Today we tested out the theory of learning how to drive stick-shift on a simulator! We put Myriah (a beginner) on the simulator to learn. It took a little bit to get the hang of it, but once she did, we took her straight to our 1972 corvette to try it out! Watch the video to see how it went!
as a sim racer for 4 years before i could legally do a driving test really helped me with my manual test and passed instantly
Nice to hear buddy, am getting into it as well, what simulators that you used and helped you the most?
@@alsadigaltayep22I recommend City Car Driving
@alsadigaltayep22 assetto corsa is really good also helped me get my license
@@alsadigaltayep22I used BeamNG drive
I'm geting into this just to learn my gears I have a real bad habit of lookin at gears when I change up
Great thing about learning to drive a stick - like learning to ride a bike...once you learn to drive a stick, you NEVER forget how, no matter how long the interval between experiences.
My husband and I both learned as teens and more then 10 years later, we don't remember how to drive Manuel anymore lol
people can even forget how to speak a language if they don't use it, you can forget
This really isn't everybody.
Adults who learn to ride a bike as a kid and then spend 15 years not riding one as an adult, they forget how to ride. Ive seen full grown adults literally get on a bike and wobble and fall to the side going 2mph
I've forgotten how to ride a bike, swim and even to speak a language (I can only understand it when it's spoken). So.. I get what you're saying, but take it with a grain of salt. I think these things are just hard to forget.. but you can forget anything with enough time lol
I would argue it varies by car. Example my truck and my car have 2 very different clutches.
Ones soft and sensitive vs the other being more forgiving.
Of course in terms of muscle memory you don't forget what to do but it is a unique experience jumping into new cars trying to learn bite points etc..
For people who don’t know, The sim they used is Assetto Corsa. There are an infinite amount of mods you can download and run on PC. The game is also available on console but it’s not moddable. Hope this helps 🙏
Mods that are half broken and require hours upon hours to setup. Waste of time
@@gdgd5194 what? 😂 i get some mods are trash quality but they take like 30 seconds to download and use.
@@Zlappy-The-King I would love to see you stream the process. How you set up some city mod and debug errors in 30 seconds. I must be talking to harvard phd doctor in computer science?
@@gdgd5194 all you do to install mods is literally drag the mod into your content manager and press install, or just drag it into AC's root folder. you've clearly never modded AC or anything if thats what you think about it, its one of the easiest possible games to mod, you could literally teach a monkey how to install mods on assetto corsa, its not hard.
@@gdgd5194 There's literally a mod manager specifically for Asetta that most modders use. You quite literally drop the mod in the manager and it activates. This work for most mods. Very few don't work. Modding Asseta can be incredibly easy.
I had to learn by driving around my old Kmart at night while in high school. But I officially learned enough to actually drive a stick while driving in my neighborhood. I had a very patient instructor.
Always have comfortable/appropriate shoes when driving manual makes a big difference
I was gonna say this is even harder with sandals on! Throw on some sneakers
Just use some Nike Dunks or Air Jordan Ones with a nice blue.
Should help with doing a reverse-entry drift /j
I've driven a stick my whole life and taught many people but always forgot to teach em red lights on a big hill and always wonder how they faired
"forgot" 🤣
I guess they rolled into couple of corvette idiots who happened to stop 1 inch behind
i would just drop the clutch at high revs
Simulator needs a clutch friction point/stall mod on a map with hills to really learn
@@xubious Eurotruck or city car driving. Both have lots of issues but there are no alternatives
I was worried about the sandals! She did great tho!
Yeah she figured it out way faster than we thought!
You need to mod tye hella out of AC to make it more realistic like a better corvette model that handles more realistically and stuff, but all in all. 👏👏👏 Amazing work homie
You need at least an hour to be able to barely start the game. Real polished sim should work out of the box...
@@gdgd5194 not reall doesn't need much work, just open the content manager select car map of your choice hit run and bam its loaded in 10sec.
Bro has been in all of the comments trashing Asseta for whatever reason. Even the base version of the game is very decent, and sure as fuck doesn't take an hour to set up anything.
@@StolenCry1 It sure does with t300rs and settings reset randomly. Beamng is much better
Very sharp young lady! Smart and without fear
Must be the jeans or the genes...
"alright! you just slammed it into neutral." 😂
Very nice, I suggest for future reference have her go through all the gears before driving so she gets muscle memory and doesn’t money shift
I thought about buying a wheel and pedal sets to learn the basics of driving cuz everytime i go on the driver seat of a real car to practice my legs would shake like crazy and i would shit myself (not for real obviously) cause of the stress, the car not being mine, me not knowing what the hell im doing and all that shit.
would it be a good thing to actually practice on a sim to be less stressed about the real thing or the mental barrier is something i need to break in a real car even if it mean potential damages to the gearbox and all that shit ? i think damages on a car that's not mine is what scares me the most actually ... a lot of people are stressing me out about the fact that i don't have a driver license at the age of 24 but like i said before i find it way too stressful atm.
and if it a good idea what would be the ideal wheel + pedal + gearbox for about 500/600 euros total ??? i know there are cheap options like the G29 but from what i heard it's really not the best and most people wanted to switch pretty fast after they bought it. ive heard good thing about the t300 but at the same time apparently overheating is a big issue on thoses ... HELP
other than that it's really cool to see a beginner being able to do it. if anyone ever experienced it and overcame that shity feeling feel free to leave how you did it, everything is good to take at this point ...
honestly there really is no solution to not being nervous lmao, obviously everyone is nervous their first time but its really not that big of a deal.
@@luh70k there is a pretty big difference between being nervous and losing your mind and control over your body imo
@@kannonfps naw, its just a scale of nervousness and overcoming it. I used to be the same way when i first started racing my mach 1 mustang. I got my feel for it and im just fine now. Its just developing confidence.
@@luh70k you were not stressed about jumping into that car, you were excited (which often is mis interpreted as stress)
id suggest you do to more research on stress.
when you have a panic attack every time you go in the driver seat it isn't as simple as you say.
here is the thing, you already have your driver license and a car, but here you are talking about RACING not learning how to drive which are 2 completely different things
also, im on my own, nobody to help me or teach me, i don't have a car yet so practicing on my own is quite hard. that's why i made that initial post in the first place.
wheel + pedals = 400e
Extra hours = 10h x 50€ = 500€ minimum
50€ is the minimum rate for an hour of (decent) lessons and it's actually pretty hard to find without waiting weeks or months before the next lessons, at least at this price.
and i didnt included potential extra hours i will have to add before the actual test. anyway ...
@@kannonfps i was basing it off the fact that i was shitting bricks because i didnt want to lose my 50k car. Im not here to argue i was trying to help lmao
The game simulator is great.
I love playing car sims, when the time I need to drive a real manual car. One of my mentor can't believe its really my first time driving a car. Of course I stalled the car 1 or 2. So its easy for mo cause simulators help alot. Thenl only thing i practice then more is to guage my left and right and to center my car on my lane. The the most challenging is in the uphill; its really hard for a beginners. Especially when you merge traffic from uphill and immediate right turn .
Congrats to her.
as someone with a wheel. i would use it almost daily at the age of 16-17 around that time im allowed to take my drivers test. 100000000% asseto corsa contributed to my driving skill. it helped me reach a level i never thought i could. i literally practiced paralell parking on the simulator and practiced driving in traffic. i only got a point for wide turning but passed. now im 18 more advanced and can drift like crazy etc. so worth it, all my freinds have 0 driving capability after u play asseto so much. like i was trying to play this racing game on my freinds controller and he was backseat driving so much and told me to slow down blah blah, since i have experence on asseto this game seemed so easy and i was taking corners like a pro. i instantly beat his personal best lap time on nurenburg and it just goes to show how much asseto corsa can teach you.
It definitely works to build muscular memory but the streets are a real jungle.
Can you explain this whole set up please!
which simulator game did she play on?
Assetto corsa
If anyones wondering, unless you got a real fancy expensive setup with pedals that have actual feeling in them, driving on a sim rig won't do anything for you besides help you get used to the basic movements and gear pattern
and yet there are high level sim people who learned only stick via a used farmer-jury-rigged logitech g27 and his DIY wood-stand and then nailing their motorsport licenses in the first try (its becoming a common occurrence in the grassroots scene)
Tell that to jann mardenborough
??? Thats cap bro, you can legit learn the whole mechanics of manual with a cheap sim setup
I don't know, maybe an old hyundai was not the easiest thing to transition to but after owning a g29 for almost 3 years it still took me months to finally get used to my car and stop stalling it regularly.
@@pokedude104 skill issue i guess
AWESOME, AWESOME to do it this way. Great idea!!! Hey, maybe if the teacher got in the seat first and demoed the simulator so she could witness and sense the rhythm, and listen and watch him and then let her hop in and give it a go, it might click a little bit with that.
I think, and he admitted it, he explained it "poorly". In fairness, not being an instructor, it can be a bit tough to know what to explain.
But I agree, it would have been nice to show it first. ;)
@@mickaelsflow6774...
your reply showed a lot of tact & grace, thank you.
Well done!!!
She did amazing!
The 4 speed is a bad choice to learn on due to the ratios being farther apart a 6 speed is ideal for learning it gives a closer gear ratio for take offs . IMHO anyways
Hey what simulator do you use? Does anyone know?
That’s what I’m trynna find out😂 I gone buy me a manual and I’m not trynna buy it and be clueless I need to learn some type of Knowledge
I think it's asseto corsa

