I'm highly resistant against most poisonous substances, it's also really hard for me to get drunk and pain killers at the dentists don't actually work on me... I would trade my natural resistance to not feel pain at the dentist in a heartbeat
Look into hypnotic anesthesia
Yes, if you want to trade your natural resistance to poison you're a dumbfuck.
Dominic Smith
lol, it was a joke, on a side note i'm pretty sure i got it by eating some lightly poisonous plants as a kid while playing outside so when it comes to my judgment on poisons i dont think i was ever all that bright
@@what.5693 Think about it, is a natural resistance gonna stop you from dying in the event of some type of poison? In this day and age a natural immunity would probably be more of an inconvenience than anything else. Unless you live outside of a 1st world country it won’t do much to help you. Only thing it’ll do is have you wake up during surgery. That way you can get a good ass mf idea of what they’re doin and freak tf out while they’re doing it. Remember, you might be awake, but you’re high as shit. If your resistance is high enough to retain motor functions you’ll probably freak out of say something. If not, you’re just along for the ride. The most consistent and logical decision making doesn’t occur when you’re high as shit. So your reaction then leads the surgeon getting mad because the patient is awake (yes they get mad because it’s proven many of them have superiority complexes) leading him through his anger to think you do/did hard drugs that increase your tolerance to the drugs they give you. Then blaming you for waking up during surgery like you’re in control of it. Literally, the situation I’m referencing happened to my brother 6 months ago while getting hernia surgery. We use those exact “poisons” that D.A.R.E. warned us about all those years ago everyday in the medical field. A natural resistance should resists uniformly, not for just the bad shit.
@@DndBirb8659 ik the opposite is true like jaundice. Friend of mine had a glass of wine for the first time in his life and had to go to the hospital for alcohol poisoning. He just couldn’t really metabolize it properly.
Holy shit, tattoos with Snake venom? Snake handlers are hardcore.
animal husbandry is surprisingly metal.
poiuytrewq11422 true, who knew
Fantastic vision!
I must do this for added goodness 👌 ❤
Scarification is said to use feces. I wonder if this was like an ancient form of vaccination?
Will it leave marks on the skin like how ink do?
i keep waiting for Kyle to shout "To me Mjolnir!!" or "Odin's Beard!"
+silencia08 He needs to work out more for that xD
i want him to unravel the misteries of his hair
@Some nerd name checks out
Also don't attack Russia in the winter
+James Royce-Dawson Yes, that's the "Why" of not fighting a land war in Asia.
+James Royce-Dawson unless you're The Mongol's
+Field Marshal Fry Yes, because Genghis Khan was badass of badasses.
+James Royce-Dawson Do not attack them period
+James Royce-Dawson though the Mongols attacked form a different direction
I would like him to explain Rasputin, he said you can only build up a resistance to something, but Rasputin definitely pushed that to the point where it seems he was immune to cyanide.
And being shot.
***** He wasn't stabbed, he was poisoned and he was shot. After he was dead he was kicked in the eye and his cheek was shattered when they dumped the body off the bridge. There's a big legend around his death, that's why it seems like his death gets crazier and crazier everytime
***** There was an earlier assassination attempt where he was stabbed in his stomach but it didn't cause his death and he made a full recovery
*****
Who knows what happened that night, the only witnesses were the assassins and after the revolution they told and retold the story to rapt audiences. But it really is a batshit crazy story if it has any truth to it at all.
Apparently, Rasputin survived being poisoned with cyanide-laced cakes and an entire bottle of wine mixed with cyanide. Then he was shot point-blank and fell down 'dead'. Then he was kicked and beaten with an iron bar.
Then after awhile he suddenly got back up, "foaming at the mouth", and attacked the guy who had shot him, ran out the door, and was shot three more times before he fell down 'dead' again. Then he was dumped in the river. When the police pulled the body out the next day he had water in his lungs. So he *drowned*.
Alan Rickman's awesome portrayal of Rasputin in the 1996 tv movie shows the assassination and it is actually hilarious.
+valar The more accurate story and the one I know is, he ate poisoned laced pastries and laced wine, then he was shot twice rendered unconscious, when he work up he realized what was happening so he got up and tried to run but they shot him one more time and he fell in the snow. They walked up to him and put them gun against his forehead and shot for one final shot. That shot killed. After he'd died one of the assassins kicked him in the face leaving an imprint on his eye. When they dumped the body off the he hit a pylon and broke his cheek. He was already dead when they found him.
"don't go fighting a land war in Asia" unless you are, wait for it, The Mongol's *Mongoltage*
DARLING!
before reading your comment, I thought he was talking about america interferring with the land war between china and philippines.
