@@ChromosomeSyndicate I'm talking about learning the layered menus, the routing. Granted, I made that comment from memory. At the time I owned a Juno 106 which was hands on and far easier to use. Of course, few things were worse than a DX7. Even using the VST Dexed, which stock sounds are truly authentic, is complicated. My FA06 was some getting used to, but ended up one of my best synths and still own and use it. I don't use any stock sounds from the FA06.
i agree with your title! i actually just uploaded my first matrix 1000 video 2 hours ago! and your video just came in my feed as i'm subscribed. Nice video!
Yes indeed! In fact, I had two of them (one with a slight amount of the infamous transformer hum, and one with a later design without the hum). I loved their sound! (hey if they were good enough for the late, great Lyle Mays to take many tours, they must have been excellent!) Unfortunately, because of many practical issues, I decided to sell all my vintage & modern synths, and transitioned to a vst rig...but that has nothing to do with the quality of the Matrix-1000!
Thanks for your feedback. You can also make good music with VST. There is no doubt about that. With the small OBs you get a lot of sounds in a small package.
Never seen one of these before, what year did this come out, sounds amazing. A great little box of tricks, must be a rare little thing. Sounds like it was used a lot of tv production? Love it.
I had one and loved the rich sounds it produced but there were a lot of quirks when it came to midi and patch memory. Maybe I just had a bad unit lol..
Pain in da ass finding that patch you liked and midi program change don't work properly from a sequencer, defaults to patch one even with it switched off wtf
This is on my "I should definitely check this out but I'm not quite prepared to pay over €1000 for a 6 voice synth" list. And even though there's one for sale right now for €950, it's still a substantial amount. And perhaps I should use my existing gear a bit better before buying more. Still, I should definitely check this out.
compared to other vintage 6 voice analog synths that come to mind it is a very good price and more powerful than most. i just recently got one, my first oberheim and i love the sound...
@@silverlight2004db There's a whole bunch of six voice DCO synths: Matrix-6R/1000 (I'm primarily interested in rack synths), Roland MKS-50, Korg EX-8000 (8 voice), Kawai K3M, Ensoniq ESQ-M, Cheetah MS6, and I'm probably forgetting a couple. Between these, there are differences in specs, character, availability, and above all price. Between these, it's going to be tough to choose a favourite, or several favourites.

This is overrated for me. Still the champs(realest) are Oberheim ob-xa & Yamaha DX7
That filtered sweeping sound at 1:48 is one of my favorite Oberheim sounds
A wonderful filter charactic.
Thank you Jose.
Yes, I really like that one. 😊
I had the Matrix 6, the most complex synth I ever had but a joy to explore with. Every unique sound I ever did in the 90's came from that beast
Very cool.
Thank you
Complex ? A Matrix 6 ?

have fun!
Hey Silverlight2004db, I just enjoyed your video just before watching this one. Double treat for me today.
Ein Sound um die Welt zu verträumen ❤
Ich mag die kleine Kiste. Sehr vielseitig und toller Klang.
Great synth
yes.
Thank you
Yessss!
It has THE sound!
Thank you 🙌
@@retrosound72 I'm comparing my very old Matrix 1000 (the black one) with my very new OB-X8... guess who has a very fat sound? 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
@@marcoballa The X8 sounds fatter yes. But the M1000 is more versatile.
@@retrosound72 well, I was trying to say that the Matrix 1000 is fat 🙂
That sound in the beginning is devilishly good!
Thank you,🔥
Thank you for the video
Thank you for watching 👍

i will never get rid of my matrix-1000 and matrix-6
so fun to program expressive musical patches for them.
Agree with you 🙌
El logotipo de oberheim me fascina, saludos desde 🇲🇽❤

Yet another brilliant demonstration👍👍👍
Thank you so much 🙌
Классный синт!
Спасибо большое Павел.

@derek I still have mine as well, were you able to get rid of the transformer hum or did you just live with it?
@@mixc8how does the gate resolvs this problem?

A complete analog Oberheim synth in a box. But with great sounds.
What is this beautiful chord progression you’re playing in this video? Is it your own composition or is it from someone else’s work? It’s so haunting.
@@nepta00 only a demo improvisation
I came through this video because in the “Stochastic” vinyl of Carbon based lifeforms they say this is used in the track “Stókhos”
But I don't recognise it.
🙌🎹
But apart from that it still sounds amazing!
I got mine at a church yard sale for $5 along with some other rack synths
God bless you .
Cheetah MS6, the “acid brother” is underrated as well!
🙌
I go for the Matrix 6 instead, but this is a cool synth to. $10 dlls is a good price thanks 😊
The M6 is great too.
Thank you for watching!

😅🙌 thank you for your time
There are newer firmwares that fix that.
the patch at 5:54 is excellent! very seventies.
Thank you 🙌
PWM is possible ? What about the tauntek 1.20?
Yes.👍
Some of this sound like He-Man music. I wonder if they used the Matrix
He-Man and the Battle Cat. :)
Pain in da ass finding that patch you liked and midi program change don't work properly from a sequencer, defaults to patch one even with it switched off wtf
MIDI madness
Where are the controls on this thing? Does it purely work via external midi control?
With external HW programmer like Stereoping or with different software editor.
I use a JL Cooper Fadermaster for mine + Novation+ CTrl -gets all the parameters
