I use decorative stitching across the flange to hold it down... this helps keep the case looking nice after washing! And I also use French seams! No fraying!!!
I agree with French seams. I also sew down the flange with a straight stitch almost kissing the edge: it looks so professional, and stays flat so you don’t need to iron the pillowcases- just fold right out of the dryer. Nice and smooth.
This is such a pretty fabric line. All bright and cheerful. Love how this turned out and the pillowcase. Question for Jenny - I’ve never made a quilt before. What type of quilt do you suggest for my first quilt? Something easy to sew and put together. I thought I would ask you since you are the Queen of Quilts! Hope you see my question. Thanks so much! 💕☀️🧵
Not Jenny but here is my two cents worth, my mother started us on 9-patch quilt blocks. Three square of three rows, 2 colors per quilt block. Any size square will work. Or an even simpler quilt is just squares of fabric laid out any way that please you and sewn up. I-Spy quilts for small children is a perfect example of this style of quilt. Have fun!
Another beautiful creation! Thanks for the time breakdowns on the different steps. So helpful for referencing again. Was great to see you and Ron making a guest appearance on your friends' UA-cam video while camping in your RV!! Love that you had your featherweight with you!
Wow Jenny, I loved this video! I know many of your followers are experienced sewers but for us that are not it was great you showing us this step by step tutorial. I have learned so much from watching your channel. Thank you for all of your instruction videos. Have a great weekend!
Jenny you looked so pretty today. Thank you for the pattern. I love it. I want sure about block A and B being opposite in the sashing until you showed the layout and then "bang" it made sense.
If you're going to store your quilt in a pillowcase, add a loop or 2 for a tie to close it up. That way whoever grabs it off the shelf won't spill the quilt on the floor. Yes, personal experience. I store my bed linens sets in pillowcases.
I've been 'collecting' quilting books from a second hand book shop lately, and that block, particularly the one that has a white centre, is in one of the books. The pattern is called 'propeller'. I was thinking of doing it for a new grandson. Love how you've done it, and with the slightly alternating block.
Thank you for adding the info about the backing. This is one of the “quilting mysteries” for me-piece the backing or search for a wide backing that will work!
Such a great idea!! I have 2 red white and blue jelly rolls and and some patriotic yardage. Been trying to figure out the perfect pattern for them. THANKYOU!! Reminds me of childhood, we always had pinwheels to blow on and play with along with our flags on patriotic holidays. 💖💜👍
Jenny, I stitched my flange onto the right side of the body of the pillow case 1st with an 1/8" seam. I also made mine with the French seam. My grandkids love these in flannel. We live in cold country so the flannel is cozy & warm.
Hmmm...were these the HSTs your husband helped you make in your beauteous little camper, lol?!! I swear I promise to make this one! Abigail, dreaming of a 5th wheel in the middle oh NH 💙💚💛
I showed my roommates how to make this easy pillowcase when I was at a retreat at MSQC in November 2017!! One of the best vacations of my life!!!❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for being real Jenny! And keeping it simple for the newbies! I once was there and have learned so much even being a experienced piecer and quilter. Love how you presented the items needed in the beginning! Please add the amounts though. I am bad about doing a screen shot so I can quickly refer back. Love the quilt! Going to be a great project to make and donate to kids in need!
Great quilt, and a great pillowcase too! Love the bright and happy fabric, love the clever checkerboard sashing, and that's a pretty tricky pillowcase technique. Nice!
I love this quilt it is so bright and cheery definitely will be added to my 'have to do list!!' :-)))) and the pillowcase is awesome..the way it is stitched together looks like so much fun thx Ginny for the inspiration:-)))
Thank you for this video. I would love for someone to teach how to make pillowcases with one directional Fabrics. They seem to be challenging for me. Natalie???
Hello from Herefordshire in England, Enjoying all your tutorials thank you Jenny, keeping us all going in these times I can’t wait to come and visit MSQC in Hamilton , love to you all!
Thank you SO much for bringing the green fabric requirements screen back! I also like the way you have laid out the tools and fabrics before you start sewing. It's like making an outline before you write a story. I love the quilt and I think I'm going to use extra charms to make it a rectangle. This quilt would look really cute, too, just using block A repeated across the rows to make the quilt look like it has propellers or windmills. Sweet!
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial! Also, I am glad to see the old "Here's what you need" screen back - I find it easier to follow :) Beautiful work as always!
I believe Jenny forgot to say to fold the 2 1/2" wide flange of her pillow case in half, down the full length and iron flat. This encases the raw edges. You can also use 1" to 1&1/2" wide grosgrain or satin ribbon.
I've noticed the "what you'll need" portions of videos lately have been changing. Whoever thought of this on, it's the absolute best. I hope this format is used on ALL videos going forward - It shows the traditional list on the white background for a moment, then Jenny lays out each item so you know exactly what is used where (no more wondering what yardage is border vs background!). Seriously, whoever formatted this one needs a pay on the back, it's perfect.
Love this quilt and I'm so glad you showed us how to make the pillowcase. I will make it bigger by using a layer cake and cutting it in fourths and make two pillowcases for my granddaughter. Love those fabrics.
I made my grandchildren some snowman pillowcases like that in early December, and they are still using them. It’s nice when someone appreciates your work, but I was just thinking that this granny needs to make some for spring and summer! I think it is worth taking the extra few minutes, though, to do a French seam to make it neat and today and to prevent fraying.
I agree Lisa Ann! Who needs sleep! Every Thursday night I am up late so that I can catch the new video!! My husband just laughs and says, "See you in the morning! I just love all the videos and the MSQC family. Trying to work out a trip to visit sometime in May!!! Can not wait!!
Love this one! The colours say “Spring” and it’s a out time! Feels like it’s been a very long winter. I trim my hst’s before pressing them open and if I’ve got more than a few to do it saves so much time. And I think they get a more perfect trim too. 👍💜
(DIANE)OUR Piney Woods Quilters Association use this method to make pillowcases for our local CPS kids and our nursing home residents. WE WILL HAVE A SEW-IN DAY and get quite a number done.
That’s what I’ve known them as too. I prefer to do the French seam just because there are no raw edges anywhere. It’s just 1 little extra step but does make a better finish.
❤️❤️❤️Miss Jenny. Your tutorial today is absolutely adorable This I’d definitely one I am going to make this weekend. Thank You so very mush for all YOUR wonderful patterns. Happy Quilting from Virginia Beach 🌞🌞
Could you please tell me the name of the green colored fabric that is used for the flange in the pillowcase? I want to make sure I'm purchasing that exact color. Thanks.
So beautiful all ur quilting patterns Jenny, m putting dem in use but mi problem s we don't have d materials or fabrics in alredi precut n easy to sew, i have to cut in breakdowns.
I look forward every Friday for the new pattern to come out but here lately more often than not you have to buy a special ruler or tool to complete the project. Though this is a great marketing tool it's not so great for people on a budget who can't afford to buy all the rulers.
Lorretta There is a way to use any square ruler with the 45 degree angle on it to square these blocks.. just line that 45 on your stitch line and slide to desired measurement. I was on a budget always but did find that there are 5 rulers i use almost always and it was worth investing in ..the clearly perfect slotted trimmer, the 2 1/2 × 8 ,the 5×15,the 2 1/2×15 and the 6×24. With those,i can do just about everything. Good luck and happy sewing !
I have never tried making a pillowcase before, but now I've got to try making one. I can't wait to make both the quilt and the pillowcase. Such a great tutorial!
I just love watching you! I have learned so much from you. I made a scrap quilt by watching you. By the way you look so nice since you lost weight. Good for you.
When I look at this quilt it would be beautiful in a child’s bedroom. It so happy , Beth from Duluth , Mn.
This is such a happy looking quilt. Thanks for the instructions
Highlight of Fridays is looking at a new MSQC tutorial. 😎
What a pretty quilt! You look GREAT, Jenny!
Love the fabric and the easy pillowcase!
I use decorative stitching across the flange to hold it down... this helps keep the case looking nice after washing! And I also use French seams! No fraying!!!
That's exactly what I thought, to use a French seam 👍
Oh I like the decorative seam across the flange , great idea !
@@penny9157 I let my grandkids choose which decorative stitch they want, and we work together to complete the project.... it's fun!
That’s such a good idea! I always Press my cases after they are washed to flatten the flange.
I agree with French seams. I also sew down the flange with a straight stitch almost kissing the edge: it looks so professional, and stays flat so you don’t need to iron the pillowcases- just fold right out of the dryer. Nice and smooth.
Love both the quilt and the bonus pillowcase! I had no idea they were so easy to make! Thanks Jenny!
Thank you for this wonderful video. I just wish I had this bundle of fabrics to put together right now.
This is such a pretty fabric line. All bright and cheerful. Love how this turned out and the pillowcase.

