I've been married to my Thai wife for 25 years, and I've known her for 27 years. In all that time she's never attacked me on a personal level, cut me down, called me a name, or shared any of my negative traits or my past with her friends or family. That's simply unreal in my book. Her family loves me more than my own family does by far, and they are a joy to be around. I've never met a better person than my wife in my entire life.
This echos exactly how I feel. I'm getting married soon to my Thai fiancé and I've never been happier. It is just an amazing, committed, and mutually respectful relationship. Went through countless relationships with girls back home where I just like I could never be myself and was always playing some sort of game with them. Began to think that I was never going to get to be happy but here I am and I can't quite believe it's possible!
My wife is a Thai woman that is so beautiful in every way , and our relationship is one of trust , respect for each other and our families , and our life is full of fun and so much love . Everyone who meets my wife can’t help but fall in love with her as she is always happy and smiling and sees a positive in everything , she never complains about anything , and works 12 hour days and still has energy to be playful when she gets home . Thai women are special creatures made by god , and if you should be lucky enough to find one of these angels , you are truly blessed .👩🏻❤️
I do, as well. But, I dont really agree with the culture of supporting a wife's family. Its not really usual in the rest of the world. In eastern Europe, for instance, the families are way too proud to ask. And, if a woman does say "I need money for my family" it very well could be a scam.
My wife is Thai And everything you say is true .. I hate the stories of the guys who go straight to the bar girls and get upset when these girls are not standing around waiting for them to send back a few hundred dollars.. These women take care of their families the best way they can and if you don’t understand that you shouldn’t fall in love or try to date a thai woman.. If you want a strong relationship you have to except the fact that Financial Security and stability is first and love will come as a result.. And what I love about my wife and other people I know with a Thai women ,,whatever you give it always comes back with warmth and love

@@khenglim I’m not talking about any relationship I’m talking about a relationship with a Thai woman my wife owned 2 businesses when I met her and it would take her three months to make what I make it one week .. and for birthday celebrations , weddings and even funerals in her country money is exchanged …they will wear money necklaces for their birthdays each neighbor goes to everyone’s house and get money for weddings the same with funerals also monks collect money at temples ..money is important in that culture and if you worried about how much to give then that’s a personal problem.. But if you want a real meaningful relationship that will get you the most dedicated woman in the world then you’re heart has to be bigger than your sex drive
Thats definitely part of the culture, sure. But, you should be married or at least living with her first. I doubt local Thai men support a woman's family, UNLESS they are already married. Also, you can value financial security/stability without asking a man to provide for your family. Eastern European women have it difficult too, and they rarely ask their man to support their family. If they do its often a scam (but not always). Also, you said 'the bar girls dont stand around waiting'. Do you mean they expect hundreds of dollars immediately? Or only after falling in love? I can understand the latter, but definitely not the former. No man should give that much money to a woman when they're just starting dating. Ans especially when they literally just met.

Very well put and excellent observation thank you. As a Thai woman hearing a lot bitter and rude comments from foreigners who don't know Thai people and culture enough is rather frustrated. It's lovely to hear from someone who spending a lot of time in ordinary Thai lifestyle and ordinary people not in the bar and tourist attractions to able to have fair views of normality that goes on in Thailand.

