My feelings about Hans Zimmer have only become more intense by watching this video. There will be a time before, and a time since “Zim Daddy”.
😂 😂
i love me some zim daddy
🫡#ZimDaddy
I'm honestly having some disturbing memories about super monkey ball music, weird muzak and 3-star holiday resort channel 0 vibes with the odd amen break. I may have zoned out and lost many days in between monkey golf holes with that infuriating golf music
ZIM DADDY
Oh, man! [NDA] is my favourite game franchise! So hyped that you're working on it!
I know right?! I like that
[ _message redacted_ ]
Emily's Dead Space music is way more intense than the original. It would really make that boss fight scarier.
I loved your Dead Space section! It was very Metroid
Thanks so much!
Can this be a series PLEASE!?!?
Yes! More coming soon with extra twists!
@@emilyharpist this is such an interesting exercise. I might try this to gauge the emotional context of different modes, on top of FX chains for piano
As someone who is learning more about composing and sync - this video is inspiring me to do this with VSTS only lol @@emilyharpist - don’t have the analog modular/ synth/ pedal money quite yet . You're amazing!
I don't know why I am surprised to learn you have scored things. I just have thought all along, "Wow, she must be doing a kickass job with UA-cam and weddings to own that much cool gear," but of course you have. I want to say "I'm proud of you," but that comes off creepy and sounds like the old man with two kids in college that I am. So I'll say, "That's so awesome!" instead!
hahahah thank you so much, Jesse!!! 🥰❤️ I really appreciate you!!
😂 Steve Reich as the Super Monkey Ball composer is canon in my brain now- olive it!
Lmfaoooo
Ever since I started watching your videos I've noticed how much of a great melody writer you are, so it makes me incredibly happy to hear you've been composing for games/movies! I can't wait to hear all the new compositions you create 🙌🙌
It's really amazing how you have an idea and know pretty much how to get the sound you want quickly with your insane amount of gear. And your compositions were really damn close to the originals! You depicted the vibe of each game section perfectly like the composers did.
I am so excited that you're doing video game music! I can't wait to learn what game you did.
It’s an indie survival horror game!
@@emilyharpist not typically my genre of game, but I will be there day 1 to buy and play it.
Holy sh#t you're really good at this! Especially the 2D game you did was a really good soundtrack. Definitely whichever gamedev randomly stumbles upon this video, they're gonna be in your DMs with an offer for writing a soundtrack, I'm sure.
That last soundtrack you did was on point!......olives.
😂
I like your compositions better than the originals! It's the best thing ever that you're getting picked to compose these projects, and I can see a huge future in this for you!
I do a lot of composing (not for games but for podcasts actually) - just wanted to say you’re killing it with this stuff. It’s nothing like the approach that the other composers you heard used and that’s a GOOD thing. The music that’s in the games is cool and it totally works, but I think your music sounds much more “now” and is aesthetically on point. Hope to hear much more!
Thanks so much Casey!
Now imagine olives spiked on each of those tentacles. Oh the horror!
russ's true nightmare 🫒
wow that's really really good. Also I like how Russ is all "let's try this" and then it's amazing
Russ knows his sound design, most definitely🫡
I love the axolotl themed outfit
Thank you!
Man, these reimagined soundtracks sure are tasty, yummy yummy in our tummies and absolutely not forced into us ❤ right Russ?
lmfaoooo
I'm so happy for your success!
Thanks so much, Binface! Always so great to see you in the comments again! 😊
The Dead Space soundtrack you made sounded awesome! Really cool how the distortion kicked in when the tentacle grabed the other person.
hahah thank you so much!! 🥰❤️
I could listen to these tracks for hours, it's SO GOOD EMILY.
ahhhh tHANK YOU!!! 🥰❤️
Olive you both so much! 🩷
🫒
I *absolutely* love this video! It is an incredible direction to include with pedals - really shows how to use all your gear, and the scoring was really well done! Absolutely great work!
And the Zimmer, Glass, Reich section was hilarious 😂 favorite Hopkins video! A tall ladder to climb, but this did it!
Thanks Brice! More videos like this coming soon :)
trying to think about how few people in the world would also find that funny. Like, how many people play video games but also listen to late 20th century experimental composers casually??
Russ, those olives sure looked tasty. Need to embrace the chaos more often. :-)

I love olives, but I also love hearing that you're moving into film and videogame scoring!
😂 🫒
What up, D- Fam! MoogerFooger in the house!!!
