The 2022 Range Rover Velar is AMAZING!

- 2022 Range Rover Velar review by The Straight Pipes. The Range Rover Velar P400 R-Dynamic HSE is putting down 395 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque from a 3L Turbo Inline 6 cylinder. At $93,050 CAD, would you take it over the Jaguar F-Pace, BMW X5, BMW X6, Mercedes GLE, Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne?

PLS REVIEW THE NEW SEQUIA TRD PRO ,THE FORD TIMBERLINE AND BMW 530i
Speaking of a new car, when is the 2022 WRX video coming out, on fence of R or WRX with the R deliveries so late. Soon I hope 🙏🏼
would you take this over the base macan you reviewed back in January?
Does the Velar come in the hybrid or PHEV variants?
I tried. there is no discount. May be you are just getting the referral bonus or something but there was no change in price with or without link on different systems I checked from. then I called the dealership and they confirmed it. what am I missing? what % discount anyway
so cool to see how far you guys have gone. I've watched since your 5000 sub special.
Yoooooo thanks for sticking with us so long 🙌
I met these guys randomly in a turtle jacks like 3 years ago. Solid reviewers and nice guys in person too.
Ikr ridiculous
what happened to the bald guy?
As an owner of a 2016 Evoque I wanna mention that the car has successfully reached 198'000km!
(goes off road like once a year lol)
I am thinking of buying one next year, but given the amount of issues with the cars they make in North America, I am apprehensive
Only because it has a Ford 2.0t in it
@@brendanchapman9270 it's a landrover ingenium diesel, not the ford unit that was used until 2015 smart head
@@WastingTime1878 they make more problems in america than they do in europe seems like.
Damn, very well done, how's your experience? I'm curious if it's really as bad as people say when it comes to reliability
And that is a big mile you got for 6-7 years considering its a relatively "luxurious" product
I have a 2018 Velar 180 Diesel and it has spent many hours off road and it is capable but the factory tires let it down. No issues with our Velar in 87000KM.
Had one for 3 years ...just come out of it . A beautiful car not a single fault during ownership.
I owned a P300 R Dynamic HSE Velar here in the UK. Stunning to look at. Head turner. It averaged 18mpg though. The rear camera was laggy. The CarPlay barely worked. The speakers crackled. I never went off road. But good for road trips. I loved it but the tech really let it down unfortunately. Although I can’t help but want another. Weird how you feel like that about LR/RR products.
I owned a Jag XE supercharged 6 banger and miss it everyday. Such a fun car to drive. Know what u mean about jag/LR/RR.
It’s just gorgeous, how could you not want another one!?
"Sinful pleasures" you know its not good for you but you want it anyway all that wheelbase no backseat room so Lexus it is
My last car was a Mercedes GLC 300 4Matic. I loved how smooth it handled and some of the features as well. I sold it to get one of my dream cars - a 2018 Velar R-Dynamic SE and I absolutely love it. While there are some features that I wish it had that my Mercedes had and there are some quirks that I'm not the happiest about but it is awesome. I've had it for some time and haven't had any problems out of it knock on wood. My only nagging regret sort of is that I went with the more economical P250 and can't shake the thought that I should've just splurged for the P400 R-Dynamic HSE which I'm contemplating upgrading to now.
Which one do you prefer between the Mercedes and the RR?
@@Danielmartin12z RR Velar hands down.
Just an FYI you can change settings so that the paddles work in normal transmission as well :) great entertaining review as always!
Source: Working for JLR
Oh wow. Weird. Thanks
Lol why that is not default? Still a jrl failure.
@@na_wu because the average consumer could knock it accidentally and not know what it is. You either put the transmission in sport and use the paddles or change the settings so the paddles get enabled by default :)
@@na_wu Someone hates JLR lol.
@@na_wu PSUC3 made a really good 👍 point and explanation to your hater comment. 😃 you read that with pleasure now 😏
89k miles on my 2018 velar and its been flawless!
Any big issues?
@@AhmadKhan-ff2mt Engine computer module replaced at 34k miles, took 1h wait and under warranty. Back passenger door wouldn't open at 44k, took them 30 min to fix under warranty. Break lights got moisture in them at 49k miles, took them 1h to fix under warranty. None of the problems stopped be from driving it while I waited for my scheduled visit, they were just mildly annoying.
