●Ontario Rat 1 (US) ●MKM Makro (Italy) ●Opinel 12 (France) Thanks for another great episode. I love seeing old favorites as well as NEW favorites! Your knife videos are the best on the internet.
I have the VG10 and k390 Endelas and they’re both beautiful. VG10 is great simply because it’s so user-friendly and easy to maintain. K390 shines in that it will sharpen to an unbelievable extent…the edge aggression you can achieve is unbelievable and it’ll maintain that front end aggression for a while. Aside from that, it’s all about what level of stainlessness you’re looking for.
Always entertaining when DCA & Thomas exchange views. Could you do a vid on what Knife Center staff carry when they're at home on the weekends? & what is their multitool of choice? etc. Cheers guys for a very informative show. Greetings from Australia.
Hey DCA, how about a video on handle materials and their pros and cons? G10, wood, micarta, steel, aluminum, titanium, carbon fiber, zirconium, horn, bone, etc etc ...
I voted Hogue. I figured the concept of a side opening auto is a little silly even though I have one. The difference between pushing a button to spring it open vs a flipper tab isn't significant, but autos have more moving parts to break, get dirty and gummed up, plus you pay a premium for the button over the flipper tab. If I wanted to buy another auto I'd go OTF but they are all so pricey, so I'd want to baby it. It's hard to justify a $400 toy that cuts cardboard when my other knives do too.
I like sleek knives with simple lines. I think the Rockwall is a beautiful knife with it’s elegant lines. A little pricey for me but would definitely fit in my collection.
Love my RAT 1. Fills my hand perfectly, super comfortable, carries "small" for a full size knife. Not beautiful, but it's what I immediately think of when someone says "picture a pocket knife" and they just work.
The KC exclusive Endela is beautiful. I love the way the HAP-40 patinas while the jacketing steel remains pristine. It all just looks so cool against those wood scales. It's a winner even for somebody as corrosion averse as I am.
Haha yes! Thank you so much for answering my question david! Not gonna lie I’ve been eye balling the archaeo for awhile now that and the mini sheepdog slipjoint you showed us a couple weeks back.
I've been watching your videos Dave, since you started, I'm really old school, I'm a lot older than you, that said, my favorite folder of all time is the Microtech Amphibian,I bought both the manual and the Auto when they first came out and STILL ,they are both my favorite folders of all time, check em out
I bought a Pakkawood Endela from you guys and it quickly became my “go-to” knife. it’s classy, but tough. My only regret is not also buying the endura or dragonfly while they were still available.
I was watching the video and my 7-year-old heard and said is that DCA. I had to laugh🤣 maybe I watch too much knifetube. "The knife that is last on the list is first in the pocket" . . . . - Genius
I own Spydercos and Benchmades, but I've been carrying a Rat 1 for at least 5 years. Great knife and if I loose it or break it I won't be crying. Plus they can be had in D2 now. Even better.
Hey DCA! I think you should randomly do movie/comic book/cartoon characters… “What knife would_____ carry?” Could do a whole segment or just put a bunch of names in the proverbial had and pick one a week.
I’m asking it again because it sounds like a great show. If DCA and crew took a long bushcraft / camping weekend, what cutting tools would they take for camp craft, whittling, fire craft, cooking, etc? We all know the world wants to see it happen. A bushcraft weekend as part of your in depth knowledge, research, and education.
Hello DCA. i have recently bought Civivi Elementum, and i was absolutely blown away by the presentation. Loved the pouch and the microfiber cloth included with the knife. Could you show one knife with the best presentation under 100 and one with no limit?
Happy Saturday Noris1, the Civivi Elementum is my favorite Civivi of the 3 that I own, the others are the Badlands Vagabond & the Ortis . They put the overpriced knives that David is reviewing here to shame, not one is worth more than $50
@@arrowheadguys7637 I don't personally own a Kizer but packaging is not for me an important point for determining if a knife is worth the money or not.
