this definitely one of the best model rail uk channels and great to get an insight into the different models and how easy, or not, they are to keep running. these are not great times for listening to the news, model railways is a welcome distraction. that is a lovely Xmas present you have there.
I can’t remember the last time there was a good time to listen to the news. I stopped altogether years ago. Life is brief enough with the minimum of chronic depression.
You shouldn't be thanking us, we should be thanking you, and not just once a year. Your repair videos have helped me so many times with my old eBay purchases. Happy New Year when it comes and thank you so much.
Dear Sir, Thanks for the Portuguese translation, but i rather like your Scottish accent! Beautiful (and colourful) locomotive! Have a great 2025! Cheers from Brazil!
Hi Bill. Thankyou for a great 2024. You are an inspiration to us mere mortals when it comes to model railway maintenance. Watching you makes me want to tackle my fleet. The only problem I have is that I have just over 200 loco's. And that doesn't include the rolling stock ! So I will have my work cut out for me. The first thing that I want to do is replace all of the Ringfeild motors in my Lima and Vi-trains loco's , thats over 60. I am trying to do it on the cheap by keeping my eye out for old cd/dvd players. I have 7 so far , small steps. Then I model DCC , now here I have a head start , I have already done over 40. But I am not currently working so I can only go by my own ingenuity and charm but I have that in abundance , so onwards and upwards. Watching you means that I have to set up a maintenance regime so the first ine's to visit my shed will be my 4 Lima class 50's and my Bachmann V1/V3 in LNER green. So thankyou for a very entertaining 2024 and I look forward to 2025 in your company. So I will see you in the gnome's legs for a pint and a happy Hogmanney to you. Best wishes and kindest regards from a good Cockney.
Hi Bill happy new year, I'm new to the hobby, and have been watching for about a year whilst I learn and decide what layout I want. What I enjoy the most is how simple you explain things for us newbies and you're not part of the group that are promoting each other or giving reviews on new models. I look forward to the building and fixing in the future.
Thank you to you too Bill. I know I probably bore you to death but I still say your the Model Railway version of Springburn Works, if there's any major catastrophes, it's great to watch you overcome and repair them. All the best to you and your family for 2025, have a great hogmanay.🥃🥂🍺
Bill it’s been a very good year, always await each of your videos. This one is always one of the best; the truth behind the camera - out takes when things just don’t go to plan- if there was ever a plan lol. It’s the ones with the door bell; phone or the family member that has to be heard; bark bark and bark. Thankyou for a great year and all the very best for this new one which is almost upon us. Marc from Leighton Buzzard
THank you, Doctor, and a Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year to you too, Sir. I've been a fan of yours since that very first episode was aired for the very first time...
Hi Bill and a very happy new year all the way from sunny Thailand. I am a relative new boy to the hobby but have been bitten badly by the bug. Still working on my layout but full of hope! Will try and get in touch with you later for some advice on a particular sticky problem I seem to have for which I do not seem to be able to find the solution. Until then Cheers!
@@DelicateSoundofTim Hi, happy new year to yourself. I'm interested to know what the situations like in Thailand for purchasing model trains plus, spares? I would imagine the heat/humidity can cause many issues😭. As I've said, have a good 2025. All the best Pete Y
Thanks for your great videos.. I have followed the channel for many years and learned a lot from watching them... Thanks and I hope your 2025 is a great one for you, Keep up the fantastic work and videos....That new model looks weird just a carriage running on it's own, but the livery does look great.... I have always noticed the subtle changes in the boxes on the chair on the back wall of your repair room holding up the OOBill sign each repair video... Cheers from Melbourne Australia.... Tim.
Those out takes were special Bill!! Human after all. Keep up the good work and entertainment. Looking forward to 2025'svideos already. All the best...Steve
Bill, no, Thank you for your time, effort and fantastic channel. Happy New Year to you and your family, I hope you enjoy New Years eve at the "Gnomes Legs." All the best, Pete Y
Thanks for a great year of videos full of tips, techniques, skill and humour! Many thanks Bill and look forward to more in 2025. Happy new year when it comes😀
Hello Bill, have a good Silvester Celebration and I hope to see more of Your fantastic videos in 2025! They are so inspiring and help a lot of people to repair their own stuff! Greetings from Germany, Stefan
Hi bill a big thank you for all your hard work in making these video’s of repairs and your lay out. I have enjoyed every video that you have done, you have also repaired a couple of my loco’s for me. Looking forward to 2025 and starting with god knows, it’s always a surprise. Happy new year .
Thank you for another year of informative and entertaining videos . See you in the new year for more of your great work and inspiration. HAPPY NEY YEAR 🎉🎉🎉🎉
The 153s normally work with class 156s on the West Highland line. They were converted from standard 153s to add extra room for luggage, bikes and skis. Best wishes for 2025.
As you say, sending locos for repair from Australia will probably never happen. I do consider your repair videos as my technical support. All the best for 2025.
All the best Bill for the coming new year, always great to view your videos and understand how to go about things when model loco's go wrong, great to see the bloopers at the end.
Hi Bill, I also got one of these 153s earlier in the year, also a present from my wife. A bit of research showed that they seem to be permanently coupled to class 156 DMUs. A few weeks later, I was able to get a Hornby 156 in Scotrail saltire livery from eBay. With some additional snow ploughs fitted, it makes a pretty good representation, I think.
Yes I didn't realise they were coupled to 156s. You were lucky to get hold of a saltire one. I'll keep a look out for one but I expect they go for a lot of dosh and are hard to come by.
I was lucky, the reference number is R2950 if you’re searching for one. I paid £125 for mine and in fairness it looked as if it had never been used so I was reasonably happy. Mind you, by the time I put a decoder in it, added lighting and a decoder for the 153, my “gift” cost me £200! And that was without the cost of the 153. Still, it looks good .
Thank you for your knowledge and shearing. Wonderful useful information. Have a wonderful new year.