Trying out for the “Hypeman” position.
lmaooo YOU GOT THE JOB ❤️😂
olive the synth use for drums, overall I think you got the composing thing down! #JusticeForUncleEm
#justiceforuncleem
Olive to see your creative process! Also Zim daddy. We are all his shilldren.
❤️😂🫒
Olived this video! Fun creepy sounds and the Heavy Menace sounds immense!
This video increased my olive tolerance
are u sure? 🫒🫒🫒🫒🫒 how are u feeling now
That’s delicious yummy in my tummy.
Olive this video! I give it 4.5 out of 5 sick Russ’s. Olive the music you played too. It really hit me in the pit of my stomach. It didn’t feel like canned music at all!
lmaoooo
I'm here for all the olives!!!!
🫒
Its O L I V E T I M E 🫒🫦🫒
Love the Dead Space Comp! I would have guessed the use of some Dreadbox today!
Yess! I should use Dreadbox for the next one!
"Zim Daddy". LMAO Something tells me he would love that moniker. I know Olive it.
Lmfao olive it too
Watching you create soundscapes with pedals vs plugins puts you into some kind of 1990's Analog-Digital headspace. Its fascinating to watch you put together a sonic palette this way.
Olives olives olives, oh I love olives! Olives are so good! 🎵🫒🎵🫒
😂🫒
Scoring to picture blind is a fun challenge but so difficult as context is everything. Finding something unexpected that works though is a real joy in music making. Have fun!
Your last one would fit perfectly into the "Hyperlight Drifter" Ost. I liked it a lot.
omg that's a huge compliment, i LOVE Hyperlight Drifter!! thank you so much! 🥰❤️
What a great concept for a video! I hope we get more of these.
You wanted to prove the "Bleep Bloop" comment wrong and started out with the most Bleepiest Bloopiest rythm section. :D
Loved your take on the Dead Space scene and I think it has more impact than the original score. The moment she gets killed his world shatters and everything goes wrong and surreal. At least that's what your soundtrack tells me. Much more on the emotional / psychcological side than the OST which is rather just BIG.
That second soundtrack was also an improvement. So much deeper layering and foreboding, also had a threatening vibe that would make me try to solve it as fast as I can.
This was a great advert for your composing talents and I hope you get a ton more projects and look forward to play something soon where I go "Wait, might this be a harp with a ton of effects? Let me check the credits."
edit: Yes please for Philip Glass game soundtracks.
This makes me happy! I didn't know my favorite pedal review channel could get cooler
soundtracks....i think olive you
Olive you too
I have great respect and high regard for the creators in this world. You are one of them!
Thank you so much!
I can only use my harp,, Harp has tones and tones of notes, and my music hardware, Has synths and lots of stomp boxes, Your covered for all the notes you need and all the sound design with that set up.
hahah i hope so!! more episodes like this coming soon, they're gonna get more and more difficult as they go!
Very cool stuff! For Dead Space, I think it needed some higher pace to create a sense of urgency and pressure, but the indie platformer thing was excellent.
One day, I'll tell my grandkids stories of the time a man ate an olive for the people.
🫒 🫒 🫒
So it's been a minute since I've watched one of your videos. But holy shit 171k subs and now you're scoring movies and video games! Congrats on all your success🎉
thank you so much, Scotty!!!! it's been a crazy journey for sure hahah I really appreciate you still being here with us! 🥰❤️
Russ, how’s that olive treating ya?
🫒
Still always makes me chuckle how you just grin through it and don't take yourself over seriously. The FIFA revelation (I won't spoil it here) had me chuckling big time! Who knew?!!!!
lmaoooo ISN'T THAT WILD ❤️😂 thanks so much for watching!!!
"What's next? Phillip Glass did Knack?" that got me real good.
😂
the platformer game sounded so good
thank you so much, Ethan!! appreciate you being here 🥰❤️
what a stooky video as per usual, love how you approach on composing it without any knowledge what so ever. Anyways hope you all have a stooky day/night...
Here is a poem of some kind brought to you by CHATGPT:
As the curtains draw back and the music swells,
A table of olives appears with a story to tell.
"OLIVES!" a voice whispers in the dark,
"Let me tell you why they leave such a mark."
Olives are not just a mere addition,
They bring complexity and depth, an acquired affliction.
Their taste is bitter, salty, and sour,
But it's the memories they evoke that hold the power.
The texture is chewy, but that's not all,
It's an acquired taste, that some may recall.
And the cult following they have is a mystery,
Because once you've tasted them, they become a part of your history.
