    I just watched your great loop series for the second time. My wife and I also did the rim trip on our way from Englewood, FL to Oriental, NC. I think your videos are great! Thanks for posting them!

      Thanks! Someone recently told me that you can't get through right now because one of the locks is under construction...you might want to check before you go through so that you don't have to turn around.

    Well done. Clearly and well spoken. I have never had much luck with Activecaptain that you mention. Unreliable information.

      Jerry Hay Thanks for watching. Sorry ActiveCaptain doesn’t work for you. I like it to find info on marinas. We’ve probably only submitted 2-3 comments to it over the years...

    Thanks for the great video. I just purchased a boat in the St Pete area and think it would be a great way to bring it to Fort Lauderdale.

      +Carlos Roldos We just came through there from Bahamas to Fort Myers last weekend. All of the locks were functional. We actually had to wait for a railroad bridge Sunday...It'll save you a lot of time and miles! Have fun!

    great video. Thanks. Is there a lot of slow and no wake zones going across? May I ask how many locks you have to go through?

    • @BoatingAdventures
      @BoatingAdventures  5 років тому

      james egan Much of it’s no wake/slow zone. It’s a test of patience. Plan on taking 2 days to get through. Here’s a link to a map marking the locks. www.saj.usace.army.mil/Portals/44/docs/Operations/owwmap%20revised%20hyperlinks.pdf
      Good luck and enjoy the ride.

    Enjoyed the video. I am in the progress of watching them all. What video editor did you use, you tube?

    • @BoatingAdventures
      @BoatingAdventures  8 років тому

      +pate allan Thanks for watching them...I used iMovie to edit them. On the Great Loop ones I made a sound track with GarageBand, but I wish I didn't because several of the riffs are so similar to other copyrighted pieces that I've had to fight A LOT of copyright infringement claims. They use some sort of robot to make the claims and then try to claim the video as their own so that they can monetize them. I really didn't want people to have to endure watching a commercial before each video in order to make a penny a view...The best music option I've found is UA-cam's Free Music Audio Library, which I used for the Okeechobee one. That camcorder broke during that trip, so then I bought a 4k camcorder...then had to upgrade the computer to accommodate the resolution. TMI?? Best of luck!

      Not too much info. Thats what Im going through. I download programs only to see they want money to install sound. The CD I have is mp4 and cant be supported by the program. On and on and on. You would think it would be easier. Does the Ipad come in handy for video editing? We have one for navigation which is the bomb. I need to get profficient in uploading videos by next spring when we will try the down east circle loop.

      +pate allan I've never tried the iPad iMovie app. It's probably easy to use when you get used to it? I started editing video in the early '80s on computers, so I use an iMac right now. What format video do you typically shoot? And is the iPad your only Apple product? If you want, you can email me at thegreatloop@gmail.com.

      Good question. We have friends with a similar draft that just opted to avoid the lake because the lake level is low (and someone reportedly hit a refrigerator on the lake bottom--don't know if that's true or not). It may have changed because of the rain? There's probably a web site with a phone # to call for a more updated opinion. Good luck and let us know what you decided.

    Do you not have a sonar unit onboard?

    • @BoatingAdventures
      @BoatingAdventures  7 років тому

      We had a depth gauge and gps onboard. We came through the waterway this summer and some markers were definitely off their marks and were in very shallow territory...

    Distant Shores,
    Good points, too bad most sailors don't do this. One more thing, however...COMMUNICATE and let the other boat know what you're doing. Most of the time when I call a sailboat, they are silent so I have no clue what they will do, so I just give them a 1 or 2 horn and pass.

    • @BoatingAdventures
      @BoatingAdventures  5 років тому

      Larry Fl You’re certainly not the first to say that about sailboaters. We could have fun speculating that for quite a while.