Cheers Bill, been enjoying the channel this year. I only got back into OO in July, after decades away - dunno what happened. Always missed it, lived in some tiny places from the late 1980s, so lost touch with model railways - but back now. I got the 153 from Rails of Sheffield - it is nice. I just fitted DCC to it.
Thanks again to you Bill for doing these videos and repairing so many locos for folks. Hope you and your family have a great new year and a fantastic 2025.
Huge thanks Bill for all your inspiring and informative videos. I am looking forward to getting my layout built this year and using the skills you’ve shown to get my locos from my childhood and dodgy eBay purchases finally up and running.
That's a great 153. I love the paint job. Have a very Happy New Year. I can not do first footing, I live a bit far away (Kent). I hope you have a good year and have lots of fun with your layout in 2025.
Hi again, Bill. Thanks ever so much for sharing your expertise, joy of the hobby, and for fixing several of my locos this year. Glad to see you've got your hands on a ScotRail DMU. Even though I'm an ex-Pat Welshman living in East Anglia and the closest I get to running Scottish trains are A4s, A3s, Deltics etc hauling expresses, I was tempted to buy one, as I think the livery is great. I wish you & Mrs Bill A Happy New Year. Loving the "Layout People" cameos in the end credits, BTW.
ALways watch your videos they are a great inspiration and informative and the best unboxing I have ever seen. You mentioned once about doing a video on wiring the dummy bogie of a disiel locomotive with extra pick ups., that would be great. May you have a blessed new year
Have a great New Years celebration and all the best for 2025 Bill. Tri-ang had factories in many places around the world, including Australia, New Zealand and Canada, which may suggest the reason for the international following. Greetings from a land down under. 👍😀 See you next year.

That was a great ending to a wonderful year. I'm glad your wife lets you have the credit card and get what you want for Christmas I wish mien did. I like the look of the class 153 because the real one had a rap just like that. The motor almost looks like the old pancake type so I don't think it will run better than it does but if it can only you can do it. Love seeing that your human because we only get to see the polished release you show us and I'm sure some people think that you spend an hour and another video pops out. Your site is one of 5 at the top of my list of 60 sites I monitor so thank you for the hours of enjoyment you gave me and see you in 2025. Jersey Bill in the States
Happy New Year Bill . Great channel . I fancy the 153 myself , but trouble is they only run with Scotrail 156s and I don’t have one . They don’t run with coaches so Scotrail 2fs won’t do it I’m afraid .Nice model though . Heljan are supposed to be bringing a 153 out . Don’t think Scotrail is currently listed and knowing Heljan it will probably cost a fortune !
It's the Ringfield replacement that curses a few hang overs from the past. I *would not work on that for any reason* they break as soon as look at them and you will struggle to fix it. Nasty clips that explode in every direction. If you want it to run really well, I'd put a Lima bogie in it. I did that with a Railroad Deltic that had that poultice in it. It ran - better.

hi bill wishing you and your family a happy new year.
A Lima bogie with a CD motor isn't a bad idea.
Enjoyed those out takes. Had a good laugh.

You have a great channel, and your advice has been really helpful. I really enjoy you running the repaired locomotives through the Scottish countryside on your layout, Will you be obtaining a Highland Jones Goods? Happy New Year 🙂
Too expensive. And they are sold out.
I wonder if adding some weight to the 153 would improve the slow running
It would probably make it worse I think. An increase in downward force will increase the resistance on the axles. The problem will most likely be the gears.
The 153 run with 156 to oban and Fort William. Very much like the oops
