25K Portugal Quinta - Garden update and self levelling the kitchen floor

Hello and welcome to Portugal on a shoestring. We are Brian and Diane and in 2023 we bought a 120 year old abandoned property in central Portugal. Join us as we begin a new life, renovating our house and managing our land on a shoestring budget. Watch as we learn new skills, make mistakes and discover our new home.
We welcome any and all questions and suggestions. One thing that we found difficult in our preparations for moving to Portugal was finding our about costs and processes, so we would like to be as open as possible and will try to answer your questions as honestly and openly as possible.
In this week's episode I use self levelling compound to prepare the kitchen floor for tiling and Diane gives an update on our plans for the garden and the mountain of work that we need to climb to get it how we want it.

add the mixture to the water slowly stirring all the while always having it in liquid state. A good stir and there should never be lumps, slowly does it. Anyways good luck with the project and may all your Brambles be little ones.

Thanks for that, I ended up on the last few bags pouring a third of a bag at a time into the bucket and that made it a lot easier. Even little brambles are evil !! 😂

Hi, the land is approximately 1500 square metres and the house is another 250 square metres 🙂

Great job with the self levelling. We have a house in Figueros dos Vinhos area, and come up every now and then. We also need to do self leveling. How much were the sika primer and the sacks?

Thanks, the primer was about €20 I think. The self leveling compound was on offer at Leroy Merlin at the time at €15.95 per sack. 10 sacks covered approximately 15 square metres at an average of around 10mm thickness. If you only need a smaller depth then you can use a slightly cheaper product. The stuff we used can cover up to 50mm depth and is harder to use as it is more viscous.

It has helped but not stopped them altogether, I think we need a lot more 😂

Hi, I will do a quick walk around the boundary in this weekend's video but as a quick guide, it runs along the stone wall at the back of the garden, along the stream and then around the house, total of about 1450 square metres, plus the house covers approximately 250square metres🙂