There has been a couple of weird software glitches since then but have been solved with unplugging the battery then plugin it back in but mostly absolutely flawless since warranty ran out but I do want to trade it in before 100k miles. I have done every single schedule service on right on time, they inspect everything in the car every time, its expensive, like 500-800$ every 15k miles, but its a nice car and I love it, so its worth it for me!
I'm looking to trade it in for another Velar at 100k or maybe a top range rover.
Have a 2020 rrs and love it. Somehow it’s more satisfying to drive than my previous bmw sedan - better steering weight/feel, better throttle response, and even better suspension tuning. Never would’ve guessed that I’d enjoy driving a 5k pound suv more than a 3800 Pound sedan. Plus the seats are extremely comfortable. Only issue so far is that the infotainment can be slow to boot. No I haven’t really taken it off road - just muddy forest roads. Weirdly my gauge cluster seems less laggy than the one in this velar
Good to see more JLR on the channel love it try to get the disco next time you can also change the paddles to work in drive btw
Funny you mention the slowness of the 8sp ZF. My 2018 F-Type R has it and it's show to shift too. But my 2015 BMW 435ix with the SAME box shifted sooo fast.
Each company tunes it differently. Bmw apparently works very closely with ZF on their version
I hated the ZF 8 speed in previous gen 2018 X5M had to always keep it in manual - it never did the right thing
@@TheStraightPipes see now this makes sense
Again, he said the tuning. I've driven cars like this with a slow transmission and I also have a bmw with the ZF-8 speed that shifts as fast as some dual clutches, in bmw's.....and while they're drivers cars, their 4's can sound like a 6 and etc.
Jaguar Land Rover has a very different tuning protocol, especially with gas guzzlers as many of their products, where the entire company needs to save gas where it can on products it can. Audi's always upshifted too quickly, to save gas. I suspect the same.
Matt farah just tested an fpace svr and was impressed with the shift speeds (same ZF 8 soeed)
We own a Velar P300 and we took it once offroading in the vineyards of South of France, however, it wasn't voluntary offroading but rather cursing around after having missed several turns haha
Was still doable, even tough it felt a little weird (which is quite strange for a SUV)
I leased a Velar P250 R-Dynamic while I lived in Big Bear, CA. Vehicle was amazing during the winter in deep snow. Never needed snow chains, never became stuck anywhere. Was always able to drive up and down roads that were "Snowed Over", the highest was the snow was at front license plate level with ease. I'm sure that's due to the locking center differential.
I've had 3 Range Rover Sports on lease (through work) over the last 8 years and I never found the throttle response and braking to be natural. It feels like there's a delay between what your feet are doing and how the car responds. Jaguar doesn't do that surprisingly.
I driven a MY21 Velar P340 R-dynamic and loved it. A great blend of athleticism and luxury, great comfort from the air suspension. The 3.0L Inline 6 is butter smooth and MPG is surprising.
Land Rover and Jaguar makes some beautiful cars. Too scared to trust long-term reliability once the warranty runs out. It would be a cool series to see previous vehicles you reviewed 3-5 years earlier compare now with some years and mileage on them to others in the same year/mileage/price range. Vehicle prices are so high now and the used market prices are so ridiculous. I would pay more now if it means I can keep a vehicle longer with a reasonable cost of long-term ownership.
"Come on bro... Is this your first day reviewing cars?" 😂😂
Gotta love these two ❤️
I have a friend with a 2019 Velar diesel and it really is awesome. I like it a lot.
that’s one good looking car i must say
I have a P300 - amazing vehicle - a lot of style and excellent comfort. I drive in dynamic mode and the vehicle is very responsive. I have Byron blue with blue interior with Union Jack pattern on the dash and seats. Love it!
Love to see some pictures of your car somehow, interior sounds awesome.
This baby seat peace as part of the review is incredible! As a guy who loves cars this is what I want to know about the most! Just amazing!!!!
My dad has an LR4 and we do all sorts of fun stuff. We tow all the time and in the summer we use it on our ranch. We off-road all the time. Once we got stuck in snow and once we did the broken arrow trail in Arizona. All we had was all terrain tires everything else is stock.
