Here is a puzzle... my daughter has a late model Nissan SUV (not sure model or yr) and she has observed that when she enters Portland the transmission stops working every time... it wont shift... if she restarts the car it works again for a while... after she leaves Portland the problem NEVER occurs... have you ever heard of such a thing? Seems it is an "RF" issue... radio signal of some sort...5g? or wi-fi? or something else that is present and strong in Portland but not 10 miles away.

@@multipolarworld. It is when you get paid to take it away from resteraunts. I know a local trucking company in my area near Scotties son who does just that. Also in the state of Massachusetts straight diesel fuel is illegal. It has to have a percentage of it blended in with vegetable oil. It was made into a law a couple of years ago. Scotty, I got that one beat with that old Rabbit sedan. Those old diesels you can not kill. They run forever. I do not know if you know of John Noonan or not. He owns J. P. Noonan trucking West Bridgewater, MA and Hooksett New Hampshire years ago he converted all his trucks to run on vegetable oil. Starting with the one he was driving at the time. He put in a large 1,500 gallon storage and filtration system at his main facility in West Bridgewater. The best thing is he gets paid to run his trucks by all the fast food and Chinese resteraunts. He charges them to pick up their used vegetable oil from their deep fryers. Also the owner and captain of our local deep sea fishing charter boat in my town the Miss Chrissy converted his fishing charter boat's diesel engine to run on vegetable oil. He is a mechanic like you. He has worked on car engines and boat engines all his life. He gets his fuel from John Noonan. His charter boat smells really good every time he goes by my house out in the bay. it makes me hungry.

I found it had more power on hills ran cooler the only draw back was all the stray cats and dogs would follow my truck and were trying to lick the tailpipe and the fuel tank if I accidentally spilled some on the side of the tank. The very first Diesel engines were designed to run on peanut oil as distillate fuel was not available at the time.

It is also a problem of scalability. If 300 million cars in the US/Can needed scrap vegetable oil...there isn't enough and fresh oil would be $30 a gal.
Worse than the scalability of EVs...but that's going to be really bad in 10 years in nations that will mamdate them. There's not enough electrical grid to handle all the cars in service today if they were EVs.

I seem to remember used oil is actually better. When food is cooked in the oil the water in the food evaporates. The steam bubbling through the oil removes certain parts of the oil that are less combustible. That's part of the particulate that settles out of the oil. Then you simply heat the oil for a little while and remove any excess moisture. So if you can get the oil from a couple restaurants and have a tank to let it settle you can have free fuel for a long time.
Biggest problem is natural rubber. You can't use rubber seals and tubes. The oil eats right through it. You need synthetic hoses a seals

Keep the straight vegetable oils preheated and adequately filtered before burning them.
Saturated cooking fats should be settled out and converted to biodiesel and said saturated biodiesel should be mixed back into the unsaturated portions, that way you have a better and more consistent burning and lessen likelihood for problems in the long run.

I've heard of a guy who uses used oil from fast food joints and restaurants. I guess he has an efficient way to filter it for his fuel creation process. 500 miles on how many gallons? But even still, it's *500 miles.* But, sadly, it only works with diesel engines. I researched it for the process and engine types. I watched a 2016 Texas city TV News channel coverage video and the guy was filtering heated used restaurant oil in what looked like a burlap sack, which was probably lined inside with something like a t-shirt fabric. Seems that's all that's needed, but the video wasn't specific there. There were comments of people using fresh bought vegetable or peanut oils to prevent having to filter it. One guy diluted diesel with fresh oil 50/50 to keep from having to filter it and from having to switch between tanks. The need or not for vehicle-mounted filtering was discussed, so I guess the new oil users didn't need it. One guy said 2011 and older, so maybe that depends on the vehicle manufacturer. Many there have been doing it for years, while some having been at it for 10 years and maybe more by now. There were also many 2022 comments. Who knew? Well, they did! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 It's apparently been around for quite some time.
Why Redline??? Ever??? That's stupid!!! Yeah, maybe burning under the hood or from the tailpipe.... or maybe *both.*

There is a professional company collecting the grease from the fryers from the Carols Corporation (Burger King in Upstate NY) to turn it into biofuel. In turn businesses are buying that biofuel directly from that processing company to fuel their fleet vehicles. It would not surprise me if they eventually make a decent enough amount to consider offering deals to Rochester and Syracuse to run parts of the bus services. Syracuse has already been gradually changing over to natural gas for over 20 years and it would not surprise me if they consider biodiesel a step up.
