China has also accused the US of interfering in its internal affairs, after one official criticised the Pacific Island nation of Nauru for breaking ties with Taipei in favour of Beijing, just days after the island held its polls.

With China's numerous internal problems and infighting amongst the princelings, Xi Jinping is extremely unpopular among ordinary Chinese people and the PLA. The fact that the Taiwanese people were able to exercise their right to vote freely further undermines Xi Jinping's cult-like leadership. As a result, Xi Jinping is seeking to save his face by coercing countries that support Taiwan's election. Those leaders congratulating the Taiwanese President-elect send a very clear message to the Communist Party of China that there is an alternative that they could acknowledge as a sovereign country, which is Taiwan, that could represent all Chinese on this planet if the Communist Party of China will not abandon its hegemonic agenda.

@@Shenzhou. Wrong. Political surveys are not permitted in mainland China. Ordinary Chinese people will soon learn that if 24 million Taiwanese people can freely elect their leader, why can't they, with almost 1.4 billion, and that would be the end of the Communist Party of China, then a "TRUE UNIFICATION" of all Chinese would soon occur.

@jeromepacheco6005 Well actually the the People's Republic of China states that their territory include all of Mainland China, Inner Mongolia, Hong Kong Macao, Taiwan, Diayu Island and the 10 dashed lines on the South China Sea.
      At the same time
The Republic of China states that their territory includes all of Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Diaoyu Island, the 11 dashed lines on the South China Sea, All of Mongolia, Ladakh, Aksai Chin and so on.
That is why Taiwan cannot have a President because technically Taiwan is not a Country but the Republic of China is.
The One China Policy is agreed upon with all the countries around the world that you have a choice of only recognising either the Republic of China or the People's Republic of China not both.

Good grief! It is China's leaders who should read BOTH history books AND math books! Look, the facts are clear. The ROC in Taiwan was established (on January 12, 1912) long before the PRC was established on October 1, 1949. Hence, the ROC predates the PRC by 37 years! Hence, there is no need for the ROC in Taiwan to declare independence! Btw, what's wrong with the Philippine president congratulating the ROC president-elect? The president of the Philippines is a sovereign head of state and shouldn't be scolded like this! This is insulting! Many democratic countries (i.e., congratulating) have been doing that for years! Besides, Taiwan is the nearest neighbor of the Philippines to the north. Congratulating like this is what democracies do; it's what good neighbors do! Yeah, the PRC should stop making a fuss and brush up on both history AND math!
