hi ivan. another great review. for some reason, i always look forward to your watch reviews. And quite often, you review some interesting watches, unlike many other youtube reviewers. This watch, I like it. not really whole lot to complain about. Casing design is excellent, I like the dial and indices and hands. they are all well done. However (yes, of course, there always is "however" ha ha ha), if I have to nitpick one thing, it is bit too thick (like most of all Spinnaker watches). it would have been very nice if the thickness was about 13 mm. When you wear the watch, I can tell it is bit too thick, specially a person has a small wrist. I am sure that they can make it thinner, but for some reason, most of their watches are between 15 to 16mm. kind of strange in my opinion. and for the back see-thru casing, like you, I also do not like the black printing. it is a bad choice from the factory. it just looks messy and does not match with anything. It would have been better if they just used see-thru back crytal without any printing or they can do some engraving of some simple designs, without colors, from the inner side of the crystal. that would have been classy. One thing I like about the dial is that at 6 o'clock position, it used "I" instead of number 6 throughout all of their 3 different models that you showed me. that is kind of interesting and unique touch that will distinguish this model from others. nice touch. another nice touch is that rubber/leather strap. that is really unique and awesome looking, however *yes, another however* the two strap BLACK RUBBER holders are bit out of place since upper side of the strap is mostly brown tan colored leather. again, it would have been classier and nicer if they had used brown leather (top part) and rubber at the bottom. but not sure whether they can make it like that or not. if they can not, just using same tan brown leather holders would have looked nicer to go with brown top leather strap color. if you ask me, yes, I also prefer hull california spinnaker with the special strap. that looks very nice. again, thanks Ivan for your wonderful review and hope to see you again.
Thanks Alex... oh yeah I absolutely agree, they could (and really should) make it thinner, even just around 14mm I would be more happy with. Maybe it's to do with the case design and tolerances, etc and it would cost more to do it thinner... but hey I'm no engineer.
Oh whoops, I just realized your comment was far longer than the browser I was using showed me... About the case back... yes, it does kinda annoy me that they persisted in putting that logo on there, I thought they would've received enough feedback on the earlier models to stop that. They have done differently in some models, so it's a bit of a lottery what gets implemented it seems. For me, a nicely done rotor is far more preferable than this. The "I" at 6 nicely complements the "_" at 3 and 9, although vintage California style styles actually had a horizontal "_" at the 6 position... I think the "I" is better looking :) Good point about those two black rubber keepers... I guess it didn't bother me too much, maybe because the strap is predominantly (like about 90%) rubber... given a choice between all rubber vs all leather keepers, I would go for the former myself...

1. They've put a shape instead of a number, just like they did at 12, 3, and 9. 2. Many consider 42mm large but as it is, Spinnaker haven't done anything at 40mm or less for over a year now IIRC... that's the style and direction they're going for.
@@PerthWAtch I do as well, but the blue on this just stood out to me and I couldn't resist. It doesn't always look blue, so there's potential for a lot of variation and depth in the color and I'm loving it more and more as I wear it. It can look very understated - almost black even, in certain light... then you go out in the sun and that blue really shines and it's beautiful
I used to feel the same way until I got my Seiko baby ice monster a little while ago and though it has a 43mm case (I believe) it actually doesn't feel so big on my wrist and that brought me into the slightly bigger watches over 40mm... And I'm extremely happy I took the chance, as there's a lot of really nice watches to be had over 40mm... This watch really doesn't feel so big on the wrist and it's amazingly comfortable.

Yeah that's true... thanks to the case design and short lugs it definitely wears smaller than the stated diameter.

Just don’t get the appeal of the California dial at all.
I think it's not for everyone... quite a specific vintage call back it seems.
It's interesting and beautiful... that's the appeal to me, but everyone is different.