Regarding baby seat (2:40), I think the uppababy mesa adapter needs to be adjusted to flatter setting (gray button) to the point where is even with car’s seat surface. Other child seats allow you to adjust the angle.
Very good video guys as always.. Just wanted to point out that in this video, we didn't listen from the outside and I miss the box test 😬
Little correction: the paddles should work by settings, you can choose it is functioning during D mode or you needa switch to S mode manually first
There is a setting in the infotainment to allow the paddles to work at all times instead of just sport mode, same option in the Evoque as well.
for the paddles not working in "drive", that's just a setting in the menu options on the steering wheel
*Safe to say this is the first range I've actually seen and thought I'd actually want that* 😍
Our friends are big JLR fans, but they also have many cars, they don't actually expect their Range Rovers to be reliable enough to daily. I think if you set your expectations similarly and have the money, have at it.
A lot of us don’t have that kinda money so reliability is a big deal
@@JDMSwervo2001 Yeah this is one of cars that's really only suited for rich people. I think it's a great purchase for those competent enough to understand its shortcomings and be realistic with their expectations.
90,000 kms on my 2017 Disco Sport HSE diesel
Fantastic vehicle
👍👍
I have a RR evoque coupe. I live in the country area in Michigan It goes on bad dirt roads when they are doing construction and I drive around my property which is a farm but I don't grow anything. it's never let me down in the 4 years I owned it I have 5 vehicles I don't want to drive anything but the Evoque. keep up the great work.
Bought my murdered black velar 2 weeks ago 😇 wanna keep it with me
For my whole life, so not gonna drive it rough.
I really
Love the outer part specially the slope
As we go back .
I have the 2021 - no laggy cluster. Everything is just smooth. AND it has 360 camera.
Im watching you guys wayback 2018 from the Philippines 🇵🇭 and now I’m also here in Canada 🇨🇦!!
My wife has a 2019 p380 R-Dynamic HSE and its been fairly reliable so far. But no, no offroading. It's a comfortable luxury cruiser SUV more than it is an off road jeep. As a side note, love your guys' reviews. I purchased a 22 Supra 3.0 premium after watching your reviews and never been happier!
Awesome
Thanks for showing the power and torque figures in Metric as well, many other channels don't do that.
You really provide all the information and your presentation is really great
The paddles not working on drive and only in sport is an option you can change on modern Jaguars and Rovers.
Hate when reviewers make claims like this without looking through the simple menu.
Best looking suv on the road to this day.
Editing is flawless. Would love to learn these methods TSP!
guys i know it's difficult but i would love your perspective on a bentley continental gt
We will try
They haven't reviewed a Bentley yet, so I am hoping to see one on the channel too.
@@TheStraightPipes thanks a lot
Love everything about this SUV, but the reliability issues many mention scare me.
Absolutely love the look of this vehicle. Had this on my must have to buy list but it's just soooo small.
The price is insane once you add on options and the back seat is basically unusable.
The infotainment system was horrible....
The sales rep told me air suspension wasn't available unless I got an autobiography edition which was a lie. Just a horrible dealer experience as well
You had the same experience as I, not worth it. Just looks cool driving down the road, Land Rover needs new management or owners.
My mom owns one its a peach to drive one and the best looking suv
Air suspension is only available on v6 models, but yeah for the price I’ll be getting a sport next.
@@jaretmccomas9484 you can get a V6 that's not all the way up to the autobiography trim though. Just poor sales experience all the way around he didn't know his products
Very weird that it didn’t get the full facelift tech treatment that the F-Pace got. This is sooo laggy like you said where the facelift F-Pace is instant by comparison.
Got the base model with like one option or two, my S.O. likes it, she has things she doesn't like, like the visits not blocking the sun for her but I haven't had the issue when I drive it and haven't had any real bugs. Her rear hatch does rub on the bottom plastic for some reason, we need to take it but it's not affecting how it drives so it's not priority currently
I love how you schedule all the SUV & Crossover reviews during the crappy winter months ;-)
U guys really enjoy every bit of it and we get lucky ☺️
That all black one looks dope
longtime viewer first time subscriber. Great review by the way. I need help deciding between the Velar, GLE 53 Coupe or the X6 M Sport. What are y’all feeling?
