i have to say after watching this video before state, i felt better and PRed by three feet and took third, i have to say thank you to whoever put this together, good job.
I've been watching this video for 3 yrs. and just recently decided to watch it again for the first time in 6 months. It is definitely not the same without "Crazy Train". Someone explain to Ozzie how much the music adds to the intensity it takes to learn the technique of catching the air just right with a perfect whipping discus throw and have it sail off and touch a place you've never been able to reach.
You do realize that ozzy has probably never even heard of this video, right? It might have been the record company that ozzy is contracted to but it was most likely just youtube.
AdRenteria You're right, Ozzy Osbourne must have sat down on youtube saw this video with crazy train on it and called youtube to take it down. Then 6 or so months later changed his mind and called them up again to put it back up. That's totally what happened.
First year thrower in high school. Just made varsity and have to compete tomorrow at my first ever invitational. Not ready to spin just yet but very excited and nervous
fairplay these guys are awesome i'm 15, i can throw 106 ft with out spin and im the best in my county ( i live in wales, uk by the way) its good to see people who are enthusiastic about discus. cant wait till beijing!!!
I saw Mac Wilikins in person last summer.... his leg is so destroyed from roids, but i still have huge respects for him as a thrower. Im glad he coached during that all-comer meet :)
finally somebody that is not lying!:D im a junior now but when i was a sophomore my pr was 92.10 feet. No i work out and iv gotten bigger. so now im hoping to throw 115
Now if you were to list the throwers that had the most grace/ideal technique, hands down #1 Wolfgang Schmidt #2 Jurgen Schult #3 Mac Wilkins (if nothing else but for his blocking action with that hair!). Nice list, maybe slightly debatable if you are talking about overall success. I still think it's amazing that Alekna came so close to Schult's record and could never quite get there (especially because Schult came from the east german program).
I am so glad the song is back. Women, men, girls and boys share one thing in common. Everyone prepares for a challenge. Within those preparations everyone gets on the "Crazy Train" where you're so goddamn tired, you're so goddamn sleepy you don't want to train. But as any athlete knows you here a good inspirational song and you're making good for another hour. This is what "Crazy Train" is for discus throwers. Thanks Ozzie or whomever made this possible again.
Discus is the kind of track and field sport I really enjoy. I'm ranked first in my discus throw for 8th grade girl's throwers and I think it's a great event that everyone can be apart of if not track... great video they need to show the discus throw in the olympics :)
I'm a freshman and I throw around 115's and 120 for my pr and I got invited to post season Midd penn championship this Saturday I'm ranked 33 out of 40 in the area I'm pretty excited.
Great video. I love how every thrower has their own unique technique. It's what works for you. From 7th to 10th grade I learned the textbook techniques and only PR'd at 142-09 in middle school and 136-06 in high school up until this season when I said fuck it and learned my own. As a junior I've PR'd at 167-09 milesplit me. Duke Taylor from east canton Ohio
GERD KANTER has improved in the space of one season and since the making of this video from #7 at 229'2'' average ,all the way up to #2 with an average throw of over 231 feet...amazing! but beating ALEKNA head to head will be the real test...
God the foot work on these guys is just freaking GORGEOUS. Pure art. I ended up using a block release in college. Wish i had gotten the spin release down, its just beautiful when done right.
I met Alekna 1.5 week ago, but he only threw 62m then :( But ok, he's getting older and his best days are done. I'm still very happy for him that he's throwing! :)
something i've learned of all the truly best throwers like Luis Delis and Brian Oldfield and Randy Barnes is that they never brag about their distances to total strangers and they are very modest when not at competion. nobody likes to hear your distance unless they are competing against you.
How did you calculating the average? Top 10 throws? Top 10 meets? Something else? Or every single best throw they ever threw in a competition averaged? Or average of best throws during a 5-year window, a peak, a prime? Thanks.
