    The number of people in here that are angry about one thing this man said, among all the awesome things he’s done, really shows you don’t really want to follow stoic philosophy. You just want to play around and not change.

      Also, I Marcus Aurelius would ask, “Can I change Arnold?” No, I cannot. I can take from him though the positivity, genuine or not, and preach it in my own life. By doing that, I can control what I can change- my own positive outlook on life.

      It also shows a lack of actual engagement in philosophy. These people clearly haven’t thought about “freedom” as a concept for very long or why we have laws.

      It takes years to build a reputation but it can be ruined in an instant. It’s ironic that he fled Austria for freedom but then goes to make that statement. Think about that.

    i have a proclivity to shut my monitor off and listen to the greats speak instead of watching them. i picture the speaker in his physical prime and the message is actually more touching. you don’t look at these guys as old has beens; instead your listening to one of the greats share wisdom. the message becomes relatable that way. i follow the same technique when i listen to any old body builder and it works great. tom platz lee haney dorian yates; its an incredible way of listening to people you see as mentors from a distance.

    To all you people mentioning Arnold saying “screw your freedom”, you must realise your point is absurdly silly and shows a real lack of engagement in philosophy (which I assume you want to engage in if you’re interested in Stoicism).
    To lay things out, what I’ve seen said is that you think “freedom” is this ultimate good, yet providing ultimate freedom necessarily can entail the denial of somebody else’s freedom. If you think laws are a good idea, you necessarily also acknowledge that freedom must be constrained in certain ways to allow for a functional society. What Arnold said was a simple way of making that point - that the people who decry “freedom” as a reason to endanger the lives of others are inherently amoral. They go against what it means to live in a society.

    Arnold. I respect you. An highly intelligent Man. I want a Terminator movie, all have been good. Indiana Jones was not too bad, could you have a movie where the time machine does not work. That the 'Good' Terminator is falling apart. That he is truly living within a community, hiding his true nature. You have touched on this in movies before but it would be interesting to go further on it. A action movie but one that could possibly give you, Arnold, an a Academic Award.

    My grandparents were Ukrainian refugees ie displaced persons escaping Stalin and ended up in a camp in Germany and I kid you not they raised a family got a medical degree in German ( not his native Ukraine or polish or Russian ) and then made it to the United States in 1949. That took stoicism that took courage .
    Along the way to freedom and prosperity there was a world war prejudice miscarriage death or an infant and the triumph of three healthy children and character .

      People’s objections to the vaccine were a symptom of serious distrust and feelings of unfairness in society, cracks that consumerism has papered over for a long time. People’s concerns needed to be taken seriously and not ridiculed or dismissed. In a democratic society people should be able to refuse medical procedures/medicines. If you disagree, convince people. Don’t take the easy route and exclude.

    Less judgment….Says him who didn’t want gay marriage

    • @DavidLeeRothsAlterEgo
      @DavidLeeRothsAlterEgo Рік тому +1

      Gay marriage is a silly idea. Gays can't reproduce which is kind of the point of marriage. The biological imperative to replace yourself for the next generation. To put down roots for your kids to have a stable home. You have kids to impart your values, train them to be productive parts of society. And they inherit your genetics, your possessions and all that you have worked for. How does gay marriage do that? Who do they impart their values and beliefs on? Who inherits their genetics? Who replaces them when they die? Gay marriage is a fantasy and pretty self centered. Are the gays going to leave their wealth they accumulated and their art collection to who? Their dog? A foundation? What is the point of it? Everything created has multifunctions for the service of others and gay marriage only serves the two people involved in it until they die. Hence the reason they have to target the kids of other people to keep the worldview alive. If you have to steal from another worldview to make yours work, it's not a viable worldview.

    Yeah, my dad came over to America on a college scholarship for university of Michigan and my dad is originally from Syria so my dad left with a bunch of men on campus who also work from the Middle East. None of them knew a word of English so the way they learned English was to watch American TV the American news.

    “The first rule of fight club, is you do not talk about fight club”😆
    The problem with talking about virtues like tolerance is it has the observer effect.
    I think thats why its said a virtue is not one if it has to be said, or the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
    So what do we see now in California with so much virtues being advertised? We see: increasing crime, increasing inequality, increasing poverty.