Hi There DCA, I recently found a way to transform Spyderco and cold steel back locking knives in to slip joints. That’s the way i role my EDC knife. Great video! Have fun! Bye
For the fixed blade moving knife, something like the CKRT S.P.E.W. Small, easy to pocket/belt carry, and cheap enough that when you can't find it.... And DCA, my EDC auto is a Boker Strike (Tanto) in D2.
Totally thought you were going CLA. BTW Excellent point about the Closing the hogue with the index finger. I could definitely see myself using that method a lot.
Hap40 is closer to K390 than you think. It is very similar in structure to Rex 45 (some call it an analog but I don't think they are identical) and Rex 45 is in the same class for edge retention as K390. Outpost 76 does pretty good testing on all these steels and they are too close to call, I love Rex 45 (Hap40) and K390. I own several knives in both steels and I've never had to sharpen either of them so what testing were you getting the difference in edge retention for the two steels?
Hey DCA. I have a question for you. What kind of stone do you recommend that can sharpen almost every steel (specially budget steels). Thanks! Great content in the channel by the way.
Hey DCA, i have been waiting for the mkm makro since february and it finally released! I am almost ready to pull the trigger on the wharncliffe version, however i would actually like to see a comparison with the boker ak1, mainly in the grip comfort and blade geometry departments. Keeping in mind that money IS a factor which would you recommend?
My MKM just arrived this morning. I would recommend it over my Böker AK1. The MKM hast this famous "reverse Tanto Wharmcliff" which I love. Böker has the nicer, classical wood handle. MKM is just "only" micarta. MKM has this "soft" magnetic sheeth, Böker AK1 has the scratchy metal util clip. The util clip is quite scratchy, but secure for a camping side. The MKM magnetic sheeth is very easily magnetic attached, but can easily get lost while you are climbing a tree, Maybe. I got the MKM 4 hours ago and vote for the MKM. Boker is slightly more expensive. But it is not over priced. You get some value for the money. (Better screws; wood handle, ...)
I voted for the hogue because I too think it's the best one. That blade shape, and hogue knives have proven to me to be of great quality. Great choice.
Marv Thomas -I can't speak to the Knifecenter Exclusive with Hap40 (although all of the Hap40 I've seen is superb) I have the Endura with K390. Neither plain nor fancy words can express how excellent this blade steel is. It's still on the factory edge, and the blade is still almost sharp enough to split a Hydrogen atom. Edge holding on this is unreal. I'm excited to hear Bohler has a new steel coming out, K490 which has even more blade toughness, but the K390 is already tough as hell, and I believe this thing holds an edge better than S110V (might be because S110V may have tiny chips on the edge.) I whole-heartedly recommend the K390 blade.
Seeing the video title, I thought we were getting a look at a new Nordsmith design. I FEEL CHEATED! 🤣Between the KUF and a Makro, I think no food prep task would be insurmountable. Thanks for the KniFAQ, DCA and the KC Crew! Have a crazy weekend!
DCA- Per one of your previous recommendations, I recently purchased a Spyderco Dragonfly 2 Salt and have enjoyed it. Any recommendations for another environmentally resistant, hard use folder at a lower price point? Thanks!
Hi DCA! I'm a big fan of fixed blade knives. I was wondering what are some of the best or complete sheath package/setups that you have seen come across the shelves at the KnifeCenter?
Hi Davey c a, personally I thought it was obvious you were going to choose that knife because of the comments you made about it's smooth as silk action when deploying the blade as well as retractable action being just as good also the grip you get from the G10 handle really makes a lot of sense to me, anyway I think you've chosen wisely sir, love your videos Dave really enjoy seeing all the different types and models it's pure therapy for me thanks 🙏 atvb Dave
Hey there DCA, have you done a segment highlighting knives with multiple deployment method options? I'm thinking SOG Terminus XR competitors with a flipper, thumb studs and cross bar lock. Cheers!
