Day 7 of the EBC Trek and it's another acclimitisation day, this time in Dingboche at 4,400m elevation. Similar to our extra acclimitisation day in Pengboche, we weren't going to sit around all day. Instead, we headed up to the viewpoint above Dingboche, known as Nangkartsang Peak which sits at around 5,100m elevation.
It's a fiarly relentless and reasonably steep climb up and out of Dingboche, over multiple false summits. Initially I though that it would be crowded at the top because a lot of people use Dingboche as a base for their acclimitisation (and there were quite a few people hiking up). However, most people stopped halfway instead of climbing all the way up to the viewpoint so whilst there were 4 other people up there by the time we arrived, they made their way down and we had it all to ourselves.
It was notably harder to breath as we climbed higher and it was probably the hardest climb of the everest base camp trek thus far. It was definitely worth it though. From Nangkartsang you get incredible views not only of the valley that you've climbed as it stretches upwards towards Lhotse and Island Peak, but also of the fork in the valley that you'll be following for the next few days up past Dughla to Lobuche and beyond.
Whilst Ama Dablam had been dominating the views for the last few days, Tobuche and Cholatse now came into their own, and the views of these to mountains are incredible from Dingboche viewpoint.
We also say a couple of large vultures circling around the peak (within 50-100m of us) but unfortunately I didn't have time to get my camera out to catch it.
Much like everything on the EBC trek, it's worth doing. It's the best view that we had to date, by quite a stretch, and that's saying something considering the views from Everest View Hotel and Ama Dablam basecamp.
It is at around 5,100m so you're starting to get pretty high. I didn't feel great at the top but as I made my way back down, I started to feel better pretty quickly. Hoping that the 'climb high, sleep low' thoery works out!

@Mary Abreu - yeah somewhat literally breathtaking! The frozen lake in the next two videos was my favourite though, so Dingboche viewpoint lost its number one position pretty quickly (as good as it was).
