    Excellent video - I wanted to comment regarding Obama representing black America the same way Trump represents white America. Idk if it was a source you used in your essay, but Ta-Nehisi Coates wrote a piece for the Atlantic titled "My President Was Black" in 2017. It analyzed the the way Obama had to navigate being many different kinds of symbols. The essay both regards him as both unrepresentative of the "main" narrative of African Americans (born in Hawaii, father from Kenya, raised around his mother's family etc) while also becoming representative of it through his life journey. I think comparing him to Trump in this way is doubly fascinating: Trump himself is unrepresentative of the "main" narrative of white America (born/lived wealth) while also representing some of white America's deepest desires (wealth, a sort of immunity to governmental limitations).

      I was in a “mock trial” in summer camp while the trial was still going on, we picked the one Asian kid to be the Judge and of course a Black kid for OJ. We found OJ guilty, I played the prosecution. I’ll never forget it. I was going in the 4th grade, I was 9. It was 100% inappropriate to have a bunch of under 11 year olds play act a murder trial.

    The juice is loose, the juice is loose 😂
    My 5th grade teacher had us sitting in class watching the trial. I couldn't believe it and didn't understand why it was so important. I grew up in the projects and people died there all the time. My father was killed in the hood and nobody made a national case out of it. It pissed me off. The day his verdict was given so many teachers(white) were upset they walked out of the classrooms to complain, cry, etc. The rest of the school qas completely silent. It's like they never considered how their actions would effect a school full of young minorities. I've been questioning america ever since. Wtf did OJ have to do with my 5th grade education? They made it a race issue and I'll never forget that

      Bro, I remember as a senior in high school there was this white kid who got shot, in his chest, with a shotgun while skipping school. Teachers and student were given time off to "cope" with the loss. Same year, a few months apart, a black wrestling died while being black. Nothing. Don't be suprised.

    What frustrates me about Dave Chappelle is that he understands from a moral perspective, a materialist perspective, and personal experience what it is like to be an other in America.
    (I would even say that being black is the gold standard of being an "OTHER" in the United States.)
    Why would he give way to the same reactionary thought process that is used over and over again in this cycle to otherize and push down black people. Then turn around and use it against an even smaller even more insignificant marginalized community that is trans people.
    Like am I missing something?

    • @OneFootNFront
      @OneFootNFront 11 місяців тому +6

      For some people, regardless of their marginalization, they only seek some kind of power in the structure. With great cognitive dissonance, he found it.

      Dave Chappelle is transphobic and he knows it. He never once claimed he wasn't, and the honesty is what made him popular. However, his transphobia is as the name implies; a phobia. He doesn't hate trans people but is AFRAID of them. Many times, he told about his experience meeting with actual trans people and it's usually positive.
      My favourite happens to be the one where he danced with a transwoman and when it was revealed, he asked why she didn't tell him, knowing his biases were like, and she told him that it's because he was happy dancing with her. So they ended up continuing the night, dancing and enjoying themselves. That's Dave Chappelle.

    I have been entertaining a thought about truth for some time. reconciliation is the end result of truth. When two sides find truth, reconciliation is one of the best fruits they reap from their efforts to learn truth. I see that idea in full colour in your work. Man. You're a JRR Tolkien of our time, telling the story of Babylon in a way that exposes its ugliness, and emptiness and pointing us back to the Holy City. Hands down. You will see great success. Your work will heal our world. Keep going!!!

    Pretty well put.
    After any action/event follows an equally if not larger reaction no matter how ‘good’ or ‘bad’ the event was, and The US hasn’t really changed outside of outside appearance and some laws. Only real difference between today and the early to late 20th century is that now Every rich person can avoid repercussion for their actions instead of merely “the whites”.
    Aka. Equality for the rich and fuck the poor.
    Hope I interpreted the video correctly. (Btw. You def. deserve more views/subscribers - if this is the general quality of videos you put out)

    I remember walking with my mother on the corner of Main Street & Clinton Avenue and seeing the picture of O.J. trying unsuccessfully to put on one of the infamous bloody gloves on the front page of the local newspaper. I looked to my mother, and said, "Mom, they might as well let him go right now." That was roughly two months before the verdict was read. While I felt some sort of vindication that I correctly predicted that he would get off, I wasn't as stoked as a lot of my fellow brothers and sisters were. The way I saw it, Simpson wasn't acquitted because he was Black, because he was a Buffalo Bill, or even because he was rich. He was acquitted because there simply wasn't enough damning evidence to quell the reasonable doubts that Cochran and them raised. Of course, it didn't help that Mark Furhman was an unprofessional shithead and Kato Kaelin was a slacker with the worst case of C.R.S. this side of the guy from Memento.
