Very cool. And never worry about the knuckleheads who think you're getting too deep into the weeds. Some of us love all that explanation of the how's and why's you do what you do 😉
Have to tell you that this is the best waterfall and pond I have seen on you tube. And I have seen a lot!!! You should be proud of you workmanship. I’m in the middle of a Japanese garden build myself and your work inspires me. Thanks for posting.
Next time we use that stuff I'll be sure to show more details! I often get into details and things like that on our Instagram stories, follow us at @tussey.landscaping to see more behind the scenes
True definition of "ponds done right, customers served right!" Great job!!! Could you guys do a video on how to determine the size of a liner for a project as well as how to estimate how much rock gravel and boulders? It seems like a total science how you guys get exactly the right amount without having to stop the project and go get more! Lol
Ha ha thanks Ryan! Appreiciate it! Great idea for a video. Truth is... it's not as much a 'science' as it might appear to be. The amount of rock, or tonnage, depends so much on the type of rock, the size you are using, etc. And this was I believe a 4 day project, so if we need to, we can always bring more rock with us on the morning, or take extra back with us in the evenings. As far as sizing liner, general rule of thumb is take your width + depth (x 2) + 2' extra on each end. So for example, using even numbers to make it easy: a 10 x 15 pond, that will be 2' deep, I'll take the 10 ft, add 4' for the 2' depth, and then add 2' extra on each end, so another 4', to end up with 18' wide, and then to find the length, same formula just using the size of the length instead, so that would end of being 23' long. So for 10x15 pond, use 18'x23' liner. This allows you to be creative and be able to dig a larger boulder into the edge etc without being constrained by your liner size. As far as boulders qty. we find the best way is to look at past jobs, evaluate the tonnage of boulders used in that, and then use that reference to calculate how many we'll need for a new job. Keep in mind we only need to do that for custom jobs, all our kits, like in this video, we've been building for 15-20 yrs and we know exactly how may boulders each kit takes because we've done them so many times. You 'could' use formulas. but that would mean you better be using the same type and size of rock. as soon as you change anything there, your formula needs redone. So, like I said, instead of wasting brain cells on formulas, we find that we're better of comparing to past jobs that were similiar in size, and then adjust accordingly for a new job we may be bidding. Now that being said, gravel could def be a formula. There's not much variable with gravel. Basically just use calculations to figure out how much you need to get 3" coverage across the bottoms of the water feature.
Excellent work and quality craftsmanship! The videos are well edited and quality made. These are the type of videos I gravitate to for resolving problems and getting ideas! Thanks guys.
I just found you guys from the Shaq video. Joey Genovese did my pond (I'm his latest pond), and it's insane. I also sub and watch a few of the other guys (Jaak, Greg, Ed, etc). I can't believe I never saw your channel before. Don't tell the other guys, but your channel is the best of them all. Actually, do tell them, they need an ego check from the real master Tussey. Got a question for you if you have time.... I run a UA-cam channel myself, on transforming land into food forest ecosystems. This is why I wanted a "working with nature" pond. Your editing and video quality is off the charts, and I'd like to improve in this myself. What software do you use? And in the final shot of the waterfalls, what camera is that with? Its insane how amazing it looks. And where do you get your music from? Hope you dont mind these odd questions for anyone builder. I want to leech your expertise in video making. Seriously, incredibly talented videographer.
Heeey! Yeah I remember you from the FB post. Welcome to the Tussey channel 😜😎🙏 Ha ha thanks man. We have fun, and I love creating things, whether it's with rocks and water, stories in video or images, or even software! (more on that later in the next year) I use the Adobe CC suite: Premiere Pro, After Effects, Lightroom, Photoshop, etc. The final shot was taken with Panasonic GH5 with Sigma 18-35 lens. You can use pretty much any editing software, and produce nice stuff. They all have the main tools it takes to produce good quality stuff. Adobe's products, Davinci Resolve, Final Cut are all good options. Good luck! Wish you all the best on your channel!
@@Tusseylandscaping thanks for taking the time to post all that. I'm pretty lucky, most of my viewers just want me to point my camera at my food forest and talk about soil microbiology. We did get a drone though, and now with the pond, I have some serious eye candy to shoot. I was blown away by your recent videos production quality though. Seriously amazing job. Looking forward to more videos in the future. You joined my short list of morning coffee UA-camrs (before I get outside and do my own, or, sigh, go to work in a cubicle... lol)
Weston, another amazing job sir. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to assist me (FB messenger) I appreciate it. Love the look of these boulders. It looks like you have large character boulders on the outside at every spillway drop?? Am i reading/seeing this correctly? Thanks again. Ryan
So under tips and tricks I saw you mention in a previous video about grinding a spot on a spillway rock to get more of a sheet of water rather than it rolling over the front of the rock. Since spring is coming can you address it again?
How about a follow up video, on this or another water feature, how does it look a few years in, with the fish and plants in equilibrium and the landscaping grown in and weathered. Maybe you made a video like that already and I just haven't seen it yet (Just found your channel today).
Also I'd like to learn more about the biosystem details, why isn't the water all green and gross? Do you filter the water or is it about the balance between the plants and fish? Maybe you have a video on that already...
No books - just youtube videos! And truly, I don't know of any books off the top of my head... I'm sure there are tons but just none that I would know to recommend. Sorry!
Tussey Landscaping unfortunately I know my budget wouldn’t be worth your companies time. I didn’t know if you were networked with someone near the Cranberry Township area.
i want to see the finished product... all of it... not a bunch a slow moving close ups. Ok, the closeups are good, but can you put at the end of the video a 30 second slow moving view of the entire landscape. all of it. The house patio, the entire water feature, including all of the surrounding landscape. and how about including the plumbing and wiring and lighting.. show what it looks like at night.
Yeah it's tough to make it back to all of these places at night, I do try to at least on the amazing ones. They look awesome. I'll try to get you more in the future. And yeah. been shooting more wide angle lately :)

