This was great, thanks! My TJ ('06, actually TJU) has a different set of moldings up front. you really have to take the front corner moldings off (which requires taking the visors out), but the result is a clean open view - perfect for tonight's drive in movie! Thanks again.
Your TJ is so beautiful! I have a JKU but I love the older jeeps so much more. Whenever I get a jeep wave from an older wrangler, I'm like a little kid in a candy shop. Seriously makes my day!
I'm with you. Went from my XJ to a 2013 JKU Sahara and was constantly looking at vids and mods for TJs. I was like, what the hell I just bought a 4 door beast and all I want to do is mod out a little 2 door TJ. So finally pulled the trigger and traded her in for an 06 X model. Silver with the soft top and full doors. Ready to roll now. :)
There’s knobs for the windshield on the hinge part to make it easier plus I have a full role cage too , I also don’t have trim on the frame , awesome video
Have an 03 TJ, and I’ve said every summer I’m going to drop windshield and never have. One , kinda time consuming for temporary ride style , and two , everything is illegal in CT (the no-fun state) , and so I assume a dropped windshield on public roadways is illegal as well (remember , auto insurance companies essentially write our street laws via campaign contributions ). But this year, I’m feeling ..... dangerous
Can't have fun in PA either. But I believe a dropped windshield is legal if you have eye protection. No doors, tube doors, and tires sticking out more than 1/4", wheel spacers, are all illegal too.
Wow. I’ve never been stopped for no doors , never even dawned on me . My tires are past legal protruding limit too. Oh well. It would take a serious ***hole of a cop to enforce those infractions. And they are so common on the road , that they practically nullify those restrictions.
It depends on the jurisdiction and the judge. Some see it like a summer fund raiser. Other reasonable judges will throw it out if you show up to court. I was specifically told it was only cool to do if it was an 85 and older in my town. Back then doors were an option and not factory. I'll take my doors off sometimes but it's not the norm.
Hey Kyle thanks for the video and details. I am fixing to embark on changing out my hinges and some other items as well and your videos are really helpful.
Hey! I have a '97 TJ. I need help with getting my doors aligned so that my doors don't rub when closing and my skins fit right. There are gaps at the top. I have measured my windshield from front to the back of the jeep (center and both corners). The driver's side is different from pas. I'm just a little stumped at how to get the gaps right.
@loganfluharty I was told to start over by realigning the windshield. I had some success with bending the window frames but the driver side door is still off
Good vid. Not sure why I’d take it down. Might be fun for trail riding or wheeling. But mostly it seems like a good way to get bugs in your teeth. Unless you can put it down at the trailhead it doesn’t seem like it worth it. Do you think I could replace my rusty hinges without taking the windshield off or down?
Maybe the strap from the jack stand might fit it. Yea you'd have a loose jack stand rolling around but probably better than chancing your windshield flopping around.
The bolts on the cage and the ones on the windshield bracket, and they just come right off. I think in the owners manual it recommends strapping the bars down in the back, but I usually just leave em at home
Bro I was watching this to see the Phillips head screws on the plastic inside the window and you didn’t even focus on those you’re focused on the ones on the outside. The one somebody put in my jeep has weird heads on it and I wanted to make sure that they’re the normal screws. These look like regular drywall and 2 x 4 screws which doesn’t seem right to me
So that's the roll bar for the driver and passenger......I owned a JK and I think it was a tad bit beefier than that twig of an A pillar bar. Obviously the windshield frame is part of the structural rigidity. I've seen TJ's with custom front rollbars. They installed it after rolling their jeep on a hill and landed him and his girlfriend with nasty injuries.
It's more trouble than it's worth. But pretty cool just the same. Drastically lowers your safety margin when driving around in a vehicle that's already pretty apt to roll over.
The origins of the windshield folding was so GIs in the original willys can shoot their enemies without blowing the windshield glass...... If your a handicapped hunter and you handicapped tags, you can shoot from your vehicle, this is where this comes to play.... Very niche function.
1. Your going to have to take the winshild wipers off the Jeep came with a toolkit to take them off if you can get it watch a vid. 2. Your winshild should be easy to pop off from the inside one wipers are removed JAVE A GOOD TIME CARTER
Instead of penetrating oil that might ruin your paint tighten the bolt slightly if you can get it to turn it all then it will loosen. This is a NAPA know how trick
your videos have been pretty good so far but you have done this wrong,. the black trim is not meant to be unscrewed, its in no way structural to hold up the front of the sports bar like that. There is a video on youtube called "97-06 TJ Jeep Wrangler Operating Tips" if you go to the 19:58 mark it willl show you how to do this correctly and safely ua-cam.com/video/ofETsztmjZA/v-deo.htmlm58s
Huh... Well that's one way to do it I guess. And the legality depends on your state. I know in LA I haven't been bothered by cops with the windshield down and just a helmet on, and I've taken it on several long drives
I've had a tj since 04 and have been wheeling at least twice a month since and I have never met anyone who has actually done this. No ACTUAL jeepers do this lol.
That’s hilarious man. Did you ever find out about the motorcycle helmet? Can’t see why it would be illegal but I have seen dumber laws. Anyway, thanks for showing how to take the windshield down!
Straightforward, got right to the point. Thanks for explaining this so concisely.

Very cool! Great idea for the drive in movie!
Yeah I second that movie idea you’re a genius for that thank you

I have the same red Jeep TJ! I have thought about trying that, but I think I will get the different mirrors and try door-less first!
Love the Jeep! What brand phone mount is that?
Thanks! It's a ram mount
RAM mounts are American made and top choice for emergency response agencies.
Excellent video. Every replaced the weather stripping on the front windshield? Mine is pulling down from the top
Hey Kyle thanks for the video and details. I am fixing to embark on changing out my hinges and some other items as well and your videos are really helpful.
Wish my TJ was that shiny and new looking
Next time you drop the windshield, take the door off also. That would seem to be really fun. Let us know how that goes also. Thanks
Bro - thanks for the Cool video - thanks for taking the time to make it and post it - I really appreciate it
Thanks for watching!
Your front fenders are dope, what fenders are those?
Thanks! They are metalcloak overline
What exhaust are you using?? Love the sound of your Jeep.
Thanks! Muffler delete

They are original jeep half doors
Hello nice jeep, what's the color code of your jeep ? it is firecracker ?
I belive so
Most people do it different and don’t unscrews the black trim they just take out the screws from roll cage and fold everything dow
Thanks for the correction

how to take down jeep tj windshield? 30 min later and 20 bolts later
Thanks for the info. The fact it can't be done old school with no tools is very annoying.
"If you didn't, give it a thumbs down."
Lol, I think that's redundant to suggest ;)
P.s. from me you got a thumbs up.

I'm more astonished that the 4.0 doesn't have any lifter tick over the whole windshield thing 😂
It's unfortunate, but the YJ was really the last Jeep to make this function a very practical option.
98 tj and I can do the same mod 😏
Someone stole one of my rubber stops on the hood. If you have a Jeep you know they don’t just fall off. Someone was that petty 🤦🏻♂️😂
Cool