The olive industry has its problems, that's true,
But it's the flavour they bring that will see you through.
So let's raise a glass to the elusive olive,
For all the memories and emotions they stir up.
As the haunting music plays and the audience waits,
The olives on stage disappear, their legacy not to abate.
For they know they will always be remembered,
As a taste that was acquired and not surrendered.
EPIC! Stay stooky!
I sampled your 'creepy strings' (nothing commercial, just for fun) and hit 1 and 2 octaves lower....OH WOW! what a texture!
1 octave down sounds like some Boris Karloff, Frankenstein score, and 2 down is just a long drawn out texture of ominousness. This is a great video, so creative!
That’s so amazing!! I bet it sounds incredible haha maybe I’ll try shifting it an octave down!
Congrats girl, you deserve it ⭐ Scoring has always been my dream, I wanted to go to Berklee for Film Scoring when I was younger, but life was like "nah, you gonna have to grind it out on the Tube." Stay fly and keep being you ❤
Russ, where the olives at?
🫒
Yes! You totally should!
I adore the earrings in todays episode too!
thank you so much!!! they were like $5 at Hot Topic!! ❤️😂
These videos give me a reason to olive and branch out 🕊️
🫒
When I saw INMOST I got so excited, it’s such a good game with such a good soundtrack!! I absolutely love what you did with it, it was incredible
I’m so stoked that you’re scoring games & stuff, dude!! Glad to see all your hard work pay off & talent being used more extensively!!! I like the music & videos y’all are already making, but I instantly wondered what a video game scored by you would be like once I heard your music. So this is just awesome!
Thanks Richard! It's been so much fun! I really appreciate you
Your compositions are perfection! Congrats on these huge new opportunities, as well! 🥳 also, this vid was so fun to watch. Almost felt like you were cooking and the pedals were the ingredients. 🤩
Thanks Lily!
Honestly what blows my mind is your knowledge of all your pedals. You have so many pedals that are unique and relatively complex, yet you seem to be comfortable with knowing what sounds you can get out of all of them, and even how you can combine them to create sounds.
3:49 I'm all for this. Experimental composers should score video games! But not serious "gamer" games, just quickie games that they would play for five minutes. And then I want Glass and the Kronos Quartet to tour with it and play it live while a little kid's speedrun projects on the screen.
Russ eating olive, big octave eating boy, olive juice dripping down his mouth, he loves olives so much. Octave boy.
LMFAOOOOO BEAN BEAN ❤️😂
Russ suh dude! How's the olive hangover buddy? 😂❤
Not great 🫒 I can’t believe you’ve done this to me
😂 oh the problem is that you probably just like Kalamata olives instead. I'll make sure to send a jar or two ♥
Also you two are doing incredible work! I really really enjoyed this video!❤❤❤
SUH DUDE🫒✌️😎
You’re a creative genius Emily 👌🏼💫🎶 the diversity of sounds that you can conjure never ceases to amaze me 🤯💜
thanks so much!
If you want to suggest a game level for me to do this with in the future, there’s a new channel on my discord dedicated to requests for this new video series! bit.ly/Emcord
EPIC!!
That Dead Space track was awesome! loved especially whenever the track went crazy when they died.
These were great, I loved olive them!
🥰❤️🫒
this is such a genuinely good idea. Being able to do more video game related work without having to play the same requests constantly, getting a sneak peak behind your mindset and approach to scoring, and most of all having a unique and challenging excuse to throw the metaphorical kitchen sink of pedals at a task! love it, excellent work to both of you.
(P.S. Russ I won't forget what you did to that poor innocent olive on the night of 5/10/23, it's a day the history books will remember for decades to come)
#OliveOurShilldren🫡🫒✨😆
"Zim-Daddy! what's next Glass did Knack?" omfg I'm helpless like Russ, the zing just keeps going ...
❤️😂
really enjoyed this video, would love to see more stuff like this !
more to come!!! 🥰❤️
This takes me back to doing scoring projects in Music Production class in college. I always loved doing those because something about the visual aspect got you to think differently & gave you a structure to play off rather than just music on it's own, if that makes sense. Doing this is also a good way to practice as well. I've done a lot of those practice scores.
I still hope I can get scoring work some time soon. Half the trouble is just getting contacts and having good friends that industry that wanna support you.
The Dead Space score had an ethereal dream-like feel, then when the distortion hit I got the sense of a dream turning into a full on nightmare. It kind of fits within the psychological horror theme of the game; in saying that I would love to see what you would come up with for the game 'Silent Hill.'
