    Had a pop at this last year and the results were ridiculous, so thank you.
    1st, 2nd and 3rd in my local show and then chopped up, blanched and frozen and were still lovely 3 months later.

    Hi Dan. Love how you do the carrots in the boxes. Picked up some polystyrene boxes from my local Aquarium last year and grew some carrots in them which I put on top of my shed roof..Bang on 👍 Watch those ribs with all that pulling good buddy Haha.     Cracking video, I did have trouble with the sharp sand keep falling out of the tube so incorporated roughly 40% builders sand and attached a reducer from 68 to 50mm, hand over the end to cause a vacuum, worked perfectly. Thanks for taking the time to pass on your knowledge.

    At the end of the season what do you do with the sand, do you replace it or reuse it next year?

      Sweet Candle - I grew them too last year and they are a lovely eating carrot - added bonus, they'll sit in the ground well past Christmas

    how do you clear the compost from the hole after & do you reuse it ?

      You can use the corer again to take the compost out and then redig the sand and use it time after time.Cheers,Dan

    Really interesting video. Do you refill planter with sharp sand each year. What do you do with the sharp sand at the end of the season ?

      I remove as much compost from the sand as I can and reuse it year after year.

      I don't usually use any.
      Carrots aren't big feeders and can get huge with little or no added fertiliser.

    What do you do end of season as presumably you can’t reuse sand as there will be compost mixed in with it?

    I am looking to try this next year but what do you do with the sand after?
    Is there a way to re use it or is it a one time only?

      Just remove as much compost from the holes after harvest and then reuse the sand year after year.

    Is it necessary to have the box above the ground level? Can I dig a cube hole in ground and put sand there?

    May I ask do you core last years holes filled with compost out so that once all the carrots have been pulled and fill the bores back up with sand ready for the next year?

    Eyup Dan. I've got a very small garden with a six to ten foot brick wall all the way around and the carrot flies can't get out or don't want to. My raised bed is two feet tall and every time I grow carrots they are knackered by carrot fly. Darwin would be proud. Wind? Sithi after! Dave

      Yeah 2ft isn't guaranteed but may keep the lazy ones out.
      You need to try some enviromesh me thinks.

      Actually they are the sweetest carrot I have ever tasted even when they grow to a big size.

      Yes he sowed them in buckets, waited till they grew a little, picked off weaker ones before transplanting the strongest into the raised bed.

    Do you put a bottom on those boxes or is it in contact with the ground? I’m gonna have a go at this, just need to find some wood 👍

      There is no bottom to the box.
      Mine is sat on a weed membrane but if you sit it on a soil bed you'll get even bigger carrots as the tap roots grow into the soil.