I recently went over our state laws in regards to knives with some people and pointed out that open carry dual katanas are perfectly legal but if you have a 3 inch blade that uses a spring to open you go to jail. It's just sill how many peoples attitude toward automatics are based off of gang movies from the 80s. I'd love to see a show focused on parts to swap out, clips, spacers, studs etc. in the future, thing outside of just scales to customize.
Ok, I was a knucklehead last weekend and had my Damascus Civivi Pintail in my pocket when I went to a concert and had to throw it away. I loved the knife! Any suggestions for a replacement?
DCA, I'm planning a couple fall backpacking trips and trying to decide what knife to take. I don't plan on doing any bushcrafting, but will do some firewood prep if there's no burn ban in place. What's your pick for a one-size-fits-all lightweight knife I can huck around in the woods? I always keep an SD Classic in my first aid kit, but only want to carry one other if possible
It's very likely you got a clone. The OKC rat 1 and 2s on Amazon there is a big problem with people receiving clones... I bought a para3 in S110v on Amazon about 6 months ago and received a crappy blue handle pm2 clone. Yes Amazon took care of my quick but the fact of the matter is becareful buying knives on amazon.
@@EDCandLace Yeah, if you're getting a "really good deal" on a knife on Amazon, chances are its a fake. Only knives I've gotten off Amazon I made sure the manufacturer was the seller (ESEE)
Who was the top knife boss in the 80’s? Sylvester Stallone in Rambo , Michael Douglas in Romancing the Stone, or that one dude in Crocodile Dundee? What knife would KC supply that boss if he called to order a new blade today?
Hey DCA, I never thought about the Hogue that way.. but I voted that you would’ve picked the Hogue too! Ha! Knew it! Thinking about getting that otf too!
I find myself wishing that MKM Makro was embracing its moniker with a little more gusto; going from a 2.5-finger grip to a 3.5-finger grip just falls short of really being "upsized". Let's see the Makro XL and a full 4-finger grip...
Hey DCA, Earlier this year I bought a knife with mammoth tooth scales. They're beautiful! I know these things have already survived for thousands of years, but I was wondering if there is any special care they may need. I live in the desert and worry about bone and antler drying out and cracking, and I just use mineral oil on them. But after reading about some of the prep for mammoth tooth scales I feel I should do nothing. What are your thoughts?
Hey DCA! I recently purchased a holster to carry my Tactile Knife Co Bexar horizontally on my belt. As great as that knife is, it doesn't make sense for me to carry a $200 blade every day as my 2nd blade. What can you recommend as another option that is roughly the same in width, length, and thickness as the Bexar to put in my holster? Pocket clip is not important because it will most likely be removed. Bonus points if it can be opened and closed easily with one hand.
Hi David, I would love to hear your thoughts on Joker knives! I recently got my first Joker...a Nomad. It seems really nicely made and is a lovely, practical design. It would be really cool to see you run through the range, as they make some gorgeous designs. Cheers.
Is Avispa, in comparison to RAT 1, somehow lacking in functionality and character? I noticed that most any time 'hard use' folders are mentioned in your videos, RAT 1 is usually included where as Avispa hasn't been mentioned at all. Just curious as you do sell both of them on your website.
What are your top 5 (or more) locking mechanisms on folding knives? Different categories would be interesting like fidget factor, strength, ease of use (opening and or closing)
Tactile Rockwall is an excellent slim gentleman carry. It takes no room in the pocket, legal in places with 3” blade length limits and cuts great. Mine is the original flipper version with XHP steel but I’ll be getting a second one with thumb studs, MagnaCut and Golf Ball texture on the titanium scales. I prefer it to my Zieba MS3 which is too slim and CRK Sebenza 21.
Hey DCA! Little late to the party but i’ve been looking for a knife (or knives) with these features to give as a gift for someone: -Triad lock -Not a Cold Steel -3.5 inch or less blade -Drop or clip point -Aus 8 and/or above -Around $60 or less -Deep carry pocket clip -Smaller handle -Below 5 ounces Might be a lot to ask for, but can you help?