+dennisvergel36 not much of land to dispute
+Field Marshal Fry That was an amazing reference, hats off to you sir
john green is my hero
+suddenly titan yeeeeah, its more of a "sea and a tiny island" war, technically.
There is a man (who is on UA-cam somewhere, I saw him on Outrageous Acts of Science once as well) who over a period of time poisoned himself with black mamba venom. He then let one bite his arm and hang on for a about a minute. He had so much resistance that he didn't even get weak, just put the snake back and went about his day.
You should do the science of Hollywood inaccuracies for jumping off bridges, out of helicopters high up and other high places no injuries or death.
Or the whole car crash = explosion thing
"Don't go fighting a land war in Asia".... unless your father's name is Philip.
If that's the case, ignore the saying and just go nuts.
They'll name cities after you.
+Kancho Or if you're the Mongols. cue Mongoltage
Ben Toth
They are from there. Does not apply.
Who cares about them? YOU will name cities after yourself. And maybe also your horse if you feel like it.
It's worth mentioning at this point that my dad is named Philip and, by this logic, I have your permission to start building my armies.
Kancho or Alexander. you'll be fine till someone poisons you.
I once had a food allergy to peanuts and apricots. When I was 9 years old I thought about how the flu shot worked and decided to take small quantities of roasted nuts and dried apricots. I got really sick the first 20-30 times doing it but in less than a year I started getting less and less sick from them. Now I can eat all the nuts and apricots I want. Sometimes you have to adapt instead of avoid. (When I said small quantities, I meant really small at first. Just the oils for the first few weeks.)
Somewhat related: DC's Poison Ivy -- in many continuities -- has an immunity to plant-based toxins *and* has blood filled with said toxins, to the point where her kiss or touch is almost instantly lethal. Starting with _Batman: The Animated Series_, she conferred that immunity to Harley Quinn. (In B:TAS they were hiding in a toxic waste dump; in the comics it's so Harley doesn't die when they ... "play".)
Is it even remotely possible to have such a broad immunity (or resistance) to poisons, to the point where one is a kind of multispectrum Typhoid Mary? Or to confer said immunity? Remember, it's ALL plant-based toxins, a fairly diverse group, including some kind of fast-acting mold spores as seen in the recent _Cycle of Life and Death_ series and earlier. (Presumably it would also include the emulsin in bitter almonds that creates cyanide.) More recent versions of Ivy make her part plant, so her biology is already comic book rubber science. Let's also not forget her psychic rapport with plants, or her ability to make them move without anything approximating muscle fibers, or her ability to make plant matter grow even without root systems or nutrients much as the Hulk spontaneously gains mass. Or, for that matter, her "pheromone control" that amounts to mind control.
There is a drink in Japan called Habusake. It's basically a whole rattlesnake sitting in alcohol. The poison is leached into the drink. It is very strong and some people have done strange things when they blacked-out after drinking too much..
Of course humans made venom alcohol, at this point I shouldn’t be surprised.
Um...Mithridates was King of Pontus...Which is in modern day Turkey, not Syria. The Seleucids, what little was left of them, ruled Syria at the time.
Thanks
Yep Mithridates was famous for poisoning his enemies and feared being poisoned so much he tried to come up with a specific concoction that would grant him immunity to all known poisons.
"No, His Majesty King Mithridates doesn't have a poison addiction! He can stop whenever he wants." - OSP Blue
everything is poison if you take it to much, right? :)
+Mr93Suki Even water!
not memes
+meme
Dank memes are.
+Mr93Suki not senzu beans
last time I checked yes
antibodies are really finicky when it comes to poisons they work but some of time cause side effects such as allergic reactions and very rarely ever cause yourself to get poisoned from the very antibodies it created. the body usually works for the time it is needed without planing ahead.
Hahaha, "daddy like." Well the idea of building up a poison immunity has put me right in a festive mood, so happy holidays, Mr. Hill, because Christmas!
As a snake nerd I love how you handled this one!
Love the references! It makes the video just THAT better!
Great episode. The timing and sheer amount of great princess bride quotes was...Inconceivable!
We're glad you feel better Kyle!
I learn more from this guy than from school......
igneousmirror2 Same
Said ever commenter on every science video
You're now my favorite channel. Used all my fave quotes
I always wondered about this! Thank you!
What I would have loved to hear about in this video is to what degree (s) have the extreme ends of modern research uncovered that it will or will not have desired effects of being immune enough to be considered immune by what standards.
your Inigo Montoya sounds more like Zoolander.
+noobmaster117 haha nailed it
But why male models?
Nastrael Rowe you serious? I just told you that... A moment ago.
