  • Normally I would post these over weeks and analyze each to death. Instead, just as last time in Part 1, this is compilation to show the similarities between throws in both shot put and discus.
Last time I showed throwers who use a longer right foot pick up and twist the feet together out of the back.
Here is shown what would be called an early right foot pick style. One where the right foot leads the throw. This style has the athlete wind and hold the X and then maintain virtually the same relationship between the feet the whole throw. The arms stay stretched out long as well. Ideally with forming 90° angles from the torso.
The left foot begins the the first turn by twisting and pushing the left heel around low. The left knee is over the toe and the left shoulder is over the knee hinged at the hips. The right foot picks up early and sweeps around wide, bent, and leading with instep (leg in external rotation).
The athletes with the most patience will turn the the left foot all the way round till it points down the left sector line before moving forward. This allows the hips/center of mass/gravity to be fully over the left foot and the hips pointing in the direction they need to go. Just as you would sprinting, you must be facing the direction you need to go, to go there quickly.
The right foot is over the middle of the circle when they push off the left leg. Typically and ideally the left knee never straitens out. The right foot lands somewhere between 270° and 0°. The thighs squeeze together, both knees bent, and the X is held. The hit the “Wall Drill” position and hold that till they land the left foot.
As the left foot comes down the right foot begins to turn. Ideally the right foot turns all they way to the direction of the throw before any pushing from the foot, knee, or hip begins. The left leg then straightens as they push, the block is held, and right arm rips through the finish.