Hi DCA, love the content. What’s your take on pocket folder size? Personally, I’m a big-knife guy. I EDC the full-sized Benchmade Adamas & Crooked River, as well as the Spyderco Military & Police 4. I’m 5’11”, and these knives fit my pocket just fine. Where do you stand on this subject? Thanks, and keep up the good work 👍
Curious. A few years back I purchased a Kershaw Thistle. When I first saw it it seemed to me that this was the answer to making a liner lock finger safe but the design doesn’t appear to have taken off or gained much popularity. Was this because it was first introduced as a cheap made in China knife with low end materials? I still have mine and it still works flawlessly so am curious as to what your thoughts are on this particular knife locking design and why it didn’t take off.
DCA, what knife would you recommend as a gift to an “older” but not old family member (early 60s) that is fun and functional? My price range is around 100$ thanks!
Hey DCA, I’m a chef and I use a pocket knife at work quite a bit (not on food). I currently edc a bugout at work and like it fine (I prioritized it’s low profile in the pocket which I admit is nice). I was wondering if you could think of the ideal “in and out of the pocket” knife. What I mean by that is the easiest knife to pull out, cut one box, and put back in the pocket. I’ve got no complaints with my bugout, but I thought it would be an interesting challenge for you. Best from Minneapolis, AL
Hey! Great vid as always, love it 😄 I'd like to know which brands you would recommend for knives with little price (under 100) but also good quality and of course cool looking?
Hey DCA, as far as hunting field knife shapes go, I've always been attracted to a skinner type blade. In the EDC world, you don't see skinning blades. Looking for your opinion on pros and cons of having a skinner blade as an EDC. Obviously the main focus is on fixed blades, however I would love to see folding options. Thanks for all the info you put out.
Hey guys, maybe you’ve answered this before, but I’m trying to find uses for my smaller/secondary blades on my folders (Swiss Army, Case Peanut, etc)? I always just end up using the primary blade for everything. What am I missing?
I predicted the Hogue, you said just enough about it in the last video I knew you were too keen on it, and I didn't think you'd go with a side opener. Do I win all the brownie points?
hey dca I'm getting ready to go on vacation and I'm looking for a compact pull thru sharpener to throw in my bag in case I need it. I've noticed there are a lot to choose from. which one would u recommend? as always thanks love the videos
Hey DCA, I recently started using a Gerber EAB utility blade at work. It's not bad, but I want to start carrying a nicer utility knife, (along with my normal EDC knife). Is there another, exchangeable utility blade that you would recommend?
DCA and Crew, I am looking for some help on buying a new knife. I missed out on the Benchmade AFCK back in the day but like the design. I bought two of the Benchmade revivals from their red line, back in the day (Pika and Vex). I know that Spyderco makes similar, but I don't like the hump in the blade. Is there anything equivalent to the AFCK out there? I would like something that is made of decent steel, but I would like to stay under $100 if I can because this will be a working knife that will see rough use. Thanks for your help.
I have a really quick question about the SOG TAC AU: If you took the spring assist out of it, would it just function like an Axis Lock? Obviously you could just buy an Axis Lock-style knife if that's what you wanted, but the thought occurred to me and I was curious. Thanks!
Yo David, I really liked the CRJB HYPERLITE from your last video. Unfortunately it's out of stock. Any suggestions for a fixed EDC in that price range?
Don't let them know flippers are as fast as autos (usually faster than side openers in practice) or juridictions which ban autos will also ban flippers.
Just picked up the benchmade Long hand pen. What are recommendations or your favorites with regard to tactical pens from these big-name companies? Got a love for pens, and I’m thinking of the Shirogorov/sinkovich or the microtech siphon pen next.
Hey DCA, Im a hybrid between a bushcrafter and a ultralight hiker. So I like to try and find gear that has a little bit of both quality’s. Im looking for a fixed blade that had a traditional bushcraft feel (scandi grind, micarta/wooden handle, tough but easily maintainable steel) but also won’t weight my pack down and become a burden to bring with me on a multi day hike. Have any suggestions for me?