+noobmaster117 Sorry i was perfecting the new look for the new zoolander movie. This new look is named in respect of the old classics magnum and blue steal. i call it Magnum Blue Steel. Here's a sneak peak ;*
+noobmaster117 LOL TOTALLY HEARING IT NOW HAHA
My Grandfather used to take arsenic in the spring every year. He would put a drop on his finger and every few days he would add another drop to a different finger, until he was putting a drop on each finger. He did because he mixed his own pesticide which had arsenic in it, so when the wind would blow some of it on him while spraying it wouldn't bother him.
What about President Snow, in the hunger games books. He poisoned his meals and then afterward gave himself the antidote after. What would be the effects of this on and in your body?
You are awesome. Merry Christmas
Is the Secret Santa guy also the Notice Me Senpai guy?
Yep
The Princess Bride is such a classic, watched it on a movie channel last night even though I own it on bluray lol
Yes, brush that Thor hair.
I always thought that line about him "building an immunity" was just another way of saying "I didn't die because plotline". I did not expect it to actually be somewhat possible. The more you know.
The Princess Bride was the first thing that came into my mind when I saw the title, nerdgasm!
I love the little bounce at 0:19.
This has become my favorite video just for the massive references to The Princess Bride, my favorite movie.
I think this may only work if the poison is something where the smallest dose does not kill or damage you significantly OR is something your body can identify quickly enough (or even at all). There is a podcast called Poisoncast, they go into detail about a number of poisons. My candidate is ricin, not because of Breaking Bad as I have never watched it, but it is just so interesting to me, its mechanism of action.
Inconceivable!
Steverino Those Princess Bride references though
Steverino I'm not sure you understand the meaning of that word
A Simple Farmer i dont think that word means what you think it means***
Now I want a beer... awesome stuff as always, Kyle Hill
INCONCEIVABLE...............
diggin your shows kyle. keep up the good work
is this concept similar to the flu shot? in which the the flu shot has some of the the flu virus in it to build tolerance. happy holidays!
+roninglx Similar idea, different underlying biological mechanisms.
+Tom Leonard oh, thanks
+roninglx It's similar in a very superficial way. Talking about having a tolerance gives the idea that a bigger amount is needed to affect you in the same way. Vaccines work by showing your immune system how to identify a virus and allowing it to essentially make blueprints for cells that can destroy that virus. When you get infected, your immune system can use the blueprints to build attack cells that can destroy the virus right away. Instead of making it so your body can take more virus before getting sick, you gain a true immunity, so it shouldn't affect you at all. The problem with a vaccine is that there isn't just one virus that causes the flu. You can be immune to specific viruses that give you flu symptoms, but not "the flu." When a virus mutates, it may change enough so that your immune system doesn't recognize it, anymore. The chicken pox virus doesn't mutate as easily. That's why people need to get a flu vaccine every year to stay immune to the flu, but very few people ever get a second case of chicken pox.
+roninglx flushots should only be for people that have not very good immune systems.
Except for being a government guinea pig for testing.
There's also a group of mystic healers somewhere in Africa or India or someplace that can eat pure mercury and not be poisoned. Eating mercury is like the final test for them, and they say it's sweet.
Pure mercury is actually not as toxic as you think when it comes to ingestion (still, don't do it). It is the molecules that mercury makes with other atoms that makes it toxic.
It's interesting going through these videos and seeing his different hair length
LOVED the Princess Bride theme!
You should do a video about how Poison Ivy can control plants and produce plant venom. She also has an immunity to toxins, as seen in Batman: The Animated Series. Also, can someone really have clorophyll for blood? Might be pretty interesting to talk about.
Kyle's hair is BOSS.
Just saw this scene again last night! Come tihs morning, this video! Ha! great timing! :)
This was the best movie ever btw
I was hoping for a " SUPRISE COBRA" but this was a good video none the less.
I'm immune to being a loser
Does that mean you used to be a loser and started being one until you no longer were one?
+Besnik Nuro no I exposed my eyes to keemstar a little everyday. That's also the story of how I avoided cancer
Well how did I not think of that.
That way you can expose yourself to losers but not be one.
You may be joking but that actually makes sense. When you hang around someone you don't like for awhile over time you build a tolerance towards them. Sadly that would make you tolerant to losers not immune to being one.
Snake venom isn’t a poison. It’s a venom. Duh.
Venom = Injected
Poison = Ingested
Toxin = Inhaled
Venom:atack
Poison:defense
Toxin:accident
Practically
Venom is when you get bitten and the venom gets into your veins
Poison is when you drink it/eat it
Toxin is when you breath it.
