If this game was only released nowadays. The west would have hope of being on par with the Japanese. With UA-cam and the the sharing mentality in full force.
I don't think that the skill gap between Japan and the world comes from hidden knowledge about combos/setups/tech. 3rd strike tech was properly documented on the internet many years ago (way before I even picked up this game). The real advantage that the japanese have is that they have easy access to CPS3 cabs in good condition and a thriving community. One of my favorite examples of why this matters is this match: ua-cam.com/video/UTT0g4Ca8Vw/v-deo.html While Sugiyama is definetly a league above Frankie, I don't think that this murder came from a simple skill gap (Frankie is quite good after all). This just goes to show Frankie's massive lack of experience in this match-up at a high level.