Yes, they are outstanding safe. After one week, or maybe two weeks, it is no longer working. I can burry you here under hundreds of OTF which worked only 1-2 weeks.
Hi Sir, My question is, which powdered steel is closest to 1095? I can get a screaming edge on my Case CV blades and wondered what kind of improvement there would. be in edge retention Thanks Take care Graham
Hey DCA, I usually carry the ESSE Izula 2 for edc but I’ve been eyeing the Bradford Guardian 3 but I’m not familiar with N690 steel. Care to elaborated on its performance compared to the 1095 carbon steel of the Izula?
Looking through Knifecenter’s portfolio I only see the M390 version which is what I should spring for but I’m still interested in N690 steel and it’s performance.
Hey DCA, what quality’s make a knife sharp? Is it steal, edge geometry or grind? I want to get a new knife that can get crazy sharp any recommendations $75-100$ thank you
Hello gentlemen. I seem to remember a video, from either Shotshow or Bladeshow, wherein you talk about a steel being comparable to spydercos' H1 or LC200N in terms of stain resistance. Can you recall the steel in question or perhaps speak on the subject of extreme stain resistant blade materials? Cheers -Paul
Being from the Lone Star state, I love all things Texas. I've always wondered, why is a Texas toothpick called a Texas toothpick? And what was the intended purpose / use behind the large models with such a long, thin blade?
Hey DCA, I would like to know why we don’t have more kitchen knives in the higher end steels we enjoy for our edc? Is it a cost thing or why don’t we see more of them? Also a list would be good of your recommendations.

The Makro Grande?
Claymore was a brilliant answer for that question, mad I didn't think of that myself.
Just brought a CLA! Customized too! Thanks guys!
Hey DCA, what are some good alternative neck/belt knives to the CRKT minimalist?
CRKT S.P.E.W. in D2
The title says it all. Great idea for an episode.
SUPER SERIOUS QUESTION!
what two knives would you choose to arm an army of squirells
That actually does help! Thanks, DCA!
Hi David,
I would love to hear your thoughts on Joker knives!
Pretty sure he’s already done that video, but I could be wrong
Tactile Rockwall is an excellent slim gentleman carry. It takes no room in the pocket, legal in places with 3” blade length limits and cuts great. Mine is the original flipper version with XHP steel but I’ll be getting a second one with thumb studs, MagnaCut and Golf Ball texture on the titanium scales. I prefer it to my Zieba MS3 which is too slim and CRK Sebenza 21.
For less than 25$ , ck out the Buck Langford...looks, feels and performs like an expensive knife.
In black ...
@@JoeandAngie How's we get from Tactile/Zieba/Chris Reeve to "$25 Buck" knife?
Hey DCA! Little late to the party but i’ve been looking for a knife (or knives) with these features to give as a gift for someone:
-Triad lock
-Not a Cold Steel
-3.5 inch or less blade
-Drop or clip point
-Aus 8 and/or above
-Around $60 or less
-Deep carry pocket clip
-Smaller handle
-Below 5 ounces
Might be a lot to ask for, but can you help?
TriAd Lock is licensed to Cold Steel by Andrew Demko, so you can only get one from them or in a custom from Demko himself. -DCA
Hi DCA, most serious question here. What knife would you suggest to help a bruised finger nail? Asking for a friend?
David can we please get a video on your folder collection? Thanks for the great content.
Hey DCA interesting question what are some good fixed blade and folders combos that go well together for under 200
Totally agree with the Pilar Large suggestions.
For me, almost any AXIS lock knife does the trick for this scenario, and most often for me it is a Bugout too :) -DCA
The Parables of Saint Thomas, patron saint of reverse tantos.
Thomas, that brought a tear to my eye
Hey! Great vid as always, love it 😄
I'd like to know which brands you would recommend for knives with little price (under 100) but also good quality and of course cool looking?
