Something to also keep in mind is don’t get too dependent on the handbrake. It’s a tool to correct mistakes you make and to help you perform a controlled initiation. If you’re relying on the handbrake too much then you are not driving the car properly. You should rely on angle to slow you down and throttle to control your drift. The rest is tuning. Good luck on your journey my friend.
It’s been an interesting experience to learn without one I’ve always played games to drift and I always relied on the ebrake heavily Now that I have a g29 without one I only really just whip and clutch kick to initiate drifts I’m getting used to left foot braking as a chase car to control the distance between us So you think an ebrake would make an impact at this point if I got one?
@@successboundd It absolutely would man. I encourage every sim drifter to get one but also understand its purpose. There are times when it is very beneficial but shouldn’t be relied upon to perform a perfect run and some tracks almost require it on initiation for comp tracks but very few. Definitely a great tool to have in the chase since ebraking and left foot braking while both slowing you have their own benefits. But I do believe in order to reach your highest skill level possible, you will need a hand brake to get you there.
people rely on the handbreak way to much if you watch any hight level drifting irl its all angle and speed, handbreak only for initiation and holding longer turns i havent ever used a handbreak on my sim, but tried it out after 3 years of not having one and it made my lines horrid and i wasnt able to steer the car in the right direction haha

I disagree but not entirely. Practice with expirementing is better. Thats the way I learned, and thats not the only thing i learned that way. You cant do good practice if you dont even know how to do it good. The definition of practice is to repeat something to acquire a skill or maintain it. So yes practice makes perfect.
@@KyLEEeee350 it can also make perfect. For example someone who practices on guitar with a metronome until they can play a solo perfect. Am i right or wrong here?
@@Alkize06 I can see where your coming from I’m not tryna like say your take is bad or is wrong it’s just I don’t think it really is true let me explain so yes you can practice one thing and become “perfect” at that one thing maybe yes that’s possible but to me that’s not perfection since your “perfect” at that one thing but not perfect at the like whole instrument which isn’t possible it just isn’t so my opinion on it is just yeah practice makes improvement but never perfect
Left foot braking is also really good for maintaining angle while staying on throttle. Sometimes you need that little stab to keep the car sideways without yanking the handbrake.
Very inspiring. The progression in two hours with the right guidance is pretty awesome. I do ALL the mistakes he did. Hand brake tap, too much throttle.. All day long.
Goosiest and bob teaching pro skills class is this the start of The Goosiest and bob Drift Academy that's why Goosiest is the 1 Sim Drifter in the World and as always keep up the great work 👍
iknstoner has a couple of equipment challenges I notice right away. 1. He has an underpowered wheelbase. 2. He has an oversized wheel for that base which requires more torque. This combo means he’ll have to manually spin the wheel instead of the physics of the game spinning the wheel a natural amount. I did the same thing. And when I upgraded to a 15Nm direct drive I had to relearn all over again. But, he needs to get much better at throttle control and different ways to imitate a drift and how to maintain a drift. Takes a great deal of patience to coach someone. Good job 👍
biggest tip you can give him is put on the original wheen, logitech is to slow to trow that mass around. get a thrustmaster before going bigger wheel so you dont have to feed the wheel
numpad + and - should be default for changing FF strength in assetto. Left foot braking is incredibly useful and shouldn't be considered optional in my opinion. It's just a fast rolling burnout. In fact you can go from slow rolling burnout into donuts into slow drifting and that's all you need to calibrate the left foot. It can be used for rotating the car into a corner(reverse entry) or precise control of the line. Not really comparable to handbraking. And start with the vanilla E30 drift, street 90's tires. Easiest car to drift in the game.
Someone with actual sense in a goosiest comment section? Mind blowing. But ain’t no one gonna actually listen cause these are the types of people who change gear ratios instead of actually changing gears and say stuff like “my wheel is straightening by itself what do I do”
Use your hand break to angle the car and put the nose closer to the inside of the corner, then control with throttle or clutch kick as you power over end of corner.
Hello Goosiest (hopefully), and anyone else reading this. You are a big inspiration for me and I discovered a new passion through this channel. CarX is absolutely great, but the g920 from by brother just does not wan't to steer smoothly with the game. Assetto Corsa works a little better, but I'm thinking of getting a Thrustmaster Wheel instead, too poor though lmfao. Anyways, what I wanted to say is thank you for bringing me into the world of drifting and cars and I hope to see you on the track in CarX or Assetto one day.
Yep left foot braking is what I'm currently working on to control speed through turn a mix of that and Handbrake anyway to control how much angle I have or want
Best tip I have is keep the back wheels spinning, keep tapping that throttle, do not let the tyres grip up or you will control. For extending corners, transitions, everything. i think that's why stoner was straightening up. Keeping the wheels spinning also requires more throttle control, and will help you tame more advanced cars as well, esp those with grippier wider tyres
Just a thought, but in my opinion its better to first learn drifting without a handbrake, and add the handbrake after you are already linking some corners. That way you don’t rely on it as much
Seat time definitely helps I first started in assetto and kept at got better. Took me a couple weeks to get everything down. I also was playing CarX since the cars are bit easier to control.
You can drift without left foot brake but its pretty much the secret sauce or the cherry on top imo. Especially when you only use 2nd gear you can extent your drift and use left foot brake as your 2,5th gear. Left foot braking can do way more but using it for the corners you kinda want to go up a gear is a good entry to left foot braking. (Dont use it when doing big angle because you will spin out)
Some people said that my g27 isn't suitable for drift in any game because it's too weak and slow while turning the wheel by itself in the curves. ;-; Now I only drive for fun in games like Euro Truck, Forza Horizon 3 and Beam NG Drive. I tried to do drift but it's just seems like me g27 not enough for it.
Do not use handbrake to scrub speed! Especially when you're beginning. Use left foot braking to change your angle and scrub speed to make everything smooth. Handbrake should only be for tandem adjustments imo. It will develop bad habits later if you use it as a crutch.
in the beginning left foot braking for me was WAY harder than just pulling the handbrake, so that's why I personally recommend handbrake first, then afterwards left foot braking
Fighting my chinesium poverty class steering wheel to learn how to drift has undoubtably been one hell of an experience. If you can drift with that, you can drift with any wheel or setup😂
if using a logitech my trick was to cut a tiny piece of a flip flop and i put it into the springs just not the clutch gives some muscle memory to build on alot easier good luck
as much as i love your content and your channel i do actually believe that you should leave the handbrake alone until you're really comfortable to drift without it. not because im a purist or anything, but you'll learn a lot better car control if you start without using it a lot!
i feel like this map on some corners is really dependent on the handbrake because from a corner you need to have a fast initiation to a corner you need to instantly slow down
Seat time is absolutely the only way you will see improvement when beginning to drift. Also, angle is not a good thing to obsess over at the start, keep the wheels spinning and link it 5 times and then maybe think about angle and entries.

Goosiest I have a question (or for anyone that wants to answer): When you used to use the logitech wheel on assetto corsa, did you ever have problems during transitions? When I transition and let go of the wheel, for some reason it doesn't rotate fast enough and the car spins. I have to force the wheel into every transition, but I see other drivers let go of the wheel and transition just fine. Is it a faulty wheel, or am I tuning the car wrong? 🤔
ftont camber and -0.20 toe on the front will allow most cars to self steer alot more also if you have a aftermarket wheel you will have to kind of throw the wheel to get it to spin as the g920 isnt made for the weight of the wheel
Yo goose, I’m sure you get this constantly, but do you have any car packs that you recommend using to learn how to drift? I’m noticing 99% of car packs are just insane power which just whips the back end around way faster than I can handle haha