I noticed the thumbnail choice and want to say that this is legitimately my favorite UA-cam channel. I trip over myself trying to watch your new releases, yes because I enjoy effect pedals and beep-boops, but also because Emily is a seriously talented and well-practiced musician and Russ is a tech wizard. The sense of humor and musicality you two share is a highlight of my week every time, don’t let the negativity directed towards you outweigh the gratitude and appreciation that many of us neglect to express. ❤
Yes, I just noticed the thumbnail choice right now. Was it different earlier? Because I don't recall seeing it. Then again, this channel has such good rep I click on it without even looking at the thumbnail. I do like that expression though.
Love the axolotl necklace
thank you so much!! I got it from "Chesca the Illustrator" 🥰❤️
I love the look into your composing style. Definitely learning some things from the way you think for my own playing :)
Em & Russ im just here at 2 o'clock in the morning to say olive you guys
🫒
I also agree that Darkstar = good
That one reminded me a little of Hollow Knight
I also did not know Hans Zimmer did FIFA
Just to clarify this is the answer I've waited 13hrs for right? You're a successful professional composer for soundtracks now? That's why you're so busy /exhausted. That's awesome! Congratulations! Couldn't have happened to a nicer harpist and sound engineer/producer. I'm going to try to sleep now. Remember Look after yourselves, you are your own biggest assets. Love to you both. Smock that wheat until we meet again.
Any chance of releasing the Inmost attempt? I love the atmosphere it has and need it in my music collection like yesterday.
Yes! Going to release it soon!
@@emilyharpist Well now my entire day has been made!
I hope this video land you more work Emily. Truly an inspiration to us all.
Thanks so much!
Soooo good!
🥰❤️
You Are Amazing!!
no u!! thank you so much! 🥰❤️
I took Hans Zimmer’s masterclass and he never mentioned that. Evidently didn’t consider the trivia audience…
Lmfaooo Hans Zimmer’s highest profile work is FIFA 19, followed by Boss Baby™️
This was amazing! I like each of the rounds but Round 3 (Inmost) was my favorite.
Thanks Phil! I loved that one the most too I think haha
that Dead Space track has me even more convinced that Emily should be the composer for that Retro Studio metroid game (if it ever comes out...)
its never coming out lmaooo
@@emilyharpist 🤣 A BOY CAN DREAM, DAMMIT!!... but yeah, we're never gonna see that thing lmao
So impressed about your Inmost sound track. Love that game!
Thanks so much!
This is a freakin' great video! I love the premise, the execution, and the creative expression. I feel like this shows your creative mindset alongside the versatility of the tech you've accumulated and the potential of the harp.
I'd love to see this continued in a series. RPGs? Dating simulators? Tower defense games? MMO epic fights? I have so many individual game ideas!
One of my favorite videos so far, even more favored than olives. ★
We need a harp dating simulator
ALL OF THE YES.
great composition and no olives were hurt in the process!

Actually a cool vid that showcases what different pedal pairings can sound like in a creative perspective ❤
Thanks!
@@emilyharpist your welcome 🙏 love your work!

mwahahah ❤️😂🫒
Hans Zimmer???? 😂
Congrats by the way! So happy for you!
(Also this was a fun watch! Really love seeing composer challenges like this)
Dayyyyyymn…your take on Dead Space was absolutely killer! Haven’t played that game, but your take creeped me out far more than the original, which is stellar for a game like that.
I’m so glad the algorithm sent me your way tonight somehow. This was fun.
In dat second game you really captured the color dark green.
😂🫒
Awesome news! I'd actually commented on a couple of your videos that you should be doing soundtracks... because honestly a lot of your melodies were amazing. Glad to see that you're getting the opportunity!!!
These are really good. I love the creepy vibes of both scores. Especially the dead space one. Yours felt higher-stakes to me than the squigglies in the original.
Either way, I hope videos like this this help bring more attention to your scoring abilities. Then you'll be a shoo-in for FIFA 2025.
holy heck this is like the perfect video-shaped CV! I hope it snags you even more contracts!
YESS
I've always wanted to go into composing, and I absolutely LOVE your music. The way you set limits for yourself to achieve something more creative is very different than other composers I've seen (and better, in most cases 😂)
Thats so awesome Emily! You have came such a long way and it is awesome to have been a fan of your content for this long. To watch you and Russ grow, and how much work and collaboration you do.
I find it extremely inspiring. I look forward to your work being published!
