What I did with my old SX40 HS was hack into it, remove the two mono small mics, and solder a 3mm jack by adding a small hole in the camera's body to put the 3mm jack through. I then tested it. With a wireless mic from 10 meters to 20 meters, it works like a charm. However, when you do that there are a few things to remember. 1) You need truckloads of patience because it's finicky so be very patient, if it will take you 2 to three days to finish the job so be it, take good care of not destroying your camera. 2) When you add a 3mm jack, you will only be able to record with an external mic, because what you do is essentially transform the internal mics into an external mic.
I have the same camera and I was facing the same problem as you. Thank you for doing this test. Now I know that this camera doesn't match with microphones.
Thank you for your comment Jennifer. It is frustrating that this camera cannot connect to an external mike; other than that it is a great camera. Well, I ended up purchasing a nice Sony Handycam for my videos, and it was been working great. Cheers!
Yess you can conec microphone to this cámara you only need an second adapter ,so Will be 2 adapter AND the micro . I have this cámara and i buyed 2 adapters en Amazon And its works Very well
I too have the same canon . I bought it primarily to take shots of the craters on the moon. But would now like to use it for ytube recrodings to which I say thanks you saved me both effort and $$. Im not too happy with the pictures quality of this camera. My iPhone takes better pics actually, but again its unmatched for a $300 camera that takes craters on the moon.
I think you missed the proper test. In both instances, you were speaking into the internal mic from a few inches away. Of course it sounds the same. You should test both mics standing a few feet from the mic while you're facing the camera.
Try testing it but start with the external microphone. In the past I've used cameras that can't switch audio sources during the same video. So take 1 video with it and one without it and test the difference.
I've watched a video about this and, if I'm not wrong, you have to choose at the menu from what you want to record audio. Sync seems ok, but when you do too much cuts it starts to be annoying. thanks for the video anyway and good luck.
Hello, have you tried to connect, via the usb of your camera, an audio interface such as Tascam or Zoom. Be careful ! Not all tascam and zoom have audio interface. So for example you can connect Tascam dr40x on Iphone or android via usb. But the question is : does the camera accept it as external audio through usb ?? Thanks in advance
I could not connect to any external microphone, and in its manual it is indicated as well. So I do not think there is any external audio via USB either.
@@PropsWheels It´s because I watched your video that i saw and heard you claim that the built-in mic is on the side of the camera when it´s in fact on top.
@@PropsWheels You're very welcome! I wish you another happy day and a pleasant weekend to you and everyone in strength, health and peace! Good luck! 👍🍀🇭🇺🌞☝️
You need to disable built in microphone before you can test external microphone because only one microphone can work at a time. I am pretty sure it will work, if you follow what I said.
@@heehawworld2518 but thats what he did then.. he just connected external so internal should disable like you're saying. So theres no such thing as disabling the internal one so exactly what did you want him to do then
Hi Manuel. I do not think this camera can be connected to a computer or phone to be used as a webcam, but I may be wrong. I will look into it to figure out the answer. Take care.
Sorry to hear that. :( I learned the hard way as well. After that, I ended up purchasing a good video recorder for my videos. Foe pictures, this camera is still great.

Nice video❤
Awesome video. What is the right cable to connect to my laptop and have a liveview of what my camera sees?

The top hole is indeed for a remote clicker :)
Yeah, every time I plugged in a mic, it was taking a picture. :)
I can buy USB adapter alone?
Yes, you can, but it won't allow you to connect a microphone to this camera.
you should read the manual first. the mic is on top below the flash (2 holes). On the side is a speaker
Did you bother watching the video? It is not about the built-in microphone...