Im a foreigner whos lived in Thailand many years. Also dated Thai women and fell in love with one once. But my experience with her and other mixed Thai-farang relationships Ive observed convinced me that my personality and cultural-educational differences would always clash with Thai mentality. One Thai lady I dated came from a wealthy family and was well traveled. But her emotional instability and nationalism turned me off to the max.
One important thing that you should keep in mind when discussing Thai dowry is that its amount is based on your Thai fiancee’s status, education, occupation and other related social background information (such as her virginity). An average middle-class, university-educated Thai lady deserves a dowry of 100,000- 300,000 baht. A dowry of a million baht for an uneducated lady of modest means is just ridiculous. Thai dowry prices fall drastically if your bride-to-be has been previously married, already has children, or is not a virgin anymore. In fact in most of these instances, no dowry deserves to be paid. Thai dowry, however, is usually symbolic in nature and will normally be returned to the married couple after the wedding, so as to help them start on their new life.
Many foreigners have these opinions because of you Thai women fucking these foreigners over for money. Generalization are never good but the vast majority of Thai women really do fit the stereotype.
100% concur. I too live rural with my Thai wife, next to her family. She and they are so great. I feel their love and concern for me every, single day. I know where I stand on the pecking order of things and I’m totally okay with that.
From the perspective of one old American who has been married to a Thai lady for over 46 years now, I agree with all your points. Life ain’t easy, especially when we combine two very different cultures. That relationship will be challenging and require a large amount of work, compromise and love if it is to endure and thrive. Thank you! Really great insight. My Thai wife is from a village in Uttaradit. We will live there in a couple of years, and we live in the US presently. We have been married for 3 years. I think that it cannot be stated strongly enough that family comes first for most Thai women. My wife works hard and sends at least half of her money home every month, helps her mother and father, helps put her nephew through school, etc. She feels that it is her duty, and she does what she feels is right. It is part of her character that I love about her. Many of the women from the villages in Thailand have traditional conservative Buddhist values, which I find very appealing (I am also Buddhist). So, I am not number one on her list, probably not 2 or 3 even! At the same time, I also know that if she needs to take care of me for some reason, she will be there for me. I think many westerners do not fully appreciate how a collectivist culture works, and there is definitely beauty in it.
This is great! My (Thai) wife and I had a good laugh - she asks every day "Are you hungry?".... Although, having been to all 50 American states (I was born in NYC, lived in Alaska, etc). I can attest to the fact that the entire country has tons of poverty, broken families, and bad food... I'd say in the USA, you have to really try hard to find the good people, and the bad ones are in your face (because they enjoy getting in your face). In Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, etc, all you've got to do is get just slightly off the tourist-trap-track, and have a legitimate reason to be there, and the nice people seek you out. I've never even been to Koh Samui, Phuket, etc... Living a more rural life, just like you and your family. My wife is great - she's a hard-working housewife, but she also helps me with my business, and she doesn't suffer fools lightly! Peace!
Totally agree with you mate, Thai’s don’t take things and life in general seriously. And don’t stress if late for a date or appointment. My ex Thai wife had a great saying if I was stressing about getting to a restaurant late. She said why are you stressing, the restaurant won’t move tonight.
You hit the nail on the head with your generalisation about a relationship with a Thai. I made a mistake with my wife in the early stages of our relationship by not understanding the importance of food when walking through a market. Being a farang I just assumed that you eat three times a day and didn't understand that Thai's can graze all day, so whenever I am with my wife anywhere especially around food to make sure we stop and buy something. I thought your blog was a very informative and helpful especially for a first time relationship and I agree just like any relationship you have to work with your partner. Because of this world wide crisis I haven't seen my wife for at least two years, me stuck in Australia and her stuck in Lopburi Thailand it's been hard but thanks to the LINE app we communicate as much as possible and keep the doors open that way. When you live with an Aussie you pick up the slang and you know it wasn't meant to hurt or upset. In any case Aussies aren't very formal. So if you hook up with an Aussie you got to accept this. Hello Ryan, thank you for the 10 topics. I'm together with my Thai woman for 5 y and I can 100% support your topics to be spot on. I would add to your language part (No. 9) that we as western man have to take into account that Thais if they do not understand what we say, they do not ask back and ask us to rephrase it. This is the training in school that the teacher says something and no student is expected to ask or dare to challenge it. So be prepared to make sure that she did understand what you said or be prepared for quite some quarrels just because of misunderstandings. I wish you all the best for your next 11y of your life with your wonderful wife.
Agreed on all points. I have been here 21 years, with the same lady for 20, married for 17. It might be worth drawing a comparison between an aspect of life in Bangkok vs upcountry. I live in a moo baan gated village in Bangkok but when I retire in the next few years will get the hell out of here. One thing I do not like about here is the nosy neighbour thing (global I know) but also the constant comparisons by Thai women in the never-ending 'my farang is richer than your farang' saga, constantly digging into your personal and particularly financial situation, my wife hates this also. Many of the women do little to occupy themselves and wander around the village gossiping and causing problems in the goldfish bowl we live in, albeit a nice house. As a farang you are fair game for far too much attention. Live up country a little if you can and be close but not too close to the family, which is what I am going to do.
Really appreciate the balanced view you shared. Nothing is always sunshine and roses and any relationship takes real work from both parties. Certainly a breath of fresh air from the negativity that tends to circulate most forums. I think if you’re looking for love in a Pattaya or Patong bar your chances of finding a meaningful relationship decrease exponentially
Great Video and I absolutely love your channel! Met my Thai Wife around 15 years ago and we are happily living since 10 Years in Switzerland. Could not agree more to the points that you mentioned. My Fist Year in the Relationship were quite crazy without having any clue about culture, language and on top of that Internet / Wifi were not as accessible as nowadays. She did not speak any English so I had to sit down and figure out how Thai works. We fought a lot in the beginning but that cleared all misunderstandings and we never had any issue ever since as there were no secrets or unclarities anymore. I only speak Thai to my wife, it's fluent but not 100% correct so we have something which is partially "our language". One point I would still mention in the top 10 is Money, as the Family is the center and that has it's cost. Guess I am "lucky" to have found even a solution for that so I don't really have to care about it too much. I would love to live in Thailand in some years but I guess I am to afraid to do what you do and just let it flow. Thanks for the Motivation and good spirit! Cheers!

Going back in 2 weeks, retiring from my job and moving to Thailand to be with her. Language is so very important like you said...google translate to the rescue a few times last year lol. if you are patient and have a good heart a relationship with a thai women is very rewarding.
Very positive and beautiful take on thai marriage, I’ve been with my girlfriend for 6 months, and met all her family, and everything you mention here, for me is absolutely bang on the money. It seems by this video you have a great life out there, and one in which I’d love myself to be honest. My own opinion about my girlfriend is that I’ve never met a more beautiful person inside and out, and we couldn’t be happier together. I will marry her in October of this year, and my family will meet her family, and we will have a little wedding. Then I reviewed my own town with that mindset. Long story short, I went to Thailand and found the people amazing, king and honest, not after my money and full of Aloha

This mirrors my experience as well mate, even living in the Uk with my wife for 9 years, she is from Issan as well. Whilst no situation is guaranteed it seems to be those meeting girls in the tourist resorts that leads to bigger problems……
I agree with most of it. Been together with my wife for more than 6 years now. My experience is that out of 4 relationships I have had with Thai people only my wife has been faithful. I have not met any bar woman and maybe I was just unlucky before or maybe the cheating you hear being the normal in Thai music and Thai series could play out an important role in that.

