a good point. I have to choose which bit of the dash I want to see when I move the steering wheel up and down.
Then you do not have the correct seating position.@@derekburgess
@@allanbriggs9007 I’ll have another go.
I tend to set the speed limiter in practice.
The buttons in a Peugeot are great - they all work for at least three months from new. Well, on a good run that is
That is just nonsense.
Nice graphics on 15 seconds; having the make of the car on the road.
Good review as always.
I particularly liked your 3008 review because I’m thinking of getting one on the mobility scheme.
Cheers Matt.
Congrats on 300k. Well done you!!
I've driven new Peugeot and it's all true what you said. Can't stand to rely on the touchscreen for climate though. That's too distracting and a no-no to me.
fantastic car ive got the1.5 diesel engine 130 bhp its great.
Wife misses the split tailgate on her 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander. It was a handy feature.
Hi Matt. That stitching really reminds me of the Toyota Rav4 interior. Talking of the Rav4. It's interesting how you have never reviewed one. They are incredibly popular both in the USA and here in Israel. Honestly, you see loads on the road. I don't suppose they are that popular in the UK.
I have the 2019 RAV4, best car I ever had ❤
I loved the car so much that I bought one here in Israel last year.
i just purchased a 1.6 blue hdi auto Allure 3008 get it serviced regularly should have no problem with it great to drive
I’ve had the same model for nearly 5 years bought new. Never given me any problems. Love the interior and especially the small steering wheel.
In the last 5 yrs or so Peugeot have really knocked it out of the park with there styling.
A colleague had one as a company car, the biggest annoyance with this car being is sat in the passenger seat; the floating dash really digs into your right leg
the automatic gearbox comes from toyota aisin so that should be reliable. i also like the vauxhall grandland x which this car is based on
Other way around. The Opel / Vauxhall cars are based on Peugeot.
@@richardsheil5289 yeah I know that
Excellent stuff as per Matt 👌
I’ll give you a hug bro when you feel vulnerable
I had a 1.2 auto for 5 years and thought it a great car, from my personal view it was too big for my garage, the suspension is quite stiff being a SUV, and I never felt confident at junctions as it was hesitant at pulling away, I also prefer separate temperature controls, apart from that it was comfortable.
You should try and get hold of a new 308. Brilliant piece of kit that.
Totally agree with your comment on the steering wheel.
Totally agree with you a nice car and it looks comfortable too 😊
This one, and all the other SUV's like the Qashqai, IX35, Sportage etc cannot sit 3 adults comfortably in the back.
My family and I spent 2 hours walking around every car in Motor Range, and the overwhelming issue with every car was that 3 tall children could not sit side by side in the back.
I've gone with a Grand Scenic because of the 7 seats.
Just bought one of these, mostly pleased although finding seats uncomfortable, hoping if get a cushion coer will improve
Not really a french car fan but ive always like the 3008 mk2, in a good spec like this one they look quite smart
Hi mate, I've had a Peugeot 3008 for 4 years and now have a 5008, as an old SAAB owner, I can honestly say that I have had no problems with the 3008 or 5008, I've had the manual and now have the Auto my verdict so far a very good car,
Rented one in Ireland and loved it!
