  • In this vid, I'll explain why I don't think the transformers franchise Michael Bay created isn't as bad as people put it out to be.

these films have much more heart, soul and love put into them than anything marvel has done on recent years, at least the first three films.
from a sound design standpoint only, the amount of effort that was put in making each autobot weapon and transformation sound unique, alien and like it belongs to them was just unbelievable.

As someone who got introduced to Transformers thanks to Michael Bay and grew up with the franchise, I eventually learned to enjoy the movies less after checking out other TF media like the WFC and FOC games, TF Prime, TF Animated, Beast Wars, and G1, all of which helped me realize how hard the Bayverse ruined and wasted the characters it had to work with, and why so many people despised it for that reason. These movies are great if you either set your expectations low, care purely about the action scenes, or know nothing about Transformers/don't care about the Transformers. Otherwise, every movie feels like a letdown, which is why they are so controversial, because some fans are satisfied with what they provide, while others are not. Having grown up with the Bayverse, it still holds a special place in my heart, and I love the great irreplaceable action and CGI that aged like wine, but I learned to like other TF continuities more with time.

And that's' the sad part. These movies could have easily been considered "good" if they were handled better. Just look at TF One, and how awesome a well-handled Transformers story is. But no, sadly Michael Bay focused fully on making bombastic action scenes (which undoubtedly paid off) but put in no effort into the sequences between the action scenes, making the movies feel very boring to watch without time skips. At least his movies were massive successes at the box office and allowed Transformers to become mainstream, and we are finally starting to get good TF movies as of the reboot with Bumblebee.