I appreciate your Insight. I forgot yesterday to say that I am from Florida in the US. Although I have never been out of the US have many friends here from around the world and truly appreciate all of them and their cultures. I find Americans in particular are very judgemental of other cultures or cultures they don't understand. I'm so anxious to travel and learn before I get any older. You really do give me a perspective on life that I appreciate. What I see is a great Freedom that you have in your farm life or country life even these covid days that is envious. Don't get that here in an expensive small apartment!

We share similar experiences. I came to Puerto Rico 63 years ago as a teenager, learned Spanish, studied here, fell in love with a beautiful Puerto Rican girl. We´ve been married for 54 years and have grown children and grandchildren. In all those years, I have become Puerto Rican. Whether you go around the world to live somewhere else or end up marrying the girl next door, one needs to work at maintaining relationships based on respect and love. I very much agree with you in regard to how some people seem to live to complain. Recently someone gave their very limited view about Puerto Rico and how he had been hoodwinked into believing in the "sunny" Caribbean. Turns out that the week he was here was in the middle of hurricane season and we had yet another near miss with cloudy skies and gusty winds. It happens all over; many of us make "expert" value judgements without knowing the whole story.

My pennapha loves to go into the jungle to hunt mushrooms and gather bamboo she takes such great pride in this. Also so into her garden and ponds .1000 cat fish and frogs they have become her babies and does not want to sell. Her snails have only been eaten once because her mom wanted some lol. But yet I love this lady with all of my heart
I think living in these climates you are more one with nature. My wife is a Filipina who grew up on the island of Mindanao. The windows and doors are open. The geckos live amongst you. The roosters are there. Giant bamboos grow along the roads. There are rice fields and jackfruit trees everywhere. You definitely live more with nature then people in Western temperate climates. My wife and I now live in central Florida and my wife has turned our small property in a little bit of south east Asia. There are 12 varieties of giant bamboo, teak benches for resting, lots of fruit trees and banana, passion fruit vines, star fruit etc.
I just came back from a 33 day trip to Thailand. Itt was wonderful. I did walk down a few of the wild Sois but didn't spend time in the bars. I met wonderful people,had no problems and am forever changed by the experience.

I have been going to Thailand for 25 years. I would like to share my stories. I first started going to Thailand in 1998. I met a wonderful Thai lady, I'll call her Toom, and saw her often. I was asked to return to my previous company, which I didn't want to do, but they asked me what it would take for me to come back. So I told them I wanted 6 weeks of vacation on the books for me to return - they gave it to me. That's when I started to go to Thailand. After, I started to work at a startup and couldn't go for 3 years. When I finally was able to return to Thailand, Toom took me to a friend of hers that was obviously high class, in a penthouse with a view of Bangkok. She sat me down, it seemed very formal, and her friend explained that there are some things a Thai lady cannot say and she would speak for Toom. This made me nervous. She asked me what were my intentions with Toom. I played dumb. Now I had known her for 7 years at this point, so she asked if I was going to ask Toom to marry her. I was going to go back to school and I didn't think it would be a good idea until I finished, so I said no. I meant maybe later, but that was that... The next day, she wanted me to come down and speak to her, in front of the hotel I was staying at. With her friend next to her, she said a few things in Thai and left. I had made her lose face with her friend and embarrassed her (my words), BUT, even though she wouldn't see me for 5 years, we had the same birthday and she calls me every year to say hello and she missed me - but she wouldn't see me. I understood that I had hurt her, but she still loved me and loves me to this day. Then I met my fiance. I met her when I rented a motorbike and just drove around looking at areas outside of the center. I got a haircut at a barber for $1.50 and that's when I met I'll call Woom. I came back every couple of days and got a haircut and just talked to her. Wonderful Thail lady. I wound up not going back to school and visiting Thailand. Toom wanted to see me after 5 years so I agreed. When we met, I repeated to her that I had a girlfriend and even though I still loved her, I could not be intimate but would like to go out with her. She told me she would like to speak to Woom. I was floored, but I called Woom and told her someone wanted to speak to her. (I still can't believe I gave her the phone). She spoke to Woom for a couple of minutes and I'm thinking, what have I done? what is she saying? ... She then just listens for a bit and keeps saying, "ka, ka, ka" and hangs up. Without hesitation, I called Woom and asked her what Toom said. Woom tells me that Toom told her that she has loved me for a long time and asked her permission to see me one last time. she agreed, but Toom could not see me again. Woom then said she likes that another Thai lady loved me - Is this a great place or what? Until 15 years later, Toom would not see me again but still calls and says hello. That night, she told me she wanted to do something special for me. I won't say what she did, but I will say that the other lady took me aside after and told me that Toom loves me very much. I still get teared up thinking about this. Woom has never mentioned it. But wait, there's ONE more. So after Woom turned 40, she sat me down, as Toom did so many years ago, so I knew it was serious. She tells me that she knows I want children but she could not do that for me. She said I should find a nice young Thai lady and get married and have kids. BUT SHE CAN NOT know. I like to go out to the bars and go out with her, but she is all I want and don't wander. Besides, she has a foolproof method of determining whether I've been cheating which she administers as soon as I see her. I still don't understand how this works. I am certain that none of these things an American lady would do.d
Couldn't agree more. The Thai culture reminds me of what life used to be like in the 60's where the US was more family oriented - the nuclear family was king then. All the more I love Thailand and its lovely culture people.
Like most of you here I'm in a lucky 27 year relationship with my Thai wife,from Isan.We met in Australia but I love Thailand as much as I love being here and we plan to split our time between here and Thailand in coming years.She brought a calmness to my life in my mid 30's and has a heart of gold with that tough Thai streak coming to the surface when required. I'm actually surprised that you didn't mention the one big negative trap that so many "farang" fall into..The Thai wife who places money at the head of the line,often when they are from the bar-girl scene in Thailand.Many a man has spent up big on a house in Thailand,a motor cycle for the brother,visas to come to Australia and much more only to have his "beloved" take it all. If it's good it's GREAT,if not,it's a path to financial ruin for the gullible or unsuspecting. Remember,we can never really own anything in Thailand and TRUST when it comes to money is essential. Can't wait to get back in July 2022 after 3 years of covid19 craziness.

