Nice to hear a good balanced review from a user rather than BS from a reviewer/shill. I have been looking to upgrade and these lenses are on the top of my list.
I am cracking up because as I was watching the sequence with the cowboy getting the whiskey I was trying to figure out why that house looks so familiar to me... I just realized that it is because I literally shot a commercial in that same airbnb like 3 weeks ago 😂
An f stop is a theoretical value of light coming through the lens by dividing the front diamater of the lens to the diamater of the open aperture. Thus most lenses have a faster fstop, as it is not calculating any deviation of the light lost through the glass. so its no more or less shallow that any other f2 lens. A T stop as you rightly said is a transmission value that has been correctly measured so a T2.4 lens and a lens set to T2.4 should always match exposure though I have notice with todays modern and affordable lenses to not be true. also not everyone will round up their T stops and may say its a T2.3 instead of a T2.4. to help it sell but in actual fact its a T2.28lens.
Great review and great lenses. Your footage looked beautiful. I personally do prefer the Dulens over the NiSi. Really dig the rainbow flares, they give me "Die Hard" 80's vibes. But yeah I agree my only issue as well is the close focus. It's no biggie but a few inches closer is always better. Looking forward to the 21mm as well. Cheers Spencer!
I have a dumb question. If you put a speedbooster on a lens, doesn't that change the focal length? say you have that 43mm lens and then you stick a 0.71x speedbooster on it... now it becomes (aproximately) a 30mm lens and now has the characteristics of a 30mm lens yes?
Complicated subject but technically the focal length never changes. But the field of view will be wider yes. For the sake of this video just assume I’m filming on a full frame sensor.
@@spensersakurai but your adding glass to your original taking lens (43mm) in order to achieve that wider FOV right? Doesn’t that glass from the speed booster count as a modifier to your lens?
@@BillMcdad different lenses for different things but I like the Thypoch. They are just way softer compared to the Dulens. Their close focus is better and they are faster. Still like the Dulens a lot though.
Hey Spenser, you mentioned that you used Red Dragon S35. I was wondering how does it compare to Red Komodo and Komodo X? for some reason, a lot of people say it has better dynamic range or more organic image but I don't understand how it can be true if both cameras shoot log and then you choose your pipeline work in post.
The newer sensors are just so clean and accurate. They have less inherent“look” Eventually cameras are going to be like film stocks. Dragon is inherently green and low saturated. But of course you can correct it out. But it doesn’t come out of the box clean like modern cameras
Would you have any interest in coming to tulsa to see a few of my short films debut at a classic local theater called circle cinema? I'm a big fan, and I watch all your videos. You have definitely had a big influence on me, and still do. I know it's like a 2 hour drive, and you don't even know me... but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask 😅.
bro thinks he's in THE RING
Hahaha! Spot on!
😂
Glad they’re finally getting some respect. Used my set on a short film last year and people were blown away by their look 😂

The 18-35 betrayed after you gave it so much praise. Started focus hunting lol. Great video
Yeah I love my Dulens. The look is wonderful.
Quick side note : more shallow = shallower = less DoF. Why not just use a simple word…
Thanks Spencer, really like the look of these. That minimum focus distance does deter me though. I've been spoiled by Vespids focusing close 😉

These lenses are great!!! I’m apart of their facebook page and it’s amazing

I've been following these since before their first pre-order sign ups. Love these little things and would love to own some one day!

@user-zv7lm8uk7h ok got it 👍thanks for that!
I prefer the NISI Athena 40mm
Love your channel man. Question - Now that you shot with the THYPOCH Simera , do you prefer them to the Dulens? Thanks!

@ thank you so much for the quick response buddy. Keep up the great work.
Thanks for the review, Spenser. Are you still using the Meike lenses?
sold them awhile ago.

Do you prefer them over the Meike FF lenses? I been thinking about buying a set but can't decide which one.
character vs no character. thats more of the question. I prefer them over the meike but that close focus is a bummer. Meike didnt have that problem.
Thanks! Love the look
What speed booster were you using?
What do you think of the Blazar Anamorphics?
havent used them to know for sure.
@@spensersakurai another question for ya, kinda weird, but if I’m bad at math, will I never excel as a DP?
Great video 🙏
How did you grade your talking head portions? Really love the look.
Going to have a whole video on this soon
Would give you 100 likes if I could ❤
It’s really kinda stylized with how much teal is in there. I think it would work really well for horror. Looking forward to the breakdown!
love mine hehe
Uff that flare is rough, and it doesn't look as premium as let's say an Arri DNA Prime, it looks like an error
