Passing your DAS DVSA motorcycle module 1 test & module 2 test can be a challenge, as there's so many road safety and machine control procedures to remember when learning to ride a motorbike. Take your time to practise the new skills you learn whilst on your motorcycle lessons.

One of my pet hates is drivers not indicating correctly as I'm waiting to join a roundabout! But I have learnt that a flashing indicator just means the bulb works 😂

these videos are awesome, i just recently done my CBT, and just like my instructor, you have a very calm way of teaching and bringing fun into the rides, i was unfortunately given the nickname of Casper on my CBT, as i failed to do a shoulder check one time..

Hi Leanna, currently doing my DAS now and got my 3rd lesson tomorrow working on MOD1 exercises. Wish I had you as my instructor as you seem more forgiving haha!

i’ve become a much more observant car driver since learning to ride a bike. refined/relearned my roundabout positioning too. another super useful video. (nice to see the roundabouts in Notts, i haven’t seen some of them in 30 odd years - going to have to get myself up for a nostalgia ride)

Dreadful driving by the (insert preferred expletive) volvo at 4. 55... Yes Leanna I'm sure your horn was to warn your pupil. Having just retired from training, it was things like that, that was starting to wear me down. Please keep up your relaxed controlled (outwardly) approach, it's to be applauded.
Hi Graham, yes it can be a little taxing sometimes. Keeping cool and calm isn't always an easy thing. Saturdays tend to be the worst for bad driving. People hurrying, stressed and generally angry! Not a great combination 😂 Thanks as always 😊
Nice how the student is encouraged to do better rather than put down by pointing out all the mistakes, sign of a good teacher

I listen to your videos when I'm driving the work van dreaming of being out on the bike. Being in the virtual presence of a gifted and passionate instructor who is clearly following their calling in life is almost a meditation in itself. @@motorcyclelessonsuk hey no probs. My driving instructor used to give everyone a minimum of 25 lessons. She said each lesson was a piece of the jigsaw. She was in ultra high demand so defo not a money grab either. You're not a fan of the 3 day Das things then? There's a place doing those at my nearest mainland port
@@mar01006765 hello, we are firm believers that you gain more experience learning to ride over a bit more time, rather than cramming it in over a few days. We don't specify a number of hours, but we do ensure students are consistent in their machine control and procedures on a 125cc before transferring them onto a big bike. For some people this only takes 3 hours. For others it takes 10 hours. So it's very dependent on ability and progression during the lessons. Thanks again 😊

Got my mod1/2 coming up I’m really panicking about roundabouts but you’re videos are really helping me understand a little better I was really dreading the mod1 chicane as you come out the Bend but my instructor had me practicing on some cones and now I’m kind of looking forward to it but I’m sat watching most of your videos as there quite detailed and explained really well thank you for the video brilliant 😁👍

It all seemed so much easier in 1976 🤣 To my knowledge there were no trainers or instructors back then, at least not for me. But even back then even I knew if you did anything without checking your mirrors, and more importantly doing a 'lifesaver' and signalling your intentions eg off a roundabout. You'd failed. I missed a turn on my test, and got 'lost' and still passed 👍 If you were going to pass your test 1976 was the year to do it.....the best summer on record in my lifetime 👍

Hahaha! Yes, but it's actually really helpful to me because I keep saying "you should be going to the left of the pot hole". When they mend it I'll have no point of reference 😂

A lot of these mistakes are just a lack of road knowledge/experience, some are clearly not car drivers (I hope!). Doesn't help that in the UK we seem unable to keep painted lines in towns maintained. Also you seem like a brilliant instructor!
Haha, you might think that, but the majority of our students are experienced car, lorry or bus drivers. Combine learning a new skill (controlling the bike safely) with the old (often 10-30 years of driving without revisiting any training in the car or the highway code) and we have a job to do... But that's the whole point and it's what earns my pennies, so I'm not complaining 😊

@@motorcyclelessonsuk that's sparked a question in my mind Leanna - do you think intensive courses have their place? Some providers do them, but I'm a bit of a believer in the need for knowledge to soak in and for the brain to work on it in the background - I'm not sure intensive courses really allow that. What is your view?