Thank you for you perspective! I have been in an online relationship with my Thai lady for over 17 months now. We use translation software to chat. But we chat almost everyday... for hours and hours! What you said about them loving without concern for looks or age seems to be very true 👍 I am 62 and she is 22. But somehow it is not an issue for us. When we are together ... all differences seem to be meaningless. All of the things mentioned seems to be true. I am very happy with her. I feel like I found my soul mate. So if things continue to work out for us, then I will be joining you in Thailand next year! ...

Came to Thailand 2020 for the first time and met my Thai girlfriend we kept in contact while this poxy pandemic went on, I’m back in in Thailand now staying for 3 month with her family and the first hurdle without prior knowledge I overcame with ease her dad thinks I’m the dogs bollocks and her sisters all fall over themselves to get me to eat which brings me to the next hurdle I will eat anything and I do like my spicy food so not a problem there as I’m staying way out in the countryside ( Lahan sai )

My American neighbor at my guest house was telling me to check out YT for horror stories about marrying Thai women and your's was the first one I saw. Now I am more confused. But life is an adventure and life in Thailand is an exotic adventure. Thai people are decent, calm, honest, tolerant, ready to help you out if they can - rather than rip you off if they can, as in so many parts of America.

I married a Thai girl 22 years ago. She was a pharmacist there and became one in the US too. We have a daughter who is attending one of the top ranked high schools in the world and is making As and Bs. She’s probably smarter than my wife or I. One thing most visitors don’t realize is that the most intelligent people in the world are SE Asians and Ashkenazi Jews. Every Thai I’ve known in America makes something of themselves and rises up. Being married to a lady from a vastly different culture is going to be a challenge for both of you.
Cool story - it’s been 15 years, not a challenge - a delight. My wife is an international banker and now has her own clothing line, her sisters are in Japanese export, they own over 30 acres of land, a condo, 3 houses and are very happy 👍

seems a good and fair summary I would add timings, just dont expect it work in the same way I ask when we are leaving and answer is "when we are ready" this seems to be anywhere between the next 2 mins or 8 hours Also a lot of "up to you" which really means you have to guess and they often approach tings from a different prospective Overall makes for an interesting and rewarding experiences in some of the kindest people

When ever I visited Bangkok the people treated me and my partner very well and with respect by going out of their ways. They are very accommodating and very gracious. Unlike the way the American mistreating their foreign visitors.

HI ,My wife is from Vientiane Lao . I'm now 74 and she is 45 and we have been married nearly 23 years. Age has not been a problem in our lives either in the US or in Lao. She is so easy to get along with. As the Lao saying Ba Pin Yang or no problem. I have enough income for us to live fine but she has to work because she needs her money for her family and it can't come from our money as I like to say. Times is different for the Lao. Things a re a bit in slow motion and it can drive you crazy if you let it. As a westerner I had to change my way of seeing time. For the good. Life is food. Buying, growing, fixing and eating. It takes up a lot of time. The eating at ur house is a blend of Lao, American and a bunch of cultures thrown in. Everyone wants to eat at our house. The past 23 years have been the best. Love her family and they loves us back. Life doesn't't get much better. A channel you may want to watch is NOW IN LAO. Aussie who lives in Lao. Similar but different than yours . Great points. I have 2 kids with my Thai partner and after 15 years so far so good. However after living in Thailand for a long time I have seen very few long term success stories between Thais and westerners. The culture and language are just too much of a barrier.
Same thing with westerners/eastern Europeans. More so the cultural barrier. Western guys dont realize how big it is UNTIL they start dating them. Even the women who prioritize foreigners still want a guy with 'local mentality'. Meaning he pays for basically everything, and is the main decision maker. And usually has to dress/look more or less like local men.

Hi, Ryan. It's funny how my Chinese lady is very similar to your descriptions of Thai women. Her entire family lives here in Massachusetts and I know them all well. I am 62 and she is 56 and we don't have any kids from the two of us together. She calls her mother around 10 times a day. She is also a "complainer" and every day I hear how her neck hurts, her fingers hurt and so on. It is a mutual thing also because I also complain about my aches and pains...lol. The funny thing is her entire family loves extremely spicy food except for her. They all know that if we are coming over they must cook a portion without any spices for her. I can deal with it sometimes. And some times I have no idea what they are eating. So I guess a lot of it is an Asian thing. Cheers!

