I had no idea this sort of thing existed. It's amazing how mapping and satellite data have changed how we see the earth. I'm looking forward to the outcome of your search!
The info is out there for everybody. Funny, once one gets used to it, you want more. For example, the Sat-maps only drill down to a certain size and of course it would be nice to get a view closer. I will have to show how to do that too.
It sure is different than when I staked my first claims: physically tag a post and then flag a line for 1KM by compass and then declare how many meters either side that you are taking (usually 500M one side and another tag 500M the other side, giving you a square KM. Research was all on paper.
It should be fun. Especially, if trying to be the first to win a claim at 10AM. A claim like this will have plenty of competition. But if someone else gets it, good on them. Like busses, there is always another one coming along.
While I was asleep, this claim was renewed. I am happy for the fellow that he didn't lose his claim. I will keep looking for another. It is all part of the game.
Hopefully, I am providing enough info that others can do it too, without boring the pants off people who just want the adventure. The most fun is the rush to acquire a claim when there is competition and of course when you walk the ground to find the first gold nugget.
That is really involved. Thank goodness you know what you are doing. I am rather intimidated by the process, like most people are. I look forward to watching you make a claim your reality. Good luck with it! 😁

Holy wow dude! This is like hacking and prospecting 😳 seriously so cool! That’s nuts man! I love it! Very interesting to see how all that works. Soooooo interesting! Here is info on claims in Queensland: www.business.qld.gov.au/industries/mining-energy-water/resources/minerals-coal/authorities-permits/applying/fossicking/mining-claim Looks somewhat similar,, but the restrictions are different.
You should switch between that map and Google earth so you can zoom right into the creek bed. I find it interesting that you have one of the better videos for Canadian Placer titles, I live in b.c. and want to get my own claims, but I have the privilege of being able to go check out claims in my truck first the ones with in 200miles of home at least.
Fantastic thank u so much I really hope u get what u want and it sad about these people who buy and sell claims just to make money like that they most likely never go to it but lie saying it has good gold etc again thanks
Some of them are decent, honest people. Well, I know one that is. LOL The others are in business to mine the miners. Gold fever makes for some bad decisions by some folks.
There's gold in them their hills.. lol...Sure hope you get what you want, I must admit never knew anything about this process pretty cool!..peace my friend.
Good luck! Be careful.....if you get gold fever your video content will change and you'll leave the rock hound in you tied up at home! I can't wait to see how this pans out for you 👍!
Hi, I have a question about the map #. At the 2:44 mark, you enter "092b" in the Map Number field. Where did you get that number, I don't see it on the map you are working off of?
$5/hectare for one cell (one of the squares) - you pay for the whole cell whether or not there is an overlapping claim or other restriction. Each cell is about 21 hectares (457m x 463m) in the south of the province converging to about 16 hectares in northern BC (due to the convergence of the longitude lines that as you move north).
If there are claims on the crown land, then you are not allowed, unless you have permission from the claim owner. The rules on metal detecting in BC have changed recently and if I read the regs correctly, you are not allowed to detect for placer gold where there isn't a claim. ie. if you want to detect, then you must be on a claim that you own or have permission.
Use a GPS to get you close plus associate with known landmarks (roads, bridges, creeks, etc). If down to the foot accuracy is required, you may need a professional survey. What I have done too is talk to my neighbour and agree on the boundary.
I have seen that on the maps too. My understanding is title changes are on hold by the MTO and it can be for any number of reasons. Sometimes, you can guess the issue, such as extension of a park boundary or native land dispute. I have not called the MTO to ask about a particular cell, but they might provide additional info if you know the spot you are interested.
That is a super awesome video. Some people aren't worth a damn. Your definitely not one of them. Know let's teacher Daisy how to sniff out gold and, well anything of value yyyeah.
I trained Daisy as a pup to find gold, or more specifically gold sulfides. It worked quite well in a controlled environment. Completely useless where there are birds and bunnies. Good thing they make metal detectors. LOL
I personally don't like online claiming. But I'm from Northern Ontario, with all it's unsurveyed territory. So I understand how it can be useful in totally surveyed territory... Honestly it all reeks of government cash-grab to me though. You still need prospectors to go and actually see what's there, no matter how good the sat image! LOL!!!
I don't care as long as the rules are clear. There also used to be problems with physical staking by compass in BC. Especially with people placing their tags early or being in the wrong spot. Years ago when I was physically flagging a claim line in central BC, I had a huge grizzly follow me up the mountain, looking at the blazes on the trees. Bears mark trees to declare their spot to other bears. This one was not happy that "somebody" was marking his trees. Nothing bad happened to me, but there was a short standoff while he tried to decide what to do ... and all I had was a half axe.
I suppose so gold fever would I understand business still sucks in someways because might be a guy down and out for money wanting to try and make a living and these others guys have the money if u know what I mean but over all it is a risk but it is a honest living take care and again thanks
Exactly correct. There are people every year who get a bit of gold fever watching the TV shows or reading exciting reports and think they would like to become miners. What they don't know is most miners go broke and mining is hard work. They don't necessarily know the basics (including how to sample effectively) and trust a good story. Their pockets get picked very quickly from acquiring claims, buying equipment and travel. It is unfortunate.
Sooke is a lousy area. Almost impassable in most spots and completely impassable in others. In most cases you are lucky to even find enough to pay the claim costs. Nobody wants to hear the truth. Damned gold fever lol

When you first access the maps, you can see the whole province to find the area/section you are interested.
@meMiner thank you sir!
How much does filing a claim cost,or the claim itself cost?
$5/hectare for one cell (one of the squares) - you pay for the whole cell whether or not there is an overlapping claim or other restriction. So, did you obtain the claim? An early Christmas present for yourself?
It didn't forfeit. He must have submitted his work last minute. The good news is claims are like buses. Another one will come along soon.
I would just like to metal detect in BC on a riverbed or on Crown Land. I would be sure to not be on anyones claim etc. Is this illegal?