@throwingchamp611 that just gives us more to work for. at my junior high i have gotten a lot of people to care about throwing, even people who dont do track. I'm second in the nation and people all think that is really cool so they go and watch my videos. If it wasn't for me they wouldn't even be watching track at all.
Seriously, my top two favs for technique are #1 - Gerd Kanter, and #2 - Luis Delis. Training my daughter but unfortunately at 7th grade, they all have to be Kanters'. Speed and release is everything when you're a short thrower. Whip it and bring that leg over.
i compete football and track(discus): Bench : 225 Squat : 270 PClean: 140 Incline: 200. My friend competes soccer and track(discus and shot) Bench: 170 Squat: 315 Pclean: 100 Incline: 140 He throws shot 42 ft and discus 99 ft I throw shot 34 ft and discus 115 from the power position. Obviously, I have some work to do in something. My coaches keep saying I should do more sit-ups for speed at my core and to drive my hip before punching my arm. Of course, we are not the best in the school.
I would kill to be competing again. Graduated college 2 years ago. Don't be fooled that this sport is for big athletes only, I'm 5'10 and threw 177'3" (54.04). Work your ass off on technique, strength comes second.
@leutenantdan58 i use the stingray grip i put my middle and index fingers together you get so much more power out of it. well more than any others i have tried
point well taken , however the problem in the discus is someone like Schult who is a great thrower but has a best throw that is largely because of the wind, while the rest of his throws are far below...so there is a web site I found that put thier top 10 throws to average and these are the results, so not just one big wind and one big throw but lots of big throws shows who is really the best....shot put obviously doesn't have any wind advantage so it is not needed.
iv been throwing a rubber disc this off season that has a couple knicks in it some are pretty big...im throwing 110-116 but does anyone know hom much the distance is affected by the condition of my disc?
@kersitie im in 9th grade and i'm second in the nation for discus and my team has won track meets because we have a great field team. Everyone cares about field events.
This year wasnt too shabby, Freshman, i have undoubtly the hardest sectional in the state of indiana, wus ranked 12th over all or something like that and placed 2nd xD, threw a 133'7", sucky thing is i threw a 112 in regionals, and wus throwing an ez 140+ in warm ups, i was sooo pissed at myself
I have never thrown before and im a junior in highschool. Im joining the track team this year as a thrower, but im not sure which event to throw, shot put or discus. What would you guys recommend for someone who has zero prior experience?
A lot in the technique, I was one of the smaller guys throwing discus, but my technique was perfect which allowed me to compete. When I say smaller, I mean 5'7-8", 135-140 pounds. Once your technique is down you will see quite a bit of improvement.
@BryanIsAsian Practice the release by rolling the discus or rolling it into the air straight up and then if you practice that enough, you'll have the release down
Im 14 years old and a freshman. im 6'1" 155 lbs and i throw a 1.6k 92 feet. i would like to throw 165 by the end of my time in highschool. any tips or ideas to throw better please?
@izallskilfoo when u go to release ur throw what u want to do is release it down ur fingers from ur pinky to ur index i find that works best for me, see the spin is a great portion of throwing disc, when it spins it creats an air pocket around it which is like a platform for it to fly on the air on so more spin bigger pocket better air time, just using one finger wont get the fast enough spin u want, use all your fingers minus ur thumb obviously
Everyone has their thing....and people don't have to be so rude - _ - It's not the best, but you tried your best, and that's all the matters!!!:3 Great job, I don't think I'll make it that far!!!^^
When you come out of the back of the ring your supposed to have both feet off the ground leading with your right if right handed "jumping" toward the front?
okay, so im a freshman girl, i throw about 110 standing. im going to regionals may 1 at waco baylor. but like, any tips on my spin? i only throw like 107 with that.
LOL all of these guys have an Average over 69.5 an Average which would win at basically any competition... jurgen may not have thrown over 71 that much, but it is still pretty amazing.
i have to say after watching this video before state, i felt better and PRed by three feet and took third, i have to say thank you to whoever put this together, good job.