Wow! I have only been a foreigner visiting many parts of Thailand as a tourist and I can absolutely agree to most of what you say in this video about Thai people. What really got me was, playful, not so serious, the heart and in my experience, very friendly with a smile (be it a facade or not). Also, I agree, the way YOU behave will have the absolute same feedback to YOU. I try to have a good time and be friendly/kind and have met a lot of GREAT people here. Some which I still chat with from time to time and most of the time it's not initiated from me. If I had the resources I would move there in a heartbeat for a lot of reasons. One other thing, they seem to have the memory of an elephant. The treatment I have got from some although I may have forgot is mindblowing. Thanks!
Love Your content,the vids and I found this new channel today.I come from the countryside in the East West Of Malaysia called Borneo Island.We do planting,padi field and lots of walking in the jungles.That’s how we live.There is no electricity.Water supply straight from the top mountain.We don’t buy fish,we catch it straight from the river,lot of hardworks indeed.We grow lots of fruits and We do raising a pig.Our house surrounded by the jungles.We do receive a surprise visit with a snake in the toilet and went into the house sometime. In all that time she's never attacked me on a personal level, cut me down, called me a name, or shared any of my negative traits or my past with her friends or family. That's simply unreal in my book. Her family loves me more than my own family does by far, and they are a joy to be around. I've never met a better person than my wife in my entire life.

This echos exactly how I feel. I'm getting married soon to my Thai fiancé and I've never been happier. It is just an amazing, committed, and mutually respectful relationship. Went through countless relationships with girls back home where I just like I could never be myself and was always playing some sort of game with them. Began to think that I was never going to get to be happy but here I am and I can't quite believe it's possible!
My wife is a Filipina and my experiences are very similar. We have been married a little over 50 years. Still going strong.

I do, as well. But, I dont really agree with the culture of supporting a wife's family. Its not really usual in the rest of the world. In eastern Europe, for instance, the families are way too proud to ask. And, if a woman does say "I need money for my family" it very well could be a scam.

I hate the stories of the guys who go straight to the bar girls and get upset when these girls are not standing around waiting for them to send back a few hundred dollars.. These women take care of their families the best way they can and if you don’t understand that you shouldn’t fall in love or try to date a thai woman.. If you want a strong relationship you have to except the fact that Financial Security and stability is first and love will come as a result.. Thats definitely part of the culture, sure. But, you should be married or at least living with her first. I doubt local Thai men support a woman's family, UNLESS they are already married. Also, you can value financial security/stability without asking a man to provide for your family. Eastern European women have it difficult too, and they rarely ask their man to support their family. If they do its often a scam (but not always). Also, you said 'the bar girls dont stand around waiting'. Do you mean they expect hundreds of dollars immediately? Or only after falling in love? I can understand the latter, but definitely not the former. No man should give that much money to a woman when they're just starting dating. Ans especially when they literally just met.

Im a foreigner whos lived in Thailand many years. Also dated Thai women and fell in love with one once. But my experience with her and other mixed Thai-farang relationships Ive observed convinced me that my personality and cultural-educational differences would always clash with Thai mentality. One Thai lady I dated came from a wealthy family and was well traveled. But her emotional instability and nationalism turned me off to the max.
One important thing that you should keep in mind when discussing Thai dowry is that its amount is based on your Thai fiancee’s status, education, occupation and other related social background information (such as her virginity). An average middle-class, university-educated Thai lady deserves a dowry of 100,000- 300,000 baht. A dowry of a million baht for an uneducated lady of modest means is just ridiculous. Thai dowry prices fall drastically if your bride-to-be has been previously married, already has children, or is not a virgin anymore. In fact in most of these instances, no dowry deserves to be paid.
Thai dowry, however, is usually symbolic in nature and will normally be returned to the married couple after the wedding, so as to help them start on their new life.
Many foreigners have these opinions because of you Thai women fucking these foreigners over for money. Generalization are never good but the vast majority of Thai women really do fit the stereotype.
100% concur. I too live rural with my Thai wife, next to her family. She and they are so great. I feel their love and concern for me every, single day. I know where I stand on the pecking order of things and I’m totally okay with that.
From the perspective of one old American who has been married to a Thai lady for over 46 years now, I agree with all your points. Life ain’t easy, especially when we combine two very different cultures. That relationship will be challenging and require a large amount of work, compromise and love if it is to endure and thrive. Thank you! Really great insight. My Thai wife is from a village in Uttaradit. We will live there in a couple of years, and we live in the US presently. We have been married for 3 years. I think that it cannot be stated strongly enough that family comes first for most Thai women. My wife works hard and sends at least half of her money home every month, helps her mother and father, helps put her nephew through school, etc. She feels that it is her duty, and she does what she feels is right. It is part of her character that I love about her. Many of the women from the villages in Thailand have traditional conservative Buddhist values, which I find very appealing (I am also Buddhist). So, I am not number one on her list, probably not 2 or 3 even! At the same time, I also know that if she needs to take care of me for some reason, she will be there for me. I think many westerners do not fully appreciate how a collectivist culture works, and there is definitely beauty in it.

Don't underestimate yourself. You might not be nr. 1 (her parents most likely have this spot) but you definitely are not 3rd or lower
that sounds crap, you become family when you marry her, etc. so both her immediate family and you should be number one.
This is great! My (Thai) wife and I had a good laugh - she asks every day "Are you hungry?".... Although, having been to all 50 American states (I was born in NYC, lived in Alaska, etc). I can attest to the fact that the entire country has tons of poverty, broken families, and bad food... I'd say in the USA, you have to really try hard to find the good people, and the bad ones are in your face (because they enjoy getting in your face). In Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, etc, all you've got to do is get just slightly off the tourist-trap-track, and have a legitimate reason to be there, and the nice people seek you out. I've never even been to Koh Samui, Phuket, etc... Living a more rural life, just like you and your family. My wife is great - she's a hard-working housewife, but she also helps me with my business, and she doesn't suffer fools lightly! Peace!