11pm time for bed...ooh! Brand new video, who needs sleep anyway?!?
My thought exactly!😂🤣😂
Midnight at my place 🙈
I watched at 3:00 am after sewing in my sewing room for several hours. Thank you, Jenny!
Another beautiful creation! Thanks for the time breakdowns on the different steps. So helpful for referencing again. Was great to see you and Ron making a guest appearance on your friends' UA-cam video while camping in your RV!! Love that you had your featherweight with you!
I like the way you laid out all the tools and fabric first; also showing a finished block in the beginning is a big help.
I thought the same thing. Nice addition to the video
Wow Jenny, I loved this video! I know many of your followers are experienced sewers but for us that are not it was great you showing us this step by step tutorial. I have learned so much from watching your channel. Thank you for all of your instruction videos. Have a great weekend!
I'd love to visit you. I live in London England, which airport would I have to fly into to get to you?
Jenny you looked so pretty today. Thank you for the pattern. I love it. I want sure about block A and B being opposite in the sashing until you showed the layout and then "bang" it made sense.

I do to, my mom taught me that trick. Keeps everything neat and together! Thanks for the tip on how to tie the top!
I love making these pillow cases. I do French seam them because I don't like the raveling. Lovely little quilt I love it! Jenny is the bomb!
Fun, fun, fun : )
Sew, sew, sew : )
I like: pretty side up : )
This is so much fun!!! My imagination has just gone cra-cra!!! Once again Jenny you have made something that looks so hard to make so easy peasy! ❤️
I've been 'collecting' quilting books from a second hand book shop lately, and that block, particularly the one that has a white centre, is in one of the books. The pattern is called 'propeller'.

Love the new way of displaying the requirements for the quilt. Another great project, thanks Jenny.
Jenny, Natalie, Misty and Liz I love you ladies. Jenny I don't think I could sew as fast as you. I love MSQC
This happy fabric was perfect for this quilt. Can't wait to make this one! Thanks, Jenny 😊
Thank you for adding the info about the backing. This is one of the “quilting mysteries” for me-piece the backing or search for a wide backing that will work!
You are incredible as always, Jenny!! I love EVERYTHING that comes from Missouri Star!!!❣❣❣
My favorite pillowcase method. It’s the only one I make.
I love this and I’m thinking patriotic colors, red pinwheels and blue squares!! Thanks have a great weekend!

Very happy looking quilt,. Amazes me just a little change makes the block different. Can't wait to make one
Great quilt! For me, I'll make a separate pinwheel block out of scraps to have on hand to make sure I'm setting it up correctly.