Mercedesssss
That's actually tough. Velar looks the most luxurious. X6 sportiest. GLE in between
Gle 53
@@TheStraightPipes Thanks...love the RR but worried about quality issues down the line.
It is also amazing that after a couple of months driving it, you have to bring it back to the shop cus of reliability issues
idk how many times ive put the notification bell on this channel and it never alerts me, youtube hates launches
I don't understand how a car that expensive can fail the visor test. Whyyyyyyyyyyy.
Europeans don’t do telescoping visors.
Used off-road quite a lot. Not extreme off but still. Very capable car off-road.
P.s. you can turn-on paddles in D in settings. It is grandma feature to block them. ;)
My god-father had an LR4, a Range Rover and now currently in a Velar. He only took the LR4 off-roading. The Velar is “too new” but he may probably do it IF he does keep it for a long time
I’m not sure about all the mechanics of the vehicle you discuss…I’d have to drive it. But I do know looks…and this SUV is pretty. I love the looks inside and out.
We own a 2017 evoque, have never taken it off road, but in true LR fashion there's tape around the windshield because the seals are leaking 👌🏼
Funny you mention that. My 2015 Evoque’s windshield seal slipped out of the gap between the windshield and pillar last week. Just popped it back in. I wonder if it’ll start leaking now
Exterior and interior design-wise, one of my favourite, maybe just behind Volvos.
I love the velar.❤
Wanted to comment because I do have Range Rover and drive it off road here in Brazil. In my case it's an Evoque, bit I have crossed a river with it, have driven on very slippery mud, and on very soft sand on the beach. So they look cool, and they are very capable off-road. They won't be as capable as a defender, but Land Rover does know what they are doing.
Good job for making the best review.
Could you do a giveaway any time soon
Thank you! Stay tuned 😉
That was a great review. I’m looking at a Velar but with the 4 cylinder. What do you think?
Please, when you quote the power and torque could you include the weight as well?
Land Rovers are absolutely gorgeous.
The new Range Rover is even nicer. The SV with the Signature Suite is the nicest SUV on sale imo
@@nelsonthomas5743 couldn't agree more!
JLR rarely fails of making good car, but if only they put a slight care abt reliability, they could be one of the best in the class
Also, the engine is kinda dissapointing, rated more powerful than the old SC V6, but it's actually slower, which is funny, since every German rated with lower hp can go as fast
That is true, one of the few 'unreliable' brands that actually *are* unreliable. It's a shame cus I love their cars overall. As others have said tho, their *main* clientele aren't regular people trying to act rich, but actual rich people who can afford to have something like this and not care too much about reliability. I would still go for a Genesis personally.
@@Dank-One same here, seeing how far Genesis have become, while still have a good reliability, i would not hesitate choosing Genesis over the German competitor or even any european competitors, heck it's better looking and to drive than most German's
@@ezrapardede1921 Yup I agree, Genesis definitely my favourite luxury brand, but I've always had a soft spot for Hyundai's so no surprise there :-D
I feel like the Germans' offerings are very decent though. Not as reliable as a Genesis or Lexus but definitely more so than Land Rover and they are still super luxurious. I honestly feel like every luxury brand has something to offer, even if some aren't as practical as others. :-)
They have one of the worst quality check department...that's the reason
Have had an evoque for 5 years with 120,000km and so far no issues at all

It's so true, though😂😂🔥
no leg room in a suv is just a big no. Not to mention its going to spend more time in a shop than being actually driven by the owner.
Yeah, I'd much rather lease instead of buying one of these money pits. At least it can then break under warranty lol.
Selling my Defender today cuz of the amazing appreciation. I only had it for 16k miles and 8 1/2 miles and no real problems. Best car I’ve ever owned. The whole unreliability thing is uncalled for.
@@Le_Royaliste_Perlino lol it better be reliable it’s only been 16k miles sTfU
@@JDMSwervo2001 I’ve had cars be a lot less reliable in way less mileage ding bat.