You hit the nail on the head with your generalisation about a relationship with a Thai. I made a mistake with my wife in the early stages of our relationship by not understanding the importance of food when walking through a market. Being a farang I just assumed that you eat three times a day and didn't understand that Thai's can graze all day, so whenever I am with my wife anywhere especially around food to make sure we stop and buy something. I thought your blog was a very informative and helpful especially for a first time relationship and I agree just like any relationship you have to work with your partner. Because of this world wide crisis I haven't seen my wife for at least two years, me stuck in Australia and her stuck in Lopburi Thailand it's been hard but thanks to the LINE app we communicate as much as possible and keep the doors open that way. Hello Ryan, thank you for the 10 topics. I'm together with my Thai woman for 5 y and I can 100% support your topics to be spot on. I would add to your language part (No. 9) that we as western man have to take into account that Thais if they do not understand what we say, they do not ask back and ask us to rephrase it. This is the training in school that the teacher says something and no student is expected to ask or dare to challenge it. So be prepared to make sure that she did understand what you said or be prepared for quite some quarrels just because of misunderstandings. Agreed on all points. I have been here 21 years, with the same lady for 20, married for 17. It might be worth drawing a comparison between an aspect of life in Bangkok vs upcountry. I live in a moo baan gated village in Bangkok but when I retire in the next few years will get the hell out of here. One thing I do not like about here is the nosy neighbour thing (global I know) but also the constant comparisons by Thai women in the never-ending 'my farang is richer than your farang' saga, constantly digging into your personal and particularly financial situation, my wife hates this also. Many of the women do little to occupy themselves and wander around the village gossiping and causing problems in the goldfish bowl we live in, albeit a nice house. As a farang you are fair game for far too much attention. Live up country a little if you can and be close but not too close to the family, which is what I am going to do.
Really appreciate the balanced view you shared. Nothing is always sunshine and roses and any relationship takes real work from both parties. Certainly a breath of fresh air from the negativity that tends to circulate most forums. I think if you’re looking for love in a Pattaya or Patong bar your chances of finding a meaningful relationship decrease exponentially
Great Video and I absolutely love your channel! Met my Thai Wife around 15 years ago and we are happily living since 10 Years in Switzerland. Could not agree more to the points that you mentioned. My Fist Year in the Relationship were quite crazy without having any clue about culture, language and on top of that Internet / Wifi were not as accessible as nowadays. She did not speak any English so I had to sit down and figure out how Thai works. We fought a lot in the beginning but that cleared all misunderstandings and we never had any issue ever since as there were no secrets or unclarities anymore. I only speak Thai to my wife, it's fluent but not 100% correct so we have something which is partially "our language".
One point I would still mention in the top 10 is Money, as the Family is the center and that has it's cost. Guess I am "lucky" to have found even a solution for that so I don't really have to care about it too much. I would love to live in Thailand in some years but I guess I am to afraid to do what you do and just let it flow. Thanks for the Motivation and good spirit! Cheers!

It seems by this video you have a great life out there, and one in which I’d love myself to be honest.

I agree with most of it. Been together with my wife for more than 6 years now. My experience is that out of 4 relationships I have had with Thai people only my wife has been faithful. I have not met any bar woman and maybe I was just unlucky before or maybe the cheating you hear being the normal in Thai music and Thai series could play out an important role in that.

We share similar experiences. I came to Puerto Rico 63 years ago as a teenager, learned Spanish, studied here, fell in love with a beautiful Puerto Rican girl. We´ve been married for 54 years and have grown children and grandchildren. In all those years, I have become Puerto Rican. Whether you go around the world to live somewhere else or end up marrying the girl next door, one needs to work at maintaining relationships based on respect and love. I very much agree with you in regard to how some people seem to live to complain. Recently someone gave their very limited view about Puerto Rico and how he had been hoodwinked into believing in the "sunny" Caribbean. Turns out that the week he was here was in the middle of hurricane season and we had yet another near miss with cloudy skies and gusty winds. It happens all over; many of us make "expert" value judgements without knowing the whole story.
I've meet my fiancee exactly 2 years ago while visiting Thailand for my first time. Since then we are together,we got engaged) and we are living together with her parents witch are amazing person's. U r right..locals love playing lottery or huay Tai Din (underground lottery) in addition to government lottery. Same as office girls.
My pennapha loves to go into the jungle to hunt mushrooms and gather bamboo she takes such great pride in this. Also so into her garden and ponds .1000 cat fish and frogs they have become her babies and does not want to sell. Her snails have only been eaten once because her mom wanted some lol. But yet I love this lady with all of my heart

I think living in these climates you are more one with nature. My wife is a Filipina who grew up on the island of Mindanao. The windows and doors are open. The geckos live amongst you. The roosters are there. Giant bamboos grow along the roads. There are rice fields and jackfruit trees everywhere. You definitely live more with nature then people in Western temperate climates. My wife and I now live in central Florida and my wife has turned our small property in a little bit of south east Asia. There are 12 varieties of giant bamboo, teak benches for resting, lots of fruit trees and banana, passion fruit vines, star fruit etc.
I just came back from a 33 day trip to Thailand. Itt was wonderful. I did walk down a few of the wild Sois but didn't spend time in the bars. I met wonderful people,had no problems and am forever changed by the experience.
Just found (subscribed) your channel .Love the laid back attitude .I have a home in That Phanom (BAN NAM BAM ) but due to work and covid i have been stuck away from my thai wife and family for over a year here in the UK Thanks for returning some sanity and hope to my head. I will keep viewing .

