There used to be 9 sins before Vainglory/Vanity and Meloncholy were absorbed into Pride and Sloth respectively. Seems like Re:Zero is using the original 9 and not the current 7! And Devil is a very confusing translation but, it's the same as Warlock (Male version of Witches). So, I don't believe it's a separate thing. And, Yusuku Kobyashi (Subaru's VA) did win the crunchyroll award for best Japanese VA for that year!
*There used to be 8 deadly sins in the catholic tradition, then one of the popes merged Vanity into Pride, Melancholy into Sloth, and added a new sin - Envy
@@siginotmylastname3969 yeah the confusing part is that in japanese there is only one spoken word for "magic man" but different versions are written differently. Whereas in english we have half a dozen words for "magic man." Here though it very clearly was supposed to be something like warlock the "male equivalent of a witch" based on how it was written
I think in this case “same lineage as the witch on envy” is probably referring to her being a half elf instead of specifically familial relation to Satella.
I will be finishing all the edits to season 2 this week!
For what it's worth, Subaru's voice actor did win an award for this.

@@animdalf9178 Thank you for the correction!
"Devil of Melancholy"
An alternate (and more accurate?) translation would be WARLOCK of Melancholy, that is the (male) Witch of Melancholy.
Localizers going out of their way to make things confusing
@@ExpertContrarianthe explanation I've seen treated it as a bad typo(reading the kanji wrong) not localising though.

The way that Hector dresses and pronounces words is...interesting.
Saaaa~
I think he's supposed to be a warlock, not a devil
I can’t wait until you get to season 3