Nvm you just made a video about that sryyy
Hey DCA, as far as hunting field knife shapes go, I've always been attracted to a skinner type blade. In the EDC world, you don't see skinning blades. Looking for your opinion on pros and cons of having a skinner blade as an EDC. Obviously the main focus is on fixed blades, however I would love to see folding options. Thanks for all the info you put out.
Benchmade Grizzly Creek or Crooked River?

DCA and Crew,
I am looking for some help on buying a new knife.
Can you talk about your journey through the knife hobby? What got you started? What styles/characteristics have emerged as your favorite?
I have a really quick question about the SOG TAC AU: If you took the spring assist out of it, would it just function like an Axis Lock? Obviously you could just buy an Axis Lock-style knife if that's what you wanted, but the thought occurred to me and I was curious. Thanks!
9:50 Hey looks, it's me recording!
Hey what steel is on that crkt you showed. It looks really cool and i like the tip down option
Just picked up the benchmade Long hand pen. What are recommendations or your favorites with regard to tactical pens from these big-name companies? Got a love for pens, and I’m thinking of the Shirogorov/sinkovich or the microtech siphon pen next.
I went with button interface over slicey-ness for your pick, so the runner up. Classic rookie DCA predictor mistake.
I think the RAT knives are beautiful.
DCA is the very best. I look forward to the videos like the old BHQ days. Unfortunately Knife Center is never getting another dollar from me.
OTFs are actually some of the best edc knives because of convenience and they are also some of the safest knives
Yes, they are outstanding safe.
After one week, or maybe two weeks, it is no longer working. I can burry you here under hundreds of OTF which worked only 1-2 weeks.
Hey Dca I've been eyeing the Toor Darter but seem can't to find one in od green any runner-ups for a pocket fixed blade?
I'd agree with your hunch about the knife sharpening guy. Strop or honing rod to complete the sharpening process is likely being skipped.
Will the KC exclusive Spyderco Dragonfly Pakkawood be back in stock?
Hi Sir,
My question is, which powdered steel is closest to 1095?
I can get a screaming edge on my Case CV blades and wondered what kind of improvement there would. be in edge retention
Thanks
Take care

Hey DCA, I usually carry the ESSE Izula 2 for edc but I’ve been eyeing the Bradford Guardian 3 but I’m not familiar with N690 steel. Care to elaborated on its performance compared to the 1095 carbon steel of the Izula?
Looking through Knifecenter’s portfolio I only see the M390 version which is what I should spring for but I’m still interested in N690 steel and it’s performance.
N690 is a stainless steel most similiar to 154CM or VG-10 level of performance.
It looks like they are now making Guardian 3's with Magnacut. That would probably be the steel to get.
Hey DCA, what quality’s make a knife sharp? Is it steal, edge geometry or grind? I want to get a new knife that can get crazy sharp any recommendations $75-100$ thank you
Personally I prefer function over form when it comes to my sharp and pointy toys.
Cheers
-Paul
Was it Magnacut?
@@arrowheadguys7637 That's what I was thinking.
I'd love to hear about dendritic cobalt and other non-steels too though.
@@pcooper4976 might have also been Vanax, its up there with LC200N as well.
Being from the Lone Star state, I love all things Texas. I've always wondered, why is a Texas toothpick called a Texas toothpick? And what was the intended purpose / use behind the large models with such a long, thin blade?
Hey right on DCA's new knife. What about the warranty on knives?who stands up for their knives the best.

Recommendation for a kitchen Chefs knife at $100 or less. Looking for a knife that will take a good edge, and hold it. I hate sharpening. Thanks
Hey DCA, I would like to know why we don’t have more kitchen knives in the higher end steels we enjoy for our edc? Is it a cost thing or why don’t
we see more of them? Also a list would be good of your recommendations.
Mostly cost of machininng and materials overall. If you like something with ''extra'' edge retention, check out Sandrin kitchen knives :)
