While swimming in the pool my brothers and I decided to do some underwater atomic bomb testing on our lego boat. This led us to perform a number of tests using the slow motion feature on my iPhone and GoPro.

And honestly in akron just 50 miles or so below the lake I meet grown people who can't comprehend the size of the lake. I mean when I tell people about a lake where you can't see the other side, they laugh at me. Grown over 30 something people. It infuriates me. We must be living in the new dark ages. All technology at their finger tips and a freshwater sea 50 miles above them with turnpikes and highways and they are as oblivious as a fish in a bowl.

Over here in Minnesota, most people know of this, but when I lived in Oregon, people thought I was joking when I said Superior was the size of a Sea. Then there's also the fact many older people tend to be technologically inept, so they can't use the internet as easily as we can, because they didn't grow up in the Age of Information. As long as a few people like you and me keep the knowledge spread about, I don't think the history many have forgotten will die out.

This actually brings up a ship design point-real ships don't have just gaping open cargo holds that could fill up with water when a wave spills over the deck and thus get the whole ship easily swamped. On real ships the deck is kept level with runnels cut into the upper hull so that water on the deck will just flow right back into the sea instead of down into the hold. It'd be interesting to see the difference-if you covered up that open hold with flat pieces and drilled a couple runnels in the side of the hull I guarantee that City Liner wouldn't get so easily swamped, at least during test 2. It looked okay in terms of ballast though, must have had that heavy ballast piece that came with the lego boats. Serious business indeed.

the only thing I have to say about how accurate that lego boat is, is that an actual one doesn't have a deep pit to collect water in like that lego one. The top would have a deck level with the outer lip and the sides would have holes level with the deck to let any water that did collect on the deck to drain off