First year thrower in high school. Just made varsity and have to compete tomorrow at my first ever invitational. Not ready to spin just yet but very excited and nervous
that's the same thing that is happening to me but i am learning how to spin
I'm going to give it a try at our Dual Meet tomorrow.
Im a freshman in ny and just started in the spring season and can already throw 95 in disc spinning and 30 in shot punching
im a freshman and made varsity just started to learn how to spin and threw 103 and in javelin i threw 135
@Stepupgamer I'm in 8th grade not muscular at all and I throw 95
Its an outrage that Ricky Bruch isn't on here. He had an average from a 21 meet stretch of 69 meters! the man was a beast
fairplay these guys are awesome
i'm 15, i can throw 106 ft with out spin and im the best in my county ( i live in wales, uk by the way)

cant wait till beijing!!!

VIRGINIJUS ALEKNA - Lithuanians are very proud of him .He is the best from the bests discus throwers in the world :) May God bless him :)
MAC WILKINS !!
Speed & power in the scale, but also great footwork and finesse in the ring
finally somebody that is not lying!:D
im a junior now but when i was a sophomore my pr was 92.10 feet. No i work out and iv gotten bigger. so now im hoping to throw 115

Can we get a John Powell in there

Powell was further down the list I went off of...I was surprised too. John was almost automatic at 220 feet. I think he was 12th or 13th.
GERD KANTER has improved in the space of one season and since the making of this video from #7 at 229'2'' average ,all the way up to #2 with an average throw of over 231 feet...amazing! but beating ALEKNA head to head will be the real test...

Do you have 77 metres ?
song is CRAZY TRAIN by OZZY OZZBORNE...Randy Rhodes on guitar
I met Alekna 1.5 week ago, but he only threw 62m then :( But ok, he's getting older and his best days are done. I'm still very happy for him that he's throwing! :)
I love track and field events. all of them. I fucking love when these guys scream. It is pure energy and brute strength. Hell yes!
my pr is 105, i really want to improve, this is my first year. i love discus, i have so much respect for these guys.
Fazekas is extremely explosive
something i've learned of all the truly best throwers like Luis Delis and Brian Oldfield and Randy Barnes is that they never brag about their distances to total strangers and they are very modest when not at competion. nobody likes to hear your distance unless they are competing against you.
Wow....#3 at 3:47 was just amazing to watch.
the black guy's motions were so fluid and graceful
How did you calculating the average? Top 10 throws? Top 10 meets? Something else? Or every single best throw they ever threw in a competition averaged? Or average of best throws during a 5-year window, a peak, a prime? Thanks.
Great edit man.. I really like how #8 and #4 actually block down, no rotation.. just badass it like theyre throwing a javelin
wootwoot go me for having our schools record for 3 years :D
Kanter is so young, and have achieved many titles. He IS the worlds greatest.
I'm going to BC Summer games for discus. Watching some professionals form really helps.
@throwingchamp611 that just gives us more to work for. at my junior high i have gotten a lot of people to care about throwing, even people who dont do track. I'm second in the nation and people all think that is really cool so they go and watch my videos. If it wasn't for me they wouldn't even be watching track at all.
i threw 152 my 8th grade year..conference champ yo..i wrestle and play football and discus is my favorite outta the 3.
Seriously, my top two favs for technique are #1 - Gerd Kanter, and #2 - Luis Delis. Training my daughter but unfortunately at 7th grade, they all have to be Kanters'. Speed and release is everything when you're a short thrower.
Whip it and bring that leg over.
i compete football and track(discus):

Jordan Kukal well done my friend.
Ahhh these guys are so fast! So much different from a lot of high school and college athletes i've seen.
@leutenantdan58 i use the stingray grip i put my middle and index fingers together you get so much more power out of it. well more than any others i have tried
Nice video keep them coming.

So beautiful to watch that. So powerful and technic gesture. I love that and my best throw at 50,90m is so far from this... 😅
@tiffann48 yea and feild event performers are actually proven to be amazing athletes alltogether!
Lars Riedel, the best ever. Outstanding technique.
iv been throwing a rubber disc this off season that has a couple knicks in it some are pretty big...im throwing 110-116 but does anyone know hom much the distance is affected by the condition of my disc?
Thanks for posting!
He has a great transfer of energy to the discus because of his non-reverse technique, as well as great separation at the front of the ring
Alekna, LEGENDA!
yeah:P
now is Gerd Kanter number 1:P
the king of discus thrower :)
Today he won olympic gold medal:P
Kanters speed was amazing ! 🛸

i love delis' style. its the way i have always thrown

This video helps when im stuggling on my technique! thanks !
I would not be want to be the guy measuring for multiple reasons
Hey is a 140 ft. standing power throw good for a highschooler and a 170 ft. spin, still working on the spin though, just need feedback
I have never thrown before and im a junior in highschool. Im joining the track team this year as a thrower, but im not sure which event to throw, shot put or discus. What would you guys recommend for someone who has zero prior experience?
omg that netless ring is a total SAFETY HAZARD!!!
good stuff. can you get more slow motion videos? easier to use when teaching my students
ill be there soon.... im 16 PR 125'5" increasing my pr by a few feet per week couple weeks for the last 4 months
A lot in the technique, I was one of the smaller guys throwing discus, but my technique was perfect which allowed me to compete.