I have been going to Thailand for 25 years. I would like to share my stories. I first started going to Thailand in 1998. I met a wonderful Thai lady, I'll call her Toom, and saw her often. I was asked to return to my previous company, which I didn't want to do, but they asked me what it would take for me to come back. So I told them I wanted 6 weeks of vacation on the books for me to return - they gave it to me. That's when I started to go to Thailand. After, I started to work at a startup and couldn't go for 3 years.
When I finally was able to return to Thailand, Toom took me to a friend of hers that was obviously high class, in a penthouse with a view of Bangkok. She sat me down, it seemed very formal, and her friend explained that there are some things a Thai lady cannot say and she would speak for Toom. This made me nervous. She asked me what were my intentions with Toom. I played dumb. Now I had known her for 7 years at this point, so she asked if I was going to ask Toom to marry her. I was going to go back to school and I didn't think it would be a good idea until I finished, so I said no. I meant maybe later, but that was that... The next day, she wanted me to come down and speak to her, in front of the hotel I was staying at. With her friend next to her, she said a few things in Thai and left. I had made her lose face with her friend and embarrassed her (my words), BUT, even though she wouldn't see me for 5 years, we had the same birthday and she calls me every year to say hello and she missed me - but she wouldn't see me. I understood that I had hurt her, but she still loved me and loves me to this day.
Then I met my fiance. I met her when I rented a motorbike and just drove around looking at areas outside of the center. I got a haircut at a barber for $1.50 and that's when I met I'll call Woom. I came back every couple of days and got a haircut and just talked to her. Wonderful Thail lady. I wound up not going back to school and visiting Thailand. Toom wanted to see me after 5 years so I agreed. When we met, I repeated to her that I had a girlfriend and even though I still loved her, I could not be intimate but would like to go out with her. She told me she would like to speak to Woom. I was floored, but I called Woom and told her someone wanted to speak to her. (I still can't believe I gave her the phone). She spoke to Woom for a couple of minutes and I'm thinking, what have I done? what is she saying? ... She then just listens for a bit and keeps saying, "ka, ka, ka" and hangs up. Without hesitation, I called Woom and asked her what Toom said. Woom tells me that Toom told her that she has loved me for a long time and asked her permission to see me one last time. she agreed, but Toom could not see me again. Woom then said she likes that another Thai lady loved me - Is this a great place or what? Until 15 years later, Toom would not see me again but still calls and says hello. That night, she told me she wanted to do something special for me. I won't say what she did, but I will say that the other lady took me aside after and told me that Toom loves me very much. I still get teared up thinking about this. Woom has never mentioned it.
But wait, there's ONE more.
So after Woom turned 40, she sat me down, as Toom did so many years ago, so I knew it was serious. She tells me that she knows I want children but she could not do that for me. She said I should find a nice young Thai lady and get married and have kids. BUT SHE CAN NOT know. I like to go out to the bars and go out with her, but she is all I want and don't wander. Besides, she has a foolproof method of determining whether I've been cheating which she administers as soon as I see her. I still don't understand how this works.
I am certain that none of these things an American lady would do.d

Couldn't agree more. The Thai culture reminds me of what life used to be like in the 60's where the US was more family oriented - the nuclear family was king then. All the more I love Thailand and its lovely culture people.
Like most of you here I'm in a lucky 27 year relationship with my Thai wife,from Isan.We met in Australia but I love Thailand as much as I love being here and we plan to split our time between here and Thailand in coming years.She brought a calmness to my life in my mid 30's and has a heart of gold with that tough Thai streak coming to the surface when required.
I'm actually surprised that you didn't mention the one big negative trap that so many "farang" fall into..The Thai wife who places money at the head of the line,often when they are from the bar-girl scene in Thailand.Many a man has spent up big on a house in Thailand,a motor cycle for the brother,visas to come to Australia and much more only to have his "beloved" take it all.
If it's good it's GREAT,if not,it's a path to financial ruin for the gullible or unsuspecting.
Remember,we can never really own anything in Thailand and TRUST when it comes to money is essential.
Can't wait to get back in July 2022 after 3 years of covid19 craziness.

What you said about them loving without concern for looks or age seems to be very true 👍 I am 62 and she is 22. But somehow it is not an issue for us.

