SANGHEILI: Cultural Index
Вставка

- The elites are the greatest soldiers of the Covenant army, or perhaps they were. How much of the Prophet's Great Journey has influenced their culture and what remains of their own heritage? The energy swords?
Those are cool.
The Arbiter too. He's fun.
Their home world is akin to ours and much of their ancient history resembles feudal Japan.
This is the Cultural Index a series aimed at exploring various Science-Fiction species.
For outsiders to a series to get to know the basics and maybe even hardened Sci-fi nuts might discover something new.
Thanks for watching!

@Certifiably Ingame PLEASE Make videos about Zeltrons?!
The perfect item from human culture to give to a Sangheili as a gift: A copy of Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" translated to Sangheili.
That’d be an amazing little Easter egg to add in the dialogue of a comic book or the game.
Many Elite scholars would be very fascinated with ancient Asian cultures given how it very similar to their own.
@@tristanbackup2536 as well as Roman
@@garrettlich7140 Rome's martial culture was obsessed with farming. Like, to the point that philosophers had to write proofs on why farming is absolutely not the same thing as fighting. When you know that's what they're talking about, a lot of the separate things they say click together into a cohesive whole, like how you can only trust a rich man to command an army, because rich men in Rome became rich by farming large estates. I don't think the Sangheili would find a lot to relate to with them in particular.
I'd love to see the arbiter quote the book
Showed this to my Sangheili friend. He proceeded to kick me in the sternum.
That’s how they show affection I hear
I hear sangheili females are mainly dom
I always liked the Elites because their culture is not that different from the Klingons.
JohnBachoferIV Klingon? NERD
Jiralhanae are more like klingons.
Sangheli are more like yautja. Honorable skillful warriors not brutish (still honorable) like the klingons and brutes (brutes are less honorable than klingons though).
I’ve always like the sangheli because I can speak their language
Freeman
@@EmoBoiLink then try
I love how the higher the rank, the more elites look like the Alien queen
Im shocked you didnt talk about the Duel. Its cannon (it was in a H2a terminal)
How about the other Covenant races (Unggoy/Grunts, Huragok/Engineers, Mgalekgolo/Hunters, Yanme'e/Drones, or the Kig-Yar/Jackals)?
@Alex Luca They already did the Prophets...and I wanna say they did the Brutes as well, but I could be wrong.
The Borg and the Flood are almost exactly the same. One uses biological means to assimilate other organisms while the other uses technological means. Both seek perfection and are nearly unstoppable juggernauts in their respective universes.
What would happen if one tried to overtake the other?
(Ok, this is a VERY late reply)
Hehe, "Juggernauts". They ARE canon.
Oh man Now I know what the weapon "Light of Urs" is referencing =)
Awesome videos man!
DO A VIDEO on the FLOOD! i've always wondered about the flood and their true purpose in the lore.
ANPE Science basically a powerful race that made the forerunners and a advance humans and then forerunners got butthurt when they like humans better by giving them a mantel so they turn and hunt them down and they turn to dust ( percursers) and that dust was corrupt and went into a blind revenge to untie all race by making it all flood or make all races untie to pass it down again.
@@MajinMist603 please type all that again correctly, with periods and in a way that makes sense, rather than just sounding like someone who blurted all in one go, without a pause for breath.
@@Hirotoro4692 tldr the precursors create super advanced ancient humans and forerunners. The precursors pick ancient humanity over forerunners. Forerunners are pretentious douch bags so they kill all the precursors. Some precursors survive and become space powder to regenerate over time ( yea this part confused tf outta me too but idk they’re god like so go w/ it lol). Something goes wrong and the precursor powder becomes corrupt and becomes the flood bent on “reunifying” all the races in the galaxy. Even every gravemind created is ultimately a manifestation of the primordial ( the main precursor or something).
@@Hirotoro4692 the power of reading doing yourself while reading.
Do the flood. You guys do PLENTY of Star Trek as it is.
I want both videos!
These beings are exactly the height and weight i was expecting. Love em' or hate em'.
I hope one day you cover the Zerg from star craft. And their four strages of development from primal, to over mind, to brood war/ queen of blades , after the death of the fallen zelnarg Amon and the disappearance of Kerrigan.
And speculat on eace
I vote for assimilated Flood
Good idea
Thanks for making this. I realized that I actually didn't know much about the culture of the elites and only knew them as awsome looking and honorable warriors. Now I understand another aspect of my favorite species in the halo universe.
*WORT WORT WORT*
The Borg!!!
I find it funny that they just basically decided they could surrender “honourably” after being almost exterminated, reminds me of klingons deciding they won despite an obvious loss to avoid public outcry and execution for failure
protoss zealots vs the sanghelli elites
You got a sub anyways great video
the flood
You could say they’re a bit elitist. 🎶Rimshot🎶 Thank you I’ll be here all night.
Not even a contest, the flood
Great Vid! You really did get like everything right
You , earned a sub.
I would love to see both species covered! This is too difficult a choice!
All that I ask of Halo is a Sangheili centric game.
Particularly as the Arbiter post halo 5.
That would be the best.
Zealot is more of term/designation for higher command in the covenant covering shipmaster for larger vessels, generals, supreme commanders (fleet commanders), zealot (the position for the acquisition and protection of forunner artifacts), field marshal (a ground commander who answers to a supreme commander, being incharge of an entire planetary operation, but can run their own spec ops missions with zealots under their command as we see in halo reach) but these postions are tiered (lowest to highest) in command structure being
General / ship master
Zealot
Field marshal
Supreme commander
And so on
Outstanding video
Yay!
Great video! And I vote Borg.
You will review the Borg next! Resistance is futile!
"Give us our fancy hats"
I got to get back into the Halo series. I played the one after Halo 3 and didn't really like it but it seems the lore of the series really advanced.
Would you consider making a video about Star Control races, old and new?
The Flood will devour all do lets learn about them while we can.
i know Sangheili! WORT WORT WORT!!!
Blarg?
the elites also designed all the ships and weapons
how about something from stargate? Like the Ori
Borg
(could we also get some 40k stuff too?)
Looking at this from a cultural anthropological perspective is really interesting. I do archaeology for a living, and anthropology is something that is heavily involved in archaeology.
I appreciate videos like this one. Heavily considering subscribing to your channel.
The Flood would kick the borgs ass. There is no decision.
Before the Forerunner trilogy, I would’ve disagreed.
Trinary star systems are notable? I’ve seen so many it didn’t even occur to me honestly
Not even a contest Borg
Borg.
You're in for a wild ride though, since the Borg have fragmented memories of their most ancient times and it's hard to tell what happened when in their history. I will caution you that the current Borg are not the same Borg from the past, they have went through multiple iterations throughout history depending on what was required to survive or achieve a goal, for example, they occasionally used a Queen to "bring back to the fold" any Borg who disconnected, which is their purpose.
They also have a history with the V'gir entity, though it remains uncertain what this is, some say V'gir created the Borg as an extension of itself which then later went Rogue and evolved, some say the Borg just admire and respect it in the same way they do the Omega particle, but in Star Trek Online and perhaps other expanded universe material(not sure) they created their Unimatrix Command ships to resemble V'gir, said ships being used to strengthen the connection to the collective over vast distances. Another interesting historical interaction with the Borg is that of the Preservers, who created the things known to us as the Doomsday Weapons in order to stop the rapidly expanding Borg from assimilating their "children" races. Obviously at some point these ancient automated weapons broke and went nuts, though for all we know the planet Kirk saw one cleansing may have somehow had Borg on it.
They seem nice 😊
I speak Sangheili. Ahem: Wort,Wort,Wort.
I love the Elites
Wort! Wort! Wort!
Lmao! The ending
Time for everyone's favorite squid faces
I vote for the Borg!
I vote for the borg
I imagine them having the temperament of a king cobra.
The elites called themselves zealots when they obtained the rank not the humans
They offer unggoy legs for food. Wobbb wob
well both would be cool at some point but there's nothing on The flood but there's loads about the borg on UA-cam
The Borg, please.
The borg!
I have one question!
How the hell do they eat?
Like there's just a big old gap at the bottom of their jaw and for that matter how does their mouth not get dried out? Is it just really messy when they eat, so they have to eat head over a plate not to spill their food everywhere when it falls out of their face? Seems highly inefficient evolutionarily speaking.
Maybe they swallow like birds and reptiles but then again there was mentioning of like dipping sauce in some lore that they eat and that doesn't seem like something that could be enjoyed by species who just swallow food whole. And I'm still wondering about their mouths drying out unless they just close up their throats and breathe out of another orifice and their mouths can just be dry.
I seriously need to know and am tempted to try and find it out myself
as a native american who grew up on a reservation looking at the sangheili makes me feel things lmao
The nerd in me hears 3 suns and immediately goes "that'd never happen, one would get flung into space.
Kig-yar?
Tough choice , but the flood.

