    metric sizes are: 40cm circular needle and size 8.5mm if that’s of help to anyone. I think the pattern is great.

    I am using size US 13, 16” circular needles. I believe these might be ChiaoGoo brand. I think as a beginner it is nice to use wood as it isn’t as slippery as metal. Hope that helps!

    Thanks for quick response ! 😀 Yes, I had accidentally flipped wrong side out. I reversed to right side facing out & continued knitting..and it turned out beautiful! 😀 So excited to knit my very first hat! 😀 Thanks again!!!

    Could I cast on 45 stitches instead to make it slightly larger? Or does it have to be a specific odd number?

    Fantastic video. So clear and easy to follow. I'm a fairly experienced knitter but was looking for a video for a friend who wants to knit her first hat in the round! where is the stunning pom pom from?

    Hello! What a wonderful tutorial, thank you! Is this pattern sized for an adult? I want to knit the hat for a man, who is quite large and was wondering what the final dimensions are so I can adjust for his measurements. Thank you!!!

    • @knittingwhimsy
      @knittingwhimsy  3 роки тому +2

      So glad you like! The hat is pretty generously sized - I think it would work for a large head. If you wanted to you could add 4 stitches - but my guess is that would be too big - it’s pretty stretchy. It is also very easy to undo and reknit if you aren’t happy with the size. I hope it works for you & your man!!

    Can I make this with size 10 needles?

    • @knittingwhimsy
      @knittingwhimsy  11 місяців тому +1

      You can try - the material will be denser and the hat will be smaller - so you might need to adjust and add a few more stitches to your round. If you are using this yarn I would recommend you go ahead and get the larger needles. They will come in handy for lots of things!! For example I am making Christmas stockings now - very similar to knitting a hat! Happy knitting!!

    Hi again, sorry for all the questions lol. How do you wind your yarn into that type of ball?

    • @knittingwhimsy
      @knittingwhimsy  2 роки тому +1

      You need a swift and a ball winder. They are available at most knitting stores, Amazon - or you can ask a knitting store to wind for you!

    Is it #6 yarn? I wanted to use thick and quick.

    • @knittingwhimsy
      @knittingwhimsy  3 роки тому +1

      I am using Malibrigo Rasta. You could definitely use #6 yarn - if you do I would follow their directions for a hat & use size needles they recommend. Most hat patterns are quite similar - you could still use my tutorial for help.

    How do I achieve the stockinette stitch through the hat when I’m just doing the knit stitch? I’m just getting the garter stitch.

    • @knittingwhimsy
      @knittingwhimsy  3 роки тому

      Since you are knitting in the round, when you knit all knit stitches you get stockinette. Looks smooth on front- bumpy on back. If you knit every round - you won’t get garter stitch. Let me know if that makes sense - or if I am misunderstanding what you are doing.

    • @caleahmarie365
      @caleahmarie365 3 роки тому

      That makes sense. I’m not sure what happened but only the first row stayed joined....... so basically when I finished I had the fist row attached and then the entire back was open. I had 36inch circular needles rather than 16 inch so I don’t know if that made a difference.

    • @knittingwhimsy
      @knittingwhimsy  3 роки тому

      @@caleahmarie365 aaah - you cannot knit this hat with 36” circulars (unless you are doing the Magic Loop technique). You really do need the 16” circulars. If you desperately want to knit and only have 36” needles - you could make a cowl!!

    • @caleahmarie365
      @caleahmarie365 3 роки тому

      @@knittingwhimsy the hat looked cute from the front 😂 but the back I’ll need to seem. I’m going to order some 16” and try again. After I join at the beginning and cast off that one stitch, do I need to do anything else special as I go or should it work itself staying together?

    After minute 4, I count the stitches and they are 54?!?! It's my first time with circular needles, so I am not even sure how to go back....

    • @knittingwhimsy
      @knittingwhimsy  3 роки тому +2

      That is always disappointing!! You have a few options -
      You can ‘frog’ back to a point where you have the correct number of stitches. There is a knitting whimsy video on frogging - not for circular needles, but the process is very similar. It is easy to do with chunky yarn because they loops tend to keep their shape.
      Or you can throw in 4 evenly spaced ‘knit two togethers’ to get your stitch count back to 50.
      Or you can rip the whole thing out - start over and consider it extra practice and learning to make the perfect hat! Plus you get to knit more - consider it an added bonus of therapeutic knitting time!!
      Whatever you do - I hope you enjoy your knitting experience and your hat!!