I grew up in South Asia. Pretty much the same. Its changing though. If you compare big cities with villages/small towns, you can see the difference.
Came to Thailand 2020 for the first time and met my Thai girlfriend we kept in contact while this poxy pandemic went on, I’m back in in Thailand now staying for 3 month with her family and the first hurdle without prior knowledge I overcame with ease her dad thinks I’m the dogs bollocks and her sisters all fall over themselves to get me to eat which brings me to the next hurdle I will eat anything and I do like my spicy food so not a problem there as I’m staying way out in the countryside ( Lahan sai )

Very nice video. I am on track to get married soon - like this fall. My American neighbor at my guest house was telling me to check out YT for horror stories about marrying Thai women and your's was the first one I saw. Now I am more confused. But life is an adventure and life in Thailand is an exotic adventure. Thai people are decent, calm, honest, tolerant, ready to help you out if they can - rather than rip you off if they can, as in so many parts of America.
Lived here for 17 years, married with a fantastic woman for 14, seen and heard my share, but you are the first ever I come across here on youtube, who hits the nail spot on, in particular your point 8. One new sub here. After 17 years in Chiang Mai, we are building house in Kalasin, and will move this year. Looking forward to it.

I married a Thai girl 22 years ago. She was a pharmacist there and became one in the US too. We have a daughter who is attending one of the top ranked high schools in the world and is making As and Bs. She’s probably smarter than my wife or I. One thing most visitors don’t realize is that the most intelligent people in the world are SE Asians and Ashkenazi Jews. Every Thai I’ve known in America makes something of themselves and rises up. Being married to a lady from a vastly different culture is going to be a challenge for both of you.
Cool story - it’s been 15 years, not a challenge - a delight. My wife is an international banker and now has her own clothing line, her sisters are in Japanese export, they own over 30 acres of land, a condo, 3 houses and are very happy 👍
My wife had some Thai friends from her uni days in Australia, she has nothing but good things to say about them.
Life has blossomed for me with my 12 year relationship with Nid, we are finally getting married in Feb 2023 as I approch my 60s I love the whole thing

seems a good and fair summary I would add timings, just dont expect it work in the same way I ask when we are leaving and answer is "when we are ready" this seems to be anywhere between the next 2 mins or 8 hours Also a lot of "up to you" which really means you have to guess and they often approach tings from a different prospective Overall makes for an interesting and rewarding experiences in some of the kindest people

HI ,My wife is from Vientiane Lao . I'm now 74 and she is 45 and we have been married nearly 23 years. Age has not been a problem in our lives either in the US or in Lao. She is so easy to get along with. As the Lao saying Ba Pin Yang or no problem. I have enough income for us to live fine but she has to work because she needs her money for her family and it can't come from our money as I like to say. Times is different for the Lao. Things a re a bit in slow motion and it can drive you crazy if you let it. As a westerner I had to change my way of seeing time. For the good. Life is food. Buying, growing, fixing and eating. It takes up a lot of time. The eating at ur house is a blend of Lao, American and a bunch of cultures thrown in. Everyone wants to eat at our house. The past 23 years have been the best. Love her family and they loves us back. Life doesn't't get much better. A channel you may want to watch is NOW IN LAO. Aussie who lives in Lao. Similar but different than yours . I enjoy your videos as they are real life. As you say not the travel blogs. Life is good .Peace

Great points. I have 2 kids with my Thai partner and after 15 years so far so good. However after living in Thailand for a long time I have seen very few long term success stories between Thais and westerners. The culture and language are just too much of a barrier.

Same thing with westerners/eastern Europeans. More so the cultural barrier. Western guys dont realize how big it is UNTIL they start dating them. Even the women who prioritize foreigners still want a guy with 'local mentality'. Meaning he pays for basically everything, and is the main decision maker. And usually has to dress/look more or less like local men.
You hit it on the nails I’m with a thai women married her and every thing you said is 100% right she lives in Thailand and I’m in America but only reason why is because she wants to come to America to work but we will retire back in Thailand. Love the channel, friend of Bills here, recovery big part of my life. Married A Thai woman 27 years ago, did not work out, she returned to Thailand, I raised our daughter since 6 months old. Mom chooses to not be part of her life, nothing against Thai woman, divorce happens all over the world.

Hi, Ryan. It's funny how my Chinese lady is very similar to your descriptions of Thai women. Her entire family lives here in Massachusetts and I know them all well. I am 62 and she is 56 and we don't have any kids from the two of us together. She calls her mother around 10 times a day. She is also a "complainer" and every day I hear how her neck hurts, her fingers hurt and so on. It is a mutual thing also because I also complain about my aches and pains...lol. The funny thing is her entire family loves extremely spicy food except for her. They all know that if we are coming over they must cook a portion without any spices for her. I can deal with it sometimes. And some times I have no idea what they are eating. So I guess a lot of it is an Asian thing. Cheers!

Wow! I have only been a foreigner visiting many parts of Thailand as a tourist and I can absolutely agree to most of what
you say in this video about Thai people.
What really got me was, playful, not so serious, the heart and in my experience, very friendly with a smile (be it a facade or not).
Also, I agree, the way YOU behave will have the absolute same feedback to YOU. I try to have a good time
and be friendly/kind and have met a lot of GREAT people here. Some which I still chat with from time to time and most of the time
it's not initiated from me. If I had the resources I would move there in a heartbeat for a lot of reasons.
One other thing, they seem to have the memory of an elephant. The treatment I have got from some although I may have
forgot is mindblowing.

Love Your content,the vids and I found this new channel today.I come from the countryside in the East West Of Malaysia called Borneo Island.We do planting,padi field and lots of walking in the jungles.That’s how we live.There is no electricity.Water supply straight from the top mountain.We don’t buy fish,we catch it straight from the river,lot of hardworks indeed.We grow lots of fruits and We do raising a pig.Our house surrounded by the jungles.We do receive a surprise visit with a snake in the toilet and went into the house sometime.