@@Le_Royaliste_Perlino It's blown out of proportion that's for sure. My mates haven't had much trouble with theirs' either but I believe it's still an issue in other cases.
Top notch video as usual. One note: the paddles do work in regular D mode, you just need to go into settings and change that.
No recently built 2022 Velars have 360 cameras due to the chip shortage. And there is a setting in the dash that’s let you us paddles in drive.
Your intro music choices are sick💯
looks sleek af. better than most of its competition.
We need you to review the Velar SV
The centre armrest moves forward that is why there is a third cup holder. You have to own one not just play in one to know… VELAR OWNER
Same exact body style LRRR doesn't change but every 9-10 years thats why high end luxury don't change only different gear shifter
the baby seat base can adjust with that grey button on top
The car with no haters...
I honestly thought the Velar was going to bomb when it came out, but the people have spoken. They want more Range Rover crossovers.
This one was hot for a good min, it even had a V8 for a brief moment. Now? Defender, and the new Range Rover and upcoming Range Rover Sport are the ones to have if you can swing it.
A car seat should sit properly on the seat of the car. If it doesn’t then it’s the wrong car for you or you need to find a car seat that fits that car.
Re: Uppababy mesa car seat - doesn’t have the best angle in many cars, had to wedge a towel in it to get angle better in other cars too
I had to wedge a small towel in my Raptor. But velar was like towels on towels. Kinda sketch
I want one for the looks, but my gawd the lag on those screens. It was painful to watch.
Do they not test these things before putting them into production?
This car needs a software upgrade to make it less laggy
Yuri's hoodies are 🔥🔥🔥!

You can change the paddles to work on d and s or just s. In the menu on the cluster.
You can change the paddle shift issue in the menu
If a screen is going to be that laggy, it would be better to have a quick transition. Don’t try and do a fancy blend and swipe.
"Would you like a massage?"
Pulls over and opens tailgate.
@3:00 still using the ol' ford parts bin window switch for the seat recline I see...
Those sensors in the front grill need to change. In Canadian winters all the safety features go off line. Which renders those features useless!
Had a Range Rover and Disco neither seen off payment, I used my R50 Pathfinder (2002) for that. The LR’s we baby carriers lol
For the money, much better options out there for a daily luxury SUV. Probably won't look as good, but I bet you almost all others are more reliable and easier to live with day to day. Good looking, no doubt, per usual RR.
Not really, not besides the Q5. The Q7 and X5 are both bigger, but the X5 is way cramped inside and the back seats dont even compare. The GLE is less comfortable to sit in and will break as often. It's a very good offering.
@@kamsa1243 Ya but at that money, you are in the range of the larger luxury suvs. All Range rovers are notorious for being one of, it not the most unreliable cars on the road. At $73k it's not where I would spend my money personally. I'd go lexus/gensis/benz/audi, even porsche. Again, the velar is one of the best looking of all the options in this category, tho.
@@joeschmoe303 The older generations are yes. I dont know if you realize Range Rover is above Benz and Audi in SUV luxury, and that shows in the seat comfort in both. The car I'd pick over the Velar would be a GLE, but it is taller and larger overall. Porsche are great at everything they do, no point in comparing lol.
The experience at dearlership and I am speaking about Toronto ones, was basically forgetable. The Car IS pricey. But, man does this look good and how! It drives well. Did a cross country trip and back, comfortably.
I have a limited production Velar SVAUTOBIOGRAPHY with the 5.0L v8 from the RR Sport SVR that turns things up to 11. 😎
My wife watched this video and now she wants one! Thanks for the review but I hope it’s got better chips now.

Maybe I missed the memo, but I thought you guys were releasing videos only on Saturdays and Sundays? Anyhow, I'm seeing a lot more Range Rover Evoques and Velars around town these days. Makes you wonder what the future of the Jaguar brand will be... I hope they stick around, but they need their non-SUV products to be a bit more desirable and well-rounded in order to be competitive.
My grandma owns a 2018 Velar. Beautiful car. Very comfortable.....
But the reliabilty is a complete joke. It stays in the shop with some light issue or engine coolant and the list goes on. It once told her she couldnt drive past 60 until it was fixed.
Beautiful car.....but make sure you lease it.