Whats the brand of this set up?
Fanatec.
Whats the sim called
Assetto Corsa
@@Grineck how about forza horizon?
@@fahmi714 It isnt forza, But if you mean which one is more realistic I'd 100 percent say Assetto Corsa. Forza isn't realistic like at all, its more of a arcade game than a sim.
This is why I love sim racing
$$$$$
Of course you can!! Been driving over 20 years 😂😂
I think she is no more because she don't know about indicators 😂 what a driving lesson
You can learn whatever the fuck you want on a computer at this point let’s be real 😂
I learned in my bedroom with tons of yt videos. Then I grabbed my hammer to act as the shifter. Shoes to act as my pedals. This way i learned to drive manual in 1 hour. Only problem is you might shift into wrong gears.
Example from second to third you might accidentally go into fifth.
Fifth to fourth you might go into second on accident. Thats just a matter of real practice.
What youtube videos please recomend

I learned with a Logitech G25 and need for speed prostreet

Yep, Asetto Corsa that is. Not a must, you can use Dirt 2.0 as well.

Can you use BeamNG Drive too?
Women are in all equal to men, especially in physical related activity, as this video clearly shows.
Yup. It boils more down to environment and upbringing honestly. Both genders are capable of great things 😊
Guys needed to teach her what to do first before telling her to do. I also would not recommend assetto as a place to learn to drive. BeamNG Drive is a better sub for that, in comparison. Otherwise, fun video
Do you think Assetto is sufficient to get the basics down? Lived in cities most of my life, so had no real need for a license.
I've driven once, though that first time was done in winter, in a safe location, with lots of drifting and shenanigans 😂 Fun!

Man I wish they made better racing simulators all the ones ive tried are Logitech ones and they feel like your driving a go cart rather than a real car 😂😂😂
There is only 1 decent sim and it's good old LFS that we used to play as kids. Unbelievable that to this day there are no alternatives
But I can drive a manual😮
R u sure😂
Yes I'm