Is it possible that some things we treat as roundabout aren't technically ones, they are rather just a set of (little) one way roads leading us in a circle?
At 8:30 in there is a roundabout similar to the one I ride and I was referring to in my comment on your last video. (Check out A316 near Twickenham stadium, if you like).
Your 2 left lanes are marked as going forward rather than turning off, and your pupils didn't indicate to leave.
Is it not actually part of a roundabout anymore? I am wondering if mine isn't one at this point, even if the satnav talks like it is one, telling me to take the 2nd exit.
Hello 👋, it is definitely a roundabout. On the approach there are 4 lanes, 2 go left, 2 go right. We are taking the right 'exit'. They didn't indicate to exit necessarily because those lanes don't go anywhere but in the direction we are travelling so there is no need to indicate. There is also a turning on the roundabout itself which makes indicating hazardous in case someone thinks we are taking the left turn, and then pulls out on us. I do get your point though. Sometimes it feels like we are just following lanes, not necessarily navigating a roundabout 😂
In fairness to some of these learners the road paint is absolutely awful. As a non-local, last time I rode through Nottingham the RABs and lanes were madly confusing. Can you expand a bit more on the right shoulder check exiting a RAB please?
It's to get the new riders into a *habit* of checking their blind spots (karate kid wax on wax off syndrome) , especially when they have L plates, many aggressive following drivers think the L stands for "Lacking" and often gun it to overtake them. If the student is already in the left lane going straight ahead, when exiting there's no point doing a left lifesaver as no car will be undertaking them due to lack of room and any car giving way at the previous exit has already been assessed. On advanced, as you know, with correct planning this check could mainly be unnecessary.
Hi Mike, thanks for the question. Once you've decided to pass the joining traffic on the left, are aware of the potential danger of them pulling out on you, there is not much point looking back over your shoulder at them as you are passing or have passed them. If it wasn't safe to do so, you would have slowed down, stopped or changed position already. You may even have decided to cover your horn whilst being ready to react.
Looking to the right blindspot helps prevent an, as yet, unseen hazard turning into an unexpected collision as you take the exit (and/or need to merge). There is the bigger danger of someone cutting across the lanes, or into the space you want to use as you exit the roundabout. I've never had anyone come up on my left as I am exiting a roundabout. Funnily enough on my way home today without students I was about to exit the roundabout in lane 1, had to stop due to a pedestrian crossing light on red, holding back the traffic, at a point where anyone in lane 2 could have cut into the exit. A quick lifesaver to the right just after I moved off and before I exited the roundabout gave me peace of mind that I was safe to take the line I wanted to. Hope that helps 😊
As that first exit on the 1st roundabout was straight ahead, does it not require a left indicator on approach?
Hello, with the layout of this particular roundabout it doesn't necessarily require an indicator on the approach as we are in the left lane and there is nowhere else to go but take that exit. There is also no joining traffic to see the indicator on our approach at that time as the next joining entrance is further around the roundabout. Therefore on this particular roundabout we indicate to exit the roundabout but on the approach we can choose whether to indicate or not. I hope that helps 😊
The one roundabout I really dislike is the mini roundabout but excessively raised. There is one at the bottom of our lane, there is barely space around it and the pavement. It is so tight it's a nightmare. I have to go around it at such a slow speed it's barely walking pace else I'll hit the pavement.

Hi Leanne,I failed my mod 2 on the most stupid mistake 20seconds turning into the test centre in burton my front wheel touched the angled solid white line as i was turning right,how i went that close i will never know so game over,so nervous ive got my retest very soon,just wondered if there is anymore tips i should know.bloody dreadin it
Never mind, it happens. Nerves can do the worst of things. Just keep cool and calm, and try again. 😊

At 3:00 why was the learner in lane 1 and the other was in right turn 2nd lane but exit on the 1st exit?
Hi, might be hard to see on the video but it's straight ahead in either lane and it doesn't matter on this roundabout as the bus lane continues on the other side, so the lanes merge anyway. Thanks, Leanna
What motorbike do you ride?
Hi, my personal bike is an NC750X DCT. But I also ride the school bikes which range from CB125Fs, Honda Groms, Yamaha MT07s, CB650Rs and CB500F. So from day to day it varies considerably.

Thankfully not. But I tend to avoid the routes which could lead to the motorway 😂
Too many unnecessary life savers imo when turning left and going straight on. As shown on this video, they serve no purpose whatsoever.
Thanks for your opinion. However, we don't stipulate any lifesavers for turning left. Straight ahead requires an awareness of vehicles that could be in the blindspot prior to exiting the roundabout. I'd assume you're not a qualified instructor nor have you supervised and trained novice students on the road. The purpose of the lifesaver is to ensure safe exit of a roundabout & lifesavers confirm this is the case. Without any consideration of them, riders would be ignorant of the potential danger, let alone the actual danger when there IS a vehicle about to cross lanes on them or use their space as they exit. Thanks again.
If the examiner don't want you passing you ain't passing... I made more mistakes the second time and passed were as the first time I had a different examiner who was a complete idiot