@Luuk hotel travigo
"Because their already poisoned. Ye?- Yeahhhh"
I totally want to try the snake venom thing
1:56 Snake venom isn't a poison, it's a venom. The difference is that poison is toxic if ingested, while venom needs to be injected to be toxic.
RangerLab he didn't say it was poison tho? He even said that you can drink that venom. Poison cannot be ingested so Kyle knows the difference
Do a video about One Punch Man's power! :D
Jonatham Vicens he did, he calculated his max strenght
Thank you for doing s video on my favorite movie of all time ^^
This was inconceivable
It's absolutely possible. Just be a Steel-type. Checkmate.
+TheMadSlick But not when they are Soaked, ha!
+GuyWithAnAmazingHat Or somehow manage to get Skill Swapped with a Colour Change. :)
What about ablility corrosion
Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. you killed my father. prepare to die. wait was that the demoman's beer?
Just watched this movie the other day. Such a classic!
Theoretically, how would the floating/hovering/flying Droids in the Star Wars universe work? How would the fly? Droids like the IT-O Interrogator, DRK-1 Dark Eye Probe , Prowler 1000, Viper Probe, Marksman-H Combat Remote, G0-T0 and so on.
I thought that this would be a neat skill but then I realised that it is batshit crazy
You said, "Anybody want a peanut." You are my favorite now!
Loving Kyles chrome comb.
I love this series
"i don't think it means what you think it means" very subtle
He should have mentioned Rasputin, who ate a ton of stuff that had cyanide in them and wasn’t affected. He died a bit later to gunshots and hypothermia.
Mithradatius story sounds like a lot of that of king Bindusara Indian king whose teacher poisoned him bit by bit till he became resistant to Poisons.
I love the princess bride. Thanks.
this guy had someone write in princess bride material. No way he knew it by heart.
Is that the guy from those crazy tv news interviews? Looool
There are people on medications whose doses rise dramatically to a point where if a person is not likewise attuned would die attempting the same level of medication. So tolerance, or lack of, would simulate immunity or susceptibility in this case.
I just rewatched Ninja Scroll like 2 days ago too, how timely.
BEST EPISODE EVER!
Why is it when Transformers convert from robot mode to alternate mode, their alternate modes are clean or in other words in complete sheets of metal unlike the toys which show the parts that need to Transform. Basically, how do the Transforming parts recombine with each other every time and there are no spaces present between them when in vehicle mode (like the toys)
As soon as i saw the title about poison immunity i knew immediately there would be Princess Bride references
the ending killed me xD
"Because, science", what a great verb.
Dude, I love science
That is awesome!!
I'm an example, I was born and created aside of a petrochemical pole, and one day we had to paint the house with diluted ink for wood, in a few hours with mask my mom started to feel bad for ink intoxication but she is ok, but it took me 3 das without mask to start feeling something, and not as bad as my mom
Inconceivable!!
Love the movie Princess Bride and that's a pretty decent so you just had Kyle
Can you please make a video about the scene in "THank you for Smoking" where the doctor tells the main character he can never smoke again because of a nicotine overdosage? I would love to know the science behind that. Although it's mostly biology, and I've seen you do more physics stuff, this episode seems to show that you are doing biology aswell...!
okay, so I know I'm super late with my comments, but I was just thinking about how zero point energy works. Could you explain this concept, and possibly work in how it could effect the abilities of thor's hammer and/or the abilities of the juggernaut?
I was combing my hair when that secret santa scene happened.
The fact that the poison was used in Italy even fits in the movie's canon because Sicily in in Italy
The count of Monte Cristo does the same thing. He took increasing dose of poison to build a tolerance
Dumas forever:D
Heard about a guy who had more than one liver(can't remember how many) which made it hard if not possible to get drunk.
I'm probably gonna try to build up an immunity to poison too eventually
Riddick used this trick in the latest of his adventures to escape from a mud-crawling beast thing. I think.
My left ear loved this video
How do you write on something and also have al this effects and still be visible behind the glass??? How do you do that
All the Princess Bride puns!
Say "As you wish" with that eyebrow wiggle again...
+Nerdist To Kyle Hill; Can you do a video this upcoming Thursday telling how The Flash and his family, (for example Impulse) can vibrate through things, like walls, THANKS!
Okay, what is the upper limit of arsenic resistance one can reach given infinitely long time? 2g? 5kg? Specifics pls
so if it impairs the bowels ability to absorb more poison is that good or bad? how does that affect it ability to absorb other things like nutriants
inconceivable!
Was that the "i dont know guy" at the end?
Can you do a how Kyle Hill writes video?
id love have him as teacher when i was in school
