    I’ll see about insulating my window or the sides of the tank. Plus, I had bought a bigger heat pad to cover more flooring of the tank to keep my leopard geckos warm. Unfortunately, I can’t do the space heater option. I have severe breathing issues, and heat exacerbates it.
    Thanks for the suggestions btw! 🙂

    I use the sheets of plastic that you attach to the window frame with double sided tape and then shrink tight with a hair dryer. just make sure you put the plastic inside the house, around the frame, not directly up against the glass. the point is to trap an insulative layer of air between your rooms and outside

    Thanks for the tips! First time leopard gecko owner in Wisconsin, it's gonna get really cold and wasn't quite sure what to do!

    I would say a heater that has a thermostat is definitely the best. I have one right I'm the middle of the room that I keep at 70F and only turn it on during the day

    Great video! One thing I'm encountering also in this winter time is lower humidity levels, so make sure to keep your humid hides or levels in general at a comfortable and healthy level for your reptiles :) Spray bottle with some dechlorinated water is always a good thing to have handy.

    This is really good! We're in Autumn going into Winter in the UK and I have a leopard gecko and crested gecko in my room. For the Leopard Gecko I use a deep heat projector on a thermostat 24/7 and he just loves it. For the crestie a CHE on a thermostat and its like they can't even tell the difference- both very active, especially when my house gets quite cold. Love the insulation idea xx

    Also, don’t forget-we are 98.6 degrees!! When the power went out for about 6 hours one winter, I put on a hoodie and put one bearded dragon in the front and zipped him in up to his neck, and one in each pocket! Put a fire in the fireplace, and a small blanket to cover us all up, and we were all fine!! 😊👍🏻.

    Apart from an under-tank heat pad that I leave on at night and an infrared heat lamp that is on during daylight hours, I use a space-heater in my gecko's room for most of the year here in Canada. I also always keep the home temp quite high. Any visitor that comes in always says "wow, it's hot in here" lol. I never wear more than shorts and a t-shirt when home any time of the year. My logic is that if I am cold naked so is my gecko! The space-heater gets shut off and unplugged any time I leave home even if it's for 5 minutes. During that time I leave the central air heating at a higher temp to make up for the space-heater not running. Also, one good thing is that the heat generated by the space-heater running for a few hours tends to stick around for a couple of hours after shutting it off. Heat is so vital for reptiles, it is not something to ever compromise on, so I put his comfort and health first and I've adapted myself to the warmer conditions :)

    Great video! I had to get my crested gecko a heat pad and thermostat for winter. I stuck it right on the side like you have and he loves it.

    Drafty windows can also be wrapped in plastic film to seal out drafts.

      you can use an under tank heater to offer a bit of heat on the side of the enclosure but it won’t provide a lot of ambient heat

    how would you go about a tiger salamander?

    • @JessicasAnimalFriends
      @JessicasAnimalFriends  2 роки тому

      Tiger salamanders are native to the US and actually do better in cooler temps than warmer temps. As long as your house isn’t below like 40 degrees for long periods of time you should be fine.

    Since my leopard gecko has a heat mat and is not near a window and I do have a house heater would that be fine since I have a glass tank as well

    • @nds711D

      Yep! Just make sure you're monitoring your temps and humidity since winter can be super dry as well.

    Hey, Jessica ❤️ still researching like mad. Starting to set up, and bug you with another question, but I can't seem to find a straight answer anywhere online (or just haven't come across yet)....
    I have a 25 gallon long acrylic tank with an undertank heat mat and thermostat set to a constant 92°F with a warm hide made of wood and cabinet liner substrate and a small, low percentage uvb light over the warm side.... I even covered 2/3rds of the ventilation to keep heat in the tank, but for some reason the probe 3 inches off the ground on warm side only reads 73-74° F ?? I know floor and air Temps are gonna be different, but what's wrong? What do I need to add/change to get better air Temps? What do you keep your air temperature at? What do you suggest if the heat mat is set to 91-92 degrees but not effecting air temp? CHE?

    • @JessicasAnimalFriends
      @JessicasAnimalFriends  2 роки тому +1

      Why do you have the probe 3 inches off the ground?

    • @alexisarmon365
      @alexisarmon365 2 роки тому

      @@JessicasAnimalFriends oops, I meant *one of the probes . I have 2 thermometer/hygrometers with probes on either side of the tank to moniter the hot and cold ambient temperatures, plus another probe that comes with the thermostat which the under tank heater is plugged into (this probe is on floor of the hot hide). The only reason why my "hot side probe" is about 3-4 inches from the tank floor is because when it was towards the top, it was reading 73 degrees, ish. I kept moving that probe downward inch by inch to see what the temperature is like towards the bottom compared to top of the tank... my undertank heater is working and the thermostat is on point. I just ordered an infrared Thermometer gun to be safe. We don't have our gecko in the enclosure yet because we wanted to test things out
      But yeah.... I don't like that my "warm side" ambient air is so cool.... 73 ish isn't okay, so I was curious if a small/nano ceramic heat emitter would help get thru the winter months with the UTH as well?