Bow to your sensai
Their culture sounds eerily similar to the Klingons, until the covenant changed things
The Flood just because I'm sick to death of the Borg heard WAY too much about them. Be nice to have something different.
Why couldn't they have used the halo 2 elites in multilayer for anniversary
The flood.

I thought sangheili women did enter military service though it was extremely rare. Also Flood FTW
Jormungand13324 i don’t believe they do. But if they did it was like you said extremely rare, so not really worth talking about.
i think it was in Halo: Shadow of Intent that pointed it out with a clear bias against it.
Jormungand13324 all sangheili are trained for combat, only males were actually allowed to enter military service until very recently due to the lack of manpower caused by rampant civil war on Sangheilios.
thanks for the insight. by the way, how long do you think the sangheili lifespan is compared to a human's? In the same book it was remarked that one of the dead guards was in "his ninth decade" and he was considered to be pretty old. And it's remarked in another book that older warriors are relegated to guard duty to remain useful in their waning years, i think it's one of the books in the kilo 5 trilogy.
Jormungand13324 I'm not too sure about their lifespan compared to humans, it's probably somewhat similar based on what we've seen, Thel 'Vadam is around 72 and he's still going strong.
Infamous Energy sword what do you mean bro more like the famous energy sword
The flood
Speaking for the Borg, I find it funny that their ideals are more akin towards communism and the like. Where individuals are mere pawns.
Borg 100%
You don't pronounce the g in sangheili.
Yes, you do.
Zentradi/Mentradi from SDF Macross after the next one.
Has there ever been a Sangheili who rejected their family name?
A Sangheili is more likely to have their family/clan reject them (for one reason or another), than that Sangheili reject their family/clan.
Borg. Macross, Babylon 5
Borg - resistance is futile
90% will say Resistance is futile.
Borg
Vote Borg
The Sangheili culture done here is vastly out of date, even given this time period. They're strongly based from the Norse and medieval Europe, as said by Tobias Buckell, 343i, and Bungie employees. My discord is on my profile if you want primary sources to fix this video, or if anyone else wants them.
its not sangeli its sangheili