All I want is a Tussey waterfall. Man -- these are awesome pieces of living art.
Aww thanks!😊
Team Tussey knocks it out of the park again!
Thanks Tanner
Hello from Australia, I love your work!
Heeey! mate :)
This one came out awesome!
That stone is beautiful!
I think so too!
By far my favorite landscape waterfall you guys created, hard and soft scape looks so natural along with the attention to detail! 👍👍👍👍👍
I wish I saw this before our last build! Great job guys!

Love ur designs! I will be building a waterfall inside a geodome greenhouse! Thanks for the help/training/ideas!!!
Oh that's going to be a fun project! Best of luck with it! :)

Thanks Peter! Glad you liked it!
Your videos are absolutely awesome dude. Many thanks to share.👍
Love the boulders and how you placed them

Thank! it's Semco weathered limestone from Missouri
@@Tusseylandscaping its truly beautiful
Beautiful! Did you implement any proactive planning for water in motion, for situation were pump shuts off? Are the rocks sandstone?
There's an overflow drain for any excess when it shuts down, and an automatic fill for when it starts back up

You bet! Yep, your right, every spillway or waterfall is "framed" by larger anchor boulders
Thanks Weston. Y'all make it look soooo easy!!
Ha ha thanks. Usually if you do anything long enough, it'll become easy 😁
Tussey would you mind explaining the use of the cement bags in the process of setting the large boulders?
That was a precautionary measure we took on this job for chipmunk damage prevention. Not anything structural or required to build a water fall
wish you guys were in the UK.
Do you have video on building a retaining wall for a small or medium water fall
I have a video on retaining walls, yes, but not really sure what you mean about it being for a waterfall?
Look's awesome👍👍👍👍👍 beautiful job.
stunning rockwork and falls guys...is there a natural filter of any kind on it too??
Yep, the aquascape bio falls at the top of the stream
Tussey Landscaping what’s the cost of building something like this
If you started up something down here in Southern Utah it would blow up. I'd run it for you!
Ha ha maybe maybe 😜
Very informative. What brand/name is the concrete cloth? Thank you.
We buy it from aquascape. Should be available at aquascape's website or any of their distributors.
Awesome job guys!
I saw Alvin, Simon and Theodore traveling south with a sign that said 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻 Tussey👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻! What’s that all about???
😂😂😂 this comment is awesome Jay!
Tussey - only HALF as awesome as that feature!!!!
So under tips and tricks I saw you mention in a previous video about grinding a spot on a spillway rock to get more of a sheet of water rather than it rolling over the front of the rock.
Since spring is coming can you address it again?
that waterfall looks awesome but is the pond large enough for big koi?
It's a smaller pond but a 20" koi would still be fine in there
Bang up job buddy!!!!!! How many bottles off foam did you all go threw?
Good question no idea 😂ha ha. Maybe 8 or so?
Gotcha, thanks, one last question or 2 what size pump did you use? And did you put down concrete under you plastic under the pavers?
It was a tsurumi 9pl pump. And no concrete under pavers, just separation fabric, compacted stone base.
You bet thank you sir......
Music at the End?
Awesome job. I wonder how much a project like this cost in Georgia.
30-40k
@@Tusseylandscaping Thanks. When are you planning to take on a job in Georgia :) Thank you for posting these videos.
Were you using hardware cloth on that waterfall? That's what it looked like.
It's concrete cloth. That the same thing you referring to?
@@Tusseylandscaping okay, thanks. On camera it has more of a chicken wire/hardware cloth look.

Which of your vidoes would you recommend, for a first time pond builder?
The part 1 video of the one you commented on here would be good. Also we have a playlist of all our pond an waterfeature jobs
Do you have companies you know of in Western PA, north of Pittsburgh about 25 minutes, that does the same work and level of craftsmanship?
We'll come out for the right project ;)
What did you have in mind?
Tussey Landscaping unfortunately I know my budget wouldn’t be worth your companies time. I didn’t know if you were networked with someone near the Cranberry Township area.
You showed a mesh type screen that you put down on the waterfall, but you didn’t mention it, why?
This is only used to prevent rodents from getting in! We don't use it in many jobs, but sometimes we need to so that they don't damage the liner!
How can do this for a living through aquascape?!
google for aquascape inc jobs! They have a job board for CAC's across the nation.
Where is your business located
We are in Hollidaysburg PA
Less equipment video and more pond details as you build, other than that good job on the ponds!!
Thanks for the feedback!