AWSOME VIDEO!!!!
Im 14 years old and a freshman. im 6'1" 155 lbs and i throw a 1.6k 92 feet. i would like to throw 165 by the end of my time in highschool. any tips or ideas to throw better please?
CRAZY TRAIN AND DISCUS FTW!!!!
their south african formation is just so perfect.
@QwinandKell i have been throwing for a year and im roughly a year younger and i was hiting 30 when i started
@chika985 oh the spins make so much difference from power to half spin i can add about 6ft to my throw
@izallskilfoo when u go to release ur throw what u want to do is release it down ur fingers from ur pinky to ur index i find that works best for me, see the spin is a great portion of throwing disc, when it spins it creats an air pocket around it which is like a platform for it to fly on the air on so more spin bigger pocket better air time, just using one finger wont get the fast enough spin u want, use all your fingers minus ur thumb obviously
how long have you been throwing and what technique doyou use? i'm in 9th grade in my first year of track and i standing throw 90
how long across is the circle and how heavy is the discus?
How many throws were used to get thier average?
Thanks for the interesting advise
what types of lifts increase your discus throw?
Marius Pudzianowski tau disko metikas? Labai įdomu... Gal tu pasiskaityk komentarus prieš komentuodamas pats, protinguoli. Gėdos darytojas mat..
This is my first year of track and I throw discus 112'9 standing.
@MaxKarch shot..it is eaiser to learn the glide move over the discus spin
hey can n e 1 spair some tips on how to spin with the disuc?
the first song is let's go by lil jon.
for anyone who wants.
I still don't get how you can throw without the reverse...just doesnt make sense to me.
Great video
one day im gonna be one of these guys disc is the best!
kanters form is outstanding!
i agree with with 100% schult should be at 4th or 3rd such as riedel. though, alekna definetly #1.
damn dude you could get in to state some day if you keep throwing through out high school and college and stuff. good luck on it!
These guys are the best in real terms, but for his time, and in terms of dominating competition, Al Oerter was best.
after one year this video was posted then Gerd Kanter came the worlds best discus thrower at the Bejing olympic games
i love discus its my fav event. my best is 70.8 for girls
in 7th grade throw 2 million feet with a 2kg. good or bad?
That's terrible. I got 3 million ft with a 100k shot put
+Patient Zero I got 700 million in fourth grade
Everyone has their thing....and people don't have to be so rude - _ -
It's not the best, but you tried your best, and that's all the matters!!!:3 Great job, I don't think I'll make it that far!!!^^
+Faze Rai dude I was in the womb and I threw 95 trillion with a 3 tril kg
Well, with a 1.79 nonillion kilogram disc I through one foot, just because it circled the earth so many times that it landed right in front of me
Niceeeeee,virginius alekna in 1st place,wow,I'm from lithuania :D
i think its believable because i threw 124 feet once when i was 14 to qualify to the Irish championships
what is a good brand fer discus beside nelco im an expierienced thrower
The legend is Ricky Bruch!
When you come out of the back of the ring your supposed to have both feet off the ground leading with your right if right handed "jumping" toward the front?
that is very good aswell :) and the wind can matter alot in discus, so I guess you had good wind on your 58m throw :)
okay, so im a freshman girl, i throw about 110 standing. im going to regionals may 1 at waco baylor. but like, any tips on my spin? i only throw like 107 with that.
whats the song called?
hey are rubber discuses good?
LOL all of these guys have an Average over 69.5 an Average which would win at basically any competition... jurgen may not have thrown over 71 that much, but it is still pretty amazing.
@PassRusher74 whats wrong with shot put? i do both
GREAT MUSIC CHOICE!!!
